Nadal was the last teenager to win a GS. He is also one of only 2 players to win a slam in his teens, 20s and 30s in the Open Era.
They don't make them like Nadal anymore. So when will we see the next teenage GS champion?

Impossible to predict, because almost by definition it means a player improves dramatically.

But Shapo might.

Borg, Wilander, Becker, Edberg, Chang, Sampras, and Nadal are the only ones to win a slam as teenagers (Open Era).

It was more probable in the 70s and 80s. In last 28 years, Nadal is the only one to do it.

After Seabastián Nadal decides to fool around with Ana María one more time
Or Rafael with Xisca.
Also, we don't know what Toni is upto - coaching his kids in the academy. I heard his younger son was a decent player.

That's a pretty long list, actually. But I think what's notable is that with the exceptions of Borg and Nadal, all the others were in an 8 yr period, 82-90. Which was also the period of racket transition.

It's notable that 4 of these 7 wins came at the French Open.
Becker (Wimbledon), Edberg (AO), and Sampras (USO) are the exceptions.

Cool stat, by any chance do you know who the other one that accomplished feat was?

If he did not choke against Busta last year, who know?

He lost in the RO 16 in straight sets, all tie breakers so not really close. I think it's very hard for teenagers now. Not many play ATP level before 18, and the best only play a few masters at that age. When they're 19 they move up the rankings to a competitive seeding, then at 20 can compete for slams. It takes a real prodigy to bring all that forward a year and win a slam at 19 rather than 20.

Let the Nadal, Federer and Djokovic retire. Also Murray. There will be a teenage Slam winner again once these scary monsters leave the professional tour.

It'll happen the next time there's a major innovation in racquet or string technology. Then the teenagers will take to it faster than the established players, giving them a shot.

Fast courts again, maybe? A young big server would have a shot.

Remember that he broke Busta first and was serving for the set in the 1st set. Had he won then the match would be completely different.

Fair enough...I don't remember it, had to look up the result and on paper it doesn't look particularly close. The fact he lost his serve at an important time there suggests he wasn't quite ready. I think his real chance comes next year. 12 months working up the rankings then a softer draw when he's a better player. From where he is now it's likely to be 5 hard matches from round 3 on. That's a hard way to do it.

Think if Shapo had Zverev's Jez Green or better additions to his team he would be doing much better now

I don’t think Shapo will win a slam in his teens but I’m fairly confident he’ll win more slams than ya boi.
Don't be so sure my friend.
