This will translate to slams eventually too. Federer too wasn't that great outside the slams in 2008-2009, but was still reliable in the slams themselves until AO 2010. After that, his poor performances appeared in the slams too.

Novak won't be able to rely on his slam aura forever. These losses in masters and WTF will happen in the slams too sooner or later.

This ain't W final, my friend.

I guarantee you Novak would have played differently if that was the case today.
Novak didn't play that well at Wimbledon. Just a bit better than he played today probably. Federer just played a great two sets today. Outstanding serving. Djokovic won that Wimbledon Final having only broken Federer once in the 5th set.

Edit: Correction, I believe he also broke once in the 4th
Edit2: Correction thanks to @mike danny, it was 3 times.

But he was steady enough on serve to get it the TBs... And then he engaged lockdown mode - 0 UEs in those 3 TBs made the difference in the end

Djokovic broke Fed 3 times total, once in the 4th and twice in the 5th

Yeah he was great in the second and third tiebreaker. Federer kind of blew the first one where they were both playing great through like 8 points. That loss will forever sting.

Djokovic broke Federer 3 times in the Wimb final. Once in the 4th, twice in the 5th.

Yes, you are correct. Looks like I was way off with initially saying "once". I forgot about the break back in the 4th and the moment that shall not be named.

he literally just won the last masters 1000. lol

Paris is probably the weakest 1000 of all.

Novak layed an egg nearly all year in 1000 masters, and that's why he's just lost his nr 1 ranking.
The consequences of his Shanghai defeat to Tsitsipas was catastrophic as we learned afterwards.

So much for his recent declarations of wanting all the records.

And so much for Djokovic's fans' often said declaration that Djokovic will hold all the records. The drop in BO3 during the fall (where he typically ruled) in 2016 cost him a YE#1 and 8 weeks at #1. It would've been his 2nd year of being #1 for all 52 weeks. The drop in BO3s this year has cost him more weeks at #1 (making it more difficult to eventually hold the record), a tied 6 YE#1 record, and (as in 2016 and 2018) a tied 6 WTF record.

hmmm. it's the almighty WTF though? More important than anything but slams and almost more than slams according to TTW.

This year it is a very important tournament. Djokovic really needed to win here and cement the YE #1 ranking to have a realistic chance of breaking Federer's record for weeks at #1.

Let's be realist though: he still has 2 years to beat that record, and i believe he eventually will do that within the next 12 months.

Fed derailed him this time, but only prevented the inevitable by a few months.

Djokovic is playing in a more difficult era, so his best is no longer enough :)
As you can see, Rafa is even struggling on clay, and Federer lost to Tsitsipas at the AO, so its just a more difficult era.

Just sloppy.
He won two majors this year, that alone makes it an incredible year for him. Even if he keeps failing in non-slams, he needs 5 more of those and he's GOAT. Winning one more slam is better than winning 20 more Masters 1000's for his (or anyone else's) legacy. Both Annacone and Courier suggested this week that Novak is just peaking and playing for the slams now, and that's what he should do since next year he's 33. Lendl wasn't motivated by anything but majors by the time he was 27, Novak is 5 years past that.

Nothing is inevitable in tennis and 6 more months of being #1 will be difficult for Djokovic. If he doesn't defend his 2,000 points at the AO, his chances of being #1 again before Wimbledon aren't great. And Nadal isn't defending 4500 points during the clay season as he usually does, so there's room for him to gain during clay. Djokovic may indeed pass 300 weeks at #1, but it probably won't happen in the next few months. The ATP Cup offers 750 points (all new points) and we'll see how that transpires.

But this thread is about the records, and Djokovic's sloppiness in BO3 might cost him eventually holding those records...weeks at #1, YE#1s, WTFs, Masters.

True, but majors won is the gold standard as you know. How many Masters 1000's anyone wins isn't even in the discussion of the biggest records and I'd say that even if Fed had 50 of them.

LOL Federer a 38 year old lost at AO and is a surprise to you, that is called a weak era...

We’re overstating this. Reaching three masters finals and winning two of them is very good for a 32 year old.

In the next 3-5 years, Djokovic can achieve a lot. Get the No. 1 one more time as well WTF. Win a few more slams as there will be plenty of opportunities. Get more weeks at No. 1 etc. Don't write a Goat off. It's perfectly normal to have a bit of a slide from time to time only to bounce back.

Djokovic's loss to Taro Daniel marked the beginning of the Oldovic Era

A lot depends on the AO. If he wins there he sets up a chance to push again for #1. Anything but a win pushes the #1 ranking beyond the horizon.

Or Rafa just get injured again.

Which is absolutely a possibility.

All it takes is a few months off and Nole is back on top, even without winning AO.

Federer won 2017ao and 2018ao, because guys like Tsitsipas weren't ready yet.
2019 was the dawning of a new era :)
Toward the end of 2018 we started to see the changes, with Thiem playing that 5-setter with Rafa at the US Open,, and Djokovic being straighted-setted in the Paris and London finals.....by Khachanov and Zverev.

Novak is his own worst enemy. Its all mental with him. He looks like hes not up for it sometimes, which is understandable. Im sure all players go through it at times.

He saves the biggest grind for the slams, and im sure he will be fine come AO .

Won madrid beating the 2nd best clay courter along the way

Initially it feels he doesn't perform in 500,then it's the masters and then you know it..

I fear he doesn't have the dedication anymore. How many times we have seen this season ,a player comes on and throws the kitchen sink at Nole and instead of responding like a month hungry wolf,he just gives the match away..Medvedev at Cincinnati,Tsitsipas at Shanghai,Thiem at London..

He cant string a good performance in couple of consecutive tournaments anymore.
