Be 'me' a turtle or a hare... I strung 39-frames today, plus fully customized another 4-frames, (silicone injected, added leather grips, wt./bal./swingweight, etc.) as well as managed all the regular "in & our" customer sales - guessing around 40-50 cash register transactions there... all during my 10.5 hour workday yesterday... basically that is a "normal day" for me~

As a new stringer (using say a 300-CS w/ Wise 2086 stringing 16x18 with Nat gut mains/multi cross) in your opinion, what is a reasonable time for my first 10 frames/ 25 frames /100 frames?

Don't worry too much about times.
Most people lie about their times by not counting string removal, string measurement, pre-stretching, mounting the racket, etc.

If you want fast times, you should try to find someone to give you stringing lessons, if that is possible.
I know a guy who did it in 20 mins in his first few rackets, because he took lessons.
There are lots of time saving shortcuts you will never figure out on your own.
Otherwise, watch quality Youtube vids, Most are garbage, as with most things.

First 10 frames, you should aim for 2 hours.
You will make mistakes and not know any shortcuts and will need to look everything up repeatedly.

Best bet, find someone on campus to show you all his tricks in one session.

Most people? Like who? Seems like a rather offensive accusation to make without offering any corroborating evidence...

That’s 12 minutes a frame and awful fast for someone knew who does not no what there doing. Theirs 4 errors they’re (oops 5) going to have to due (6) over.

@Tar Heel Tennis concentrating on time is the worst thing you can do. Haste makes waste. Concentrate on understanding the pattern and how to string the racket and avoid issues, then all you have to do is start. The end just comes naturally whenever it comes.

Well, let's see, there is quite a menu...

Don't worry too much about times.
Most people lie about their times by not counting string removal, string measurement, pre-stretching, mounting the racket, etc.

Here we actually agree. One member of the boards continually lies and once stated he could string a frame in 4 minutes.

Otherwise, watch quality Youtube vids, Most are garbage, as with most things.

Patently false. The vast majority of videos are first rate. You had issue with one video which you admittedly didn't bother listening to and spent a tremendous amount of time and bandwidth trashing the author -- the claims you made were universally refuted by other members of the boards.

And now you pretend to be an authority on all things stringing. I can pretty much refute that just by looking at your stringing thread topics. You should, IMO, do way more listening than opining. You did say one thing true, "you make more mistakes when you start out". You should listen to that and heed it instead of throwing rocks at everyone who tries to correct/provide constructive criticism/help.

There you go

P.S. - congratulations, you just made the short list that is my ignore list. :) That indicates that I don't think you're looking for help, it indicates that you are an "issue". It's my way to ban you from the boards.

Other Factors/Misc. Info: i cut out the strings on the first 2 rakets, and decided to start the clock on these 4 rakets!!, so this total time on rkt#3 includes the time it took to cut-out strings and precut new strings from last 2 rakets
on a side note: it took me 12+ years to get to this point where i have an average of 15min on most racquets!, a big leap from my first racquet that took me 3hrs;
i got to this point by learning on my own!!, watching the countless youtube videos and reading this tt.board and many others, for insight and/or better practices shared by many..
i took that info. and tried to understand the "underlying message", being presented!! (critical approach to online information),
i also took a humble approach to not presume to know more than the people who came into stringing before me, by years and/or decades in some cases..

I wouldn’t worry about time per se as much as I would worry about learning good habits & getting comfortable with your machine. What you could keep track of is how much time you’re saving as you string more & more...you should see improvement as you get more comfortable.

To use a motor racing saying, “Smooth is fast”...when you are comfortable with your machine & sure of your techniques, you will find that muscle memory takes over. You’ll get a racquet done, look at the clock, see it only took you 20 mins to finish & you didn’t even notice it.

Good Luck!

@Tar Heel Tennis

If you focus on speed that could lead to the development of bad habits. Instead I would encourage you to focus on technique. Being smooth, as another board member mentioned, is also good advice.

What happened in my case was stringing my first racquet took well over an hour (maybe it was closer to 2). Within a handful of string jobs though, I cut that time in half. Within a couple months, I could string a racquet in about 30 minutes.

That’s where I hit a wall. It was much harder to get the time down from 30 min. Turned out it was the “little things” that got me down to where I am today - usually just shy of 20 min.

For example, when installing the crosses, it was pointed out to me that I would weave a cross, and somewhere in the process of tensioning and clamping...that I would let go of the string (only to have to find the end of the string again to start the next weave). Thar may not seem like a big deal. But when you think about it, when I repeated that move 19 or 20 times in the course of stringing a racquet, the time spent finding the string again before each weave really adds up (conservatively, that’s at least 2 min hunting for the end of the string). Once that flaw was pointed out to me, I changed my approach to avoid letting go of the string.

But that’s just one example. You’ll probably find a few other “tricks” along your journey to save you a little time, without cutting corners.

Best of luck.

A few hours a few years ago. I was using the Klippermate.

surely no fun at all to restring rkt n only fun to hit w/ rkt. if u don't break ur string every wk then no need to waste a few silly hrs to suffer/burden urself. u'v got to do it often like wkly at least to do it efficiently/professionally, so much better sell ur machine to use the $$$ getting the rkt done by the tennis shops who'r doing it everyday ofc they can do it very efficiently like w/in 20min:love::love::love::love::love::love::love:............................

i only do it bcs i found most of the bed still held tension well if only 1 or 2 strings'r broken. also i bought a used stringer not a big worse off. so my 5min 'doggy patch up' can usually last >10 hrs if no hard miss hit right on the bed top anyway even a brand new bed won't survive dat:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D.........................

Other Factors/Misc Info: Cut out old strings, clean frame, cut new strings from reel, string, measure DT and RT, label.

This was the best time I had with this racquet thus far. I was not focused on time, just getting the job done without rushing; pleasantly surprised.

On the other hand, I had to string couple of new Wilson Clash racquets preparing them for a customer that had just come in from Wilson, and I have to admit that they each took more time than I was expecting, nearly 45 mins each. The cross tie-off are two holes beyond the last cross, and with new grommets, I had difficulty getting the darn string through. Compared to the RF, unnecessary complexity IMHO.

on any newly done string bed watava quoted tension will drop w/in a couple of hrs hitting, actually w/o hitting.........lololololol manohman. u'v got the machine, test it by urself: simply clam a pc of string then pull it to the advertised/quoted tension n let it stay on ur machine for a day then chk the tension again...........lololololol:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D..................

dat's exactly why pros are changing a few rkts even w/in a 2sets match, ie tension dropped8-B8-B8-B8-B8-B8-B............

my 'doggy patched up' string bed always stay ~35lb n same feel all the time:love::love::love::love::love::love::love:..............

That one threw me off for a minute. Your lines are usually so good and those yellow mains looked like the outside strings for a minute. I though you had 4-5 strings on the outside of the frame with crossovers. LMAO
