Pre-match gamesmanship from Nadal. I love it!

Plenty of players go over the time limit, which is much shorter than what it should be, anyway. They only care when it's Nadal. It's absurd. At 1992 Wimbledon, Seles was getting criticised heavily for grunting, while Agassi was grunting away on the men's side without any criticism. The aim of such criticisms are clear, to rattle Nadal, masked up as "enforcing the rules".

Have you got any stats to back it up? (plenty of players etc.)

Why should time limit be shorter? Many players can cope with it.

Reality is that rules should be enforced.

Clearly, Nadal style of play benefits from longer breaks between points and therefore disadvantages his opponent.

Why should opponents be disadvantaged because Nadal abuses the rules and officials do nothing to stop it?

As many people said, we should have a clock on court displaying the time limit and constant abuse should be penalised with points awarded to opponents.

Funny, isn't it:

Yes it is funny:

Young Nadal is asleep dreaming about winning USO14, whereas old Federer is actually trying to win it.

Nadal does things on his terms. It helps to get himself in the right frame of mind. What's amusing is how some people are so obsessed with what Nadal does. What this shows is that they are angry that Nadal is keeping control by going into his own little routines, and therefore they cannot rattle Nadal and get him doing things on the terms of his opponent.

Except in professional sports, there are something called rules and you need to still abide by them while you are "doing things on your own terms".

Nadal Rosol 1 entertained me. How can this not be entertaining?

this one, i think Rosol is the guy who was wrong. Nadal was going straight, Rosol cut him off.

If you were driving straight and somebody cut you off like that, that person would be liable in an accident.

As a rule, I don't watch Federer's matches. I watch his matches when I want to see Rafa's next possible opponent. Fed looks like he doesn't want to be on the court. And I wish him to get off the court as soon as possible. He is so-oooooo boring!
I don’t blame you, but I do watch Federer matches for a few minutes sometimes. In early slam rounds, it is always entertaining to see what kind of injured retired doubles journeymen they came up with to pad his draw, while into the second week you might catch a glimpse of a solid player like Robredy pummeling him.

Yes, play by the rules and use fresh ingredients, not the stale rotten stuff like your lost pal here!

Excellent post, and, don't hold your breath waiting for a reply-or, at least a reply that makes any sense whatsoever.

I'm waiting for the day when Rafa and Maria retire. Will be good for tennis.

It feels great to watch this USO without Nadal pushing his hand in his ***** each time he serves.

It is still mind-blowing to me that someone can create a thread with thumbs up image beside word "Gamesmanship"

Kinda is ironic that the two best players on clay on both the women and mens side are the two most annoying players in the world to watch.

That's what Nadal does: Engage in gamesmanship and then enjoy...

To love clay-court tennis, you have to be of a certain type (and not a pleasant one). Then, the more you play clay-court tennis, the more you enforce the notion that you're of that type.

Ok Rosol matches were entertaining but it makes Nadal a terrible person using all those tricks to play with people minds instead of just using his tennis to do the job. He is the kind of person who will try anything to win and then be all smiles and hugs afterwards. It's disgusting.

Well, Nadal is ultra competitive. He said that his friends don't like this.

Even in friendly games of anything he takes it seriously and wants to beat their opponents. He plays a simple card came like it is a GS final.

Rafa has this warrior mind. It's good for the tennis court, not so much off court. I guess, he was so brainwashed by Toni, that he can't shut it off even when he is off tennis court.

I know you are a troll but some people who know a lot more about tennis than you slightly disagree with your assertion.

If Rafa and Roger looked like each other you would be a Fed obsessive and a Nadal hater. Sad but true.

What??? From both??? Only from Rosol!
Rosol covered his eyes with his towel while moving towards Rafa, who headed to his bench, and attacked Rafa physically

Hey, this is great. I mean I admire at what details you go to prove your point.

Why are you even wasting your time here? You should use your knowledge and skills to help mankind or something, not wasting it on Fed fans.

Out of interest are there any players other than Nadal that you enjoy watching Sweetie pie or is Rafa your one and only?

Your guess is wrong! Rafa was born with a warrior gene, he is not the first professional athlete in his extended family. His uncle Miguel Angel Nadal played for the Spanish national football/soccer team over a decade. Rafa enjoys playing tennis and loves competition.

Excerpts from Rafa's intreview to Japanese TV in September 2010
Q. At what age did you think about becoming a professional athlete?
RN. Ever since I was a child I always thought, “If I practice tennis, I could become a pro.”

Q. Is there any method of practicing that you recommend for children who are just starting tennis?
RN. My advice is to love tennis and to enjoy playing it.

Q. During difficult moments, how do you motivate yourself?
RN: If you mean [the difficult moments] is when I’m on court, I just think about wanting to win and things like that. I love everything about winning. However, apart from thinking of wins or loses, I think about playing well. Playing well is the feeling of battling until the very end.

You are correct when you say that he even takes friendly games seriously, but I don't think he ever said that his friends don't like this. What he actually said was in an interview.

QUOTE.
Nadal notoriously takes the game very seriously. He once told Telegraph [ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/tennis ... -golf.html ] that he puts "human feelings on hold" when playing.

"This means that when I go out on the golf course with my friends everyday human feelings are put on hold. I have a phrase I use before a game to set the boundary between our enmity on the course and our affection off it. I look hard at my golfing pals and say: 'Hostile match, right?'I know they laugh at me behind my back about this, but I am not going to change.

"I am decidedly unfriendly during a golf game, from the first hole to the last. It's true that you don't need the same intensity of concentration as in tennis, where, if your mind wanders for three or four minutes, you can lose three or four games."

Of course his friends don't like this. Who likes people who take any friendly game seriously? I know a couple of those and it's annoying as hell.

When I play a game, I want to relax, not turn it into stressful competition.

Well they don't seem very concerned if they laughed about it. When I play a game I want to win and it's annoying as hell if the other participants don't take it seriously. Each to his own I say, horses for courses.

I didn't say they are concerned, just that it bothers them. But I guess it's not a deal breaker to start avoiding such people.

I usually just have fun and own such people who try it seriously. That for some reason shuts them up.

Also, I play better anyway, since I don't care about winning and it's zero stress. But they care so much, it affects their game :).

Competitive spirit will out and you would expect someone as competitive as Nadal not to want to win. I think that's called shooting yourself in the foot.

But that is not for all competitive people. All greats aren't like that. I was also playing against very good people and they don't want to completely own me, they want it to be competitive and that I have fun. It's not all about them.

Correct - even though Nadal himself said he cheats:

USO '10:

"I didn't know where to serve, I looked over and they (Uncle Toni) said to serve out wide"

Paraphrased - but no time to google.

I have never heard that spectators complaining about 'time wasting'. The only ones who whines about everything are Fed fans (including these journos who are Fed fans).

So in your world the only people that dare not worship Nadal and praise everything he does are nasty horrible Fed fans?
