Poly/Multi & Multi/Poly Setup

Hello, I am looking for some advice on setups. I recently developed arm issues with my current setup of Tour Bite/Iontec Black which I have been using for about 1 year. I strung a full racquet of Rip Control and had no arm issues. However, I found the rip control setup to be a rocket launcher to compared to the controlled setup I used to have.

Can anyone suggest a few setups? I am willing to try Poly/Multi or Multi/Poly but remember looking for a soft poly. I believe Iontec Black is soft but I assume Tour Bite is on the stiffer end.

Thanks

Multi mains will get eaten by the poly crosses for breakfast; I do not recommend it. There are maybe some pre-packaged hybrids of Beast Control left on TW. PHT/Xcel felt nice for me but XCel is a very fragile string...

What tension are you using with rip control? That's the more pertinent question. If you're stringing anything less than 60 lbs (with a soft multi like RIP), then you will find a rocket launcher.

Strung it at 55lbs. I have my own machine so I don't mind something a little less durable or can try any better full multi's that are more controlled based.

Rip Control is a low powered string and you might go for 60 lbs next time.
Multi/Poly set up is not good at all for durability.
Try Wilson NXT Control or Tecnifibre X-One Biphase for multi or Ashaway MonoGut ZX Pro in a full bed.
You should read carefully the instruction when you string MongoGut ZX Pro.

^He complains about launching balls and you advise X-1 and Monogut which are two of the most powerful strings there are? I don't think it's a good idea.

A nice soft poly like Prince Beast/XP or Kirschbaum Pro Line Evo with Tecnifibre TGV in the crosses maybe? Should be fairly powerful for a hybrid and soft on the arm

been a poly/multi user for quite a while. B5E/N.Vy has been a good combo and both are low powered so string low for added comfort. N.Vy is ~$7 per set (40') so easy on the wallet. or give Scorpion mains a try since that's a bit softer.

I saw your reviews on Multi's and just ordered a few packs of Discho Acura Control and Microfibre. I will give those a shot.

Those are both good in a full bed but I've always liked Genesis Thunder Blast best as a cross string.

What is a good tension to use for say a full bed of Microfibre. I was stringing my poly setup high 40's low 50's but for a Multi do you suggest mid 50's to start?

Depends on the frame but that is a good starting point.

You should try one of the softer copoly's with Rip Control crosses. Something like Black Widow or BHB7.

Prince EX03 Tour 16*18 is what I use.

Oh, then I can definitely help you with that! I experimented with the Microfibre in that frame at 50, 54, 57 and 60 pounds. 54 was my favorite but 57 and 60 were OK as well. 50 was just a little too loose for me.

Yeah, that's way too low. I wouldn't string RIP control anything less than 60 or 62 lbs.

Try 60 at first, see how that feels. Keep moving the tension up by 2 lbs until you can really swing out and keep the ball in play.

Or, you can try a full bed of a 16g poly such as ... oh, pick your poison, doesn't really matter. Just string it at 50 lbs. That will be just as comfy, and you'd get a tad more spin.

Lastly, do what I do: smooth, round 16g poly in mains @ 52 lbs, and Gosen OGSM in crosses @ 56 lbs.
