Nick Kyrgios Is Now The Favorite In His Quarter Of The Draw

The Thiem Quarter has been ravaged by upsets today. Thiem? Gone. Tsitsipas? Gone. Bautista Agut? Gone. Edmund? Gone.

Looking at the draw, Kyrgios is the one to beat. I'm looking at the guys in that section: Rublev, Simon, Monfils, Berretini, the FAA/Shapo winner. This might be his best opportunity to get to a slam SF in the foreseeable future.

The odds haven't updated, because we still have 1st round matches in the section to play. I'm projecting a little bit. Knowing Nick, he could go out there and get bounced by Steve Johnson tonight because his head isn't right. However, I would install Kyrgios as the favorite in the Thiem Quarter with a victory over Steve Johnson. I believe the oddsmakers will agree with me.

The path for Kyrgios is clear, he just has to take advantage of it. Stay tuned.

He could lose tonight easily. Stevie plays the top guys pretty close. Nick will get pissed with the NewYorkers constantly making noise.

Ya, made the same prediction a while ago. There's another thread here but barely anyone answered!
Kyrgios has a strong advantage in his placement in the Draw, Predicting Kyrgios will get to the 4th Round which earns $280,000(!!) UNLESS of course Kyrgios goes mental and blows it.

If kyrgios can get his act together from ball 1 and i.e. against Johnson from start then I think he could win this tournament or atleast go deep as in my opinion courts are playing at a good speed and with his serve and ground game he can blow anyone off court if he is tuned in but off course all this could mean nothing if kyrgios has those mental collapses which would eliminate him against anyone at anystage anyway.

And, as always the match I want to watch is preceded by a three-set WTA marathon. Two Belarus women wearing identical Nike kits except for Azashrieka’s arm sleeves.

And it all means nothing at all because we know they'll be served pastries by Serena.

He definitely has a golden opportunity reach a slam semi. The whole quarter is wide open now.

This should make his inevitable implosion even more humiliating and prompt him to get serious in the off season and prepare for 2020 with a real coach. Diego gonna save that half of the draw.

smh...an almost deserted Ashe stadium for a 1R WTA match featuring the USO’17 champion and the biggest popcorn selling ATP player is playing Armstrong while ESPN stays on the upset of Stephens until the bitter end to bless us with Evert/Fowler commentary.

Yes, and what is the purpose of the arm sleeves? To protect her muscles - something like KT tape?

Updated Odds To Win Thiem's Quarter via 5Dimes:

Kyrgios +225
Shapovalov +350
Monfils +500
Rublev +600
Berrettini +1200

I was right that Kyrgios would be the favorite, but I thought Monfils would be #2. They actually have Shapovalov as the 2nd favorite in the quarter.

Ultimate Statistics has Monfils as a favorite, but it's like 32% to 30% over Kyrgios. Distant 3rd and 4th and 5th.

Kygrios has a STRONG chance to get to the SF. Perhaps even the final.

Imagine a Kygrios vs Djokovic final in NYC. That would be a cracker.

Nick’s matches for sure is like watching a soap opera! Lots of drama, mood changes - a laugh or two, follow by out right rage and then suspense as the climax to everything! o_O

Kyrgios in a major final? :-D

He will quit or tank in a match before that.

Or just as likely - spit at the empire, scream at the crowd, have point penalties.
And STILL beat Djokovic in the UsOpen final.

Imagine what great news that would be for tennis. The bad guy wins a slam. OMG.
That's the kind of excitement we need.

No didn't miss that and followed the story ~ why do you think not? Also, it was plastered all over the news and on every network.

I misread your post. I thought you were saying you had never seen a player spit on the courts. But you meant you hadn't seen one before Kyrgios, lol. I guess he might the first player to do many things on the tennis court, most of which are things very few people want to see.

Maybe ya ALSO missed the Key Words there: "SO MUCH", as in "Never EVER Before saw a player SPIT SO MUCH on the courts".

Isn't there some kinda rule against SPITTING on the courts?!!? Kyrgios's goop is gonna get all over the balls, shoes, etc, DISGUSTING!!

Well, glad you're all still here. 18 sets to go. Can Nick win this US Open? F yes. He held together great last night. Worried that an 11:10p local start time would lead to tennis' version of hooliganism. On deck. Hoang.

Brought a big smile on my face and brightened up my day just reading this and imaging it :-D

I would be highly surprised (and impressed) if Kyrgios gets to the quarterfinals. In slams, the guy simply has not been able to get past his own demons and focus enough over two weeks.

He has problems enough holding it together for one week. Let alone two -- and in best-of-five matches.

Well, last night Kyrgios already started going postal ~ only gonna get worse!

PS >>> SPITTING all over the courts should be banned!! (n)
