I also enjoy watching him play, he may be not at his best form yet, looks little to heavy, he may need to slim down before Wimbeldon.

Out of curiosity: what do you guys like about him?

Some random thoughts on the Flipper. Sorta chronologically...

'95 Scottsdale. Breakthrough tournament over Todd Martin. What a talented kid!

Injury prone, but he's got a big game.

A win over Pete in the Oz open. Then he loses to Woodforde.

A gutsy win over Moya in the US Open semi. Then he's thoroughly outclassed by Rafter, in more ways than one.

Plays toe to toe (and then some) w/ Pete at Wimbledon and gets hurt during the match.

I used to root for him, even against Sampras. The serve, the verve, the all-court vibe. Not afraid to attack on clay. Large forehand. Competent volleyer with good touch. Not a bad one-hander and a wicked slice. Even his grunt sounded kind of cool.
Fun to root for, but frustrating.

Then the vanity. The lack of respect for the Davis Cup. The departure from the classic Aussie competitive ethos. The spat with Pat Rafter. Anyone see the Philippoussis/Gambill segment in Geoff Grant's film? Our boy came off as a little idiot, really. Then there's cheesy social life, especially here in the States.

More injuries.

An Agassi-esque renaissance? Becomes really sincere about being in love with the game and not wanting to ever have any regrets about his efforts in tennis.

More injuries. And, well, not quite Agassi-esque. Yeah, we all love an underdog. We all love a comeback. We all love a good story where the plot twists and Flips.

I like his game. Flip probably has as much talent as Safin, but like him still did not fulfill up to expected potential. Flip made the Wimbly finals two years ago(?) and maybe he can advance far again; he needs some more wins since he's ranked at #188 in the world at the moment.

BTW, serveBig, I like the fansite. It's simple but nice. I think to make it better, if possible, add a message board for all the fans to gather and talk.

That was some great writing! Really poetic. Do you write for a living?

Thanks for the kind words.

It was mostly the incomplete sentences and the spacing that made it sound poetic. And the lucky little Flip line!

Yeah, part-time writer with a day job in the tennis industry. Doing what I love. Very blessed ... on several counts.

By the way, nice timing on this thread, serveBig. Even a little clairvoyant?

Oh, and DoubleHanded&LovinIt: were you once SingleHanded&LovinIt? If not, I think introductions are in order.

Take care. Enjoy Wimbledon. And, is it just me or do we all S&V and chip/charge just a litttle more this time of year?

I was once SingleHanded on the backhand wing. I've had soirees with the Double Handed devil...I've since chosen to save my soul and stick with a Single. However, I don't know if Chris from TW would appreciate it if I asked him to change my username back. Just a thought...

He once was lost,

but now he's found...was blind but now he sees.

Amen, brother. Good one.

Now, did you really CHOOSE to save your own soul? Or did IT CHOOSE your soul to save? Just a thought....

I say you hook the man up, Chris.

True, but then again, who hasn't "dated" (read: boinked) Paris Hilton. She's the one Hilton that you'd be wise to "check out" before you "check in" because she's probably seen more wee-wees than the towel man at the YMCA. However she wasn't always that indiscreet. Word has it that she made love only twice during her high school days --- once to the football team....and once to the marching band. It seems that Paris only goes out when the 7th Fleet comes in.

She carries her cute little pet dog in a bag. Her boyfriends had better not if they know what's good for them.

Hey, "serveBIG"! Your thread is misleading. Are you using this thread to out yourself? Did Mark really date Paris Hilton or was it Paris Latkis?
