PENN ATP BALL, what happened to the quality? Anyone else experience this?

Ordered my usual PENN ATP EXTRA DUTY case of balls, but accidentally ordered the 4-ball case.........however.......these balls are TERRIBLE. Are they from a different factory? Has PENN quality changed? I've been using PENN ATP for ages, love the ball for how they fluff up and last forever. This case I bought......hard as rocks, cover goes bald right away. Same court, same strings, same tennis partner....balls are awful.
Has anyone else had a similar experience lately???

I order a 24 case of 3 ball cans every Dec. Have used 3 cans so far and they were great.

glad to hear you got a good case of balls. .....hoping mine was just a bad batch and that's the end of it, maybe the 4-ball cans have a different factory. I would hate to switch to another ball.

So the 4-ball cans were labeled as "Penn"?

My husband and I get them at Academy Sports and the last several cans had balls that were harder than usual and had no bounce - basically dead from the get-go.

I just ordered a case this past December and all the cans I've used have been good thus far. Maybe you got a batch that was sitting in the factory for too long.

Think Inventory Turnover. I see someone use a 4 balls/can once every 20-30 cans opened. The rest of the time, we are using 3 balls/can. This means the 4 balls/can population is probably aging on the shelf and losing pressure. When you ordered the case of 4 ball cans, it was probably at least 6 months old if not greater.

I've seen fresh Penn's from the can lately that have a definite wobble, or have poor bounce. Harder hitters can easily knock off the majority of the felt in about 40 minutes (so instead of leaving them on the court for some other group, better to just throw them in the garbage or recycle).

Like the Penn Marathon though.

Penn ATP is the same as Head ATP in Europe, right?
Because I've been using nothing but those for a few years now, and imho they're the best balls out there...
I use about 24 cans of 3 balls per season (5 months).
