Disappointed with Denis. Yes, his play wasn't up to par, and Lloyd Harris played brilliantly, and that just happens some times. But more importantly, Denis seemed to blame his coach for his loss. (based on a Twitter GIF)
I hope it's wrong. If it's not, then I will not support him.

Starting to feel Felix will be more consistent but Shap win bigger titles.
That was my take like at least two years ago when they were just getting started. FAA has a more meat and potatoes game that doesn't rely as much on being hot to win... but it's going to be much harder for him to beat any of the top guys. Shapo has a much bigger game and when he's on, he can literally beat anyone... but if he's off just a little bit, he can easily lose to anyone. Based on that, FAA should have more consistent good results, but Shapo has the better chance of getting hot at the right times to beat better players to win bigger titles.

Overall not a great day as Shapo loses in straights to Harris, but Andreescu does move on after an easy win over a very much lower ranked opponent.

FAA against Tiafoe, and LAF against Kerber tomorrow!

To be honest, he needs to change his coach. Youzhny did his job well, but IMO he can no longer improve Denis further.

Dude needs major change in match approach.

He needs to use his 1st serves much more often as an approach shot a.k.a serve-and-volley - right now his 1st serve is his best and most effective approach shot - his groundie approach shots are more dubious IMO.

He also needs to hit more conservative second serves, as about half of his DFs have been from trying to hit aggressive second deliveries. Sometimes you only have to throw a kicker into the middle of the service box, as opponents like Harris or Baena yesterday will not jump in to crush return winners.

Finally, Shapo should shorten his backswings.

Also, he should not use dropshots, he is simply not good at that.

Yes but some of us are Canadian-Romanians, so we love Emma!
Understood, but even though she may have Canadian citizenship, she identifies and plays as British, so for the purposes of this thread, she wouldn't be considered a Canadian player.

Just read her wiki article, and I guess she is dual Canadian/British for citizenship, and half Romanian and half Chinese for ethnicity. Canada, Great Britain, Romania and China can all cheer for her!

Another fantastic day to begin the second week as LAF upsets a second multi-slam former #1 and US Open winner in a row in taking out Kerber. FAA follows that up by dispatching Tiafoe. Both into the quarterfinals!

Svitolina will be tough because of form but after Osaka & Kerber it's really on Fernandez to go out there and keep taking it because she certainly has the potential to win.

Felix against Alcaraz is another example of him getting a very beatable opponent if he plays up to it. Forget the hype, Felix zoning cannot lost to Alcaraz in present form, so it will be on him and it will be a disappointment if he doesn't come through.

Looking at the remaining draw though, Leylah has a legit chance to win it all, as surprising as that may sound. Felix has virtually no chance when it comes to the final four and of course title match. He'd at least have to beat 2 of Med/Zverev/Novak unless miracles happen and the stars align but a miracle would be him making final.

Bianca put in a valiant effort, but could not overcome her thigh issue and ultimately loses to Sakkari.

Down to LAF for the women and FAA for the men.

At the USO it is down to Felix and Leyleh. We'll see if either of them wins today. I am rooting for Carlos but Felix could win.

Just a final update post US Open.

FAA was leading when Alcaraz retired from their quarterfinal match, which resulted in FAA making his first ever slam semifinals. He ended up losing in straight sets to Medvedev, who clearly was a level above. Still a great result for FAA, which carries him to his new career high ranking of 11, and 10th in the ATP race.

Leylah continued her incredible run by taking out #2 ranked Sabalenka to complete an extremely unlikely run to the US Open final. She managed to beat the #16, #5, #3 and #2 seeds... but ironically loses to #150 ranked qualifier Raducanu in the finals.

On the doubles side, Dabrowski had a great chance to make it to the finals of Womens Doubles, but unfortunately her partner Stefani suffered a leg injury during the semifinal match which forced them to retire.

All in all, I think the US Open would have to be considered a big success for the Canadians.

Liam Draxl playing today in the ITF USA F13 Futures (had to copy and paste that one) the lone Canadian in the first Round of 32 and seeded 6th. Inside the Top 500 now and turns 20 this December. Basically all these teens lost a good year because of Covid so I think the next two years are hopefully going to see a lot of progress.

Not exactly an important match, but could be some fun.

First round of Indian Wells doubles, FAA/Hurkacz is playing Shapo/Bopanna.

Wonder what led to FAA and Shapo deciding to stop playing doubles together.

Fernandez made a great comeback in her match last night to win in 3. She really knows how to problem solve out on the court, and how to turn a match around. She's into the Round of 16 in a Master's.

A major scheduling logjam for the Canadians in Rome today.

At the moment, FAA, Shapo, AND Andreescu are all set to play at the same time, and they're all interesting matches too.

They are all listed as having start times of 6:30am PST or 9:30am EST.

FAA plays Davidovich Fokina
Shapo plays Basilashvili
Andreescu plays Raducanu

I had hoped Leylah would win today, but alas, she lost in the waning moments of the final set. She's not been great so far this year.

Another great day for the trio, as FAA defeats Giron, Shapo beats Nadal, and Andreescu takes out Martic.

All three into the quarterfinals, but things look tough tomorrow.

FAA and Andreescu both play the #1 seeds in Djokovic and Swiatek respectively, while Shapo plays Ruud.

The Canadian Express came to a crashing halt as none of the three were able to advance to the semifinals.

At least we still have Dabrowski making it through to the semis in doubles, looking to win a second consecutive WTA1000 event.

What a time to be a Canadian tennis fan when both FAA and Shapo are doing well.

FAA defeats #1 Alcaraz in the semifinals of Basel, and Shapo defeats the most recent Masters winner Coric in the semifinals of Vienna.

Can't wait to watch both of them in the finals tomorrow...

It's just hard to keep those two Canadian boys down for long.

Someone in the shapovalov camp resembles bob saget, albeit younger?

His bh seems to have improved, kept well in rallies against coric.
