Predict the score 2 Hingis v Pierce

I don't think Hingis is going to be able to handle Pierce's pace. Mary should win in straight sets.

Lets see how much Pierce can annoy the poop out of Hingis with her gamesmanship.

What I wouldn't give to see Hingis aim her shot at um... Pierce's head, or something.

Naah.

I suppose... 6-4, 7-6 or something like that.

I hope Hingis can throw Pierce off like Mauresmo did at the year end championships. Go Martina! Send her back to Canada!

I cant stand Pierce, ever since the Dementieva match, i hope Martina sprays winners all around the court, should this match occur.

Well, for what it's worth, Martina Hingis has a 10-6 career record verses Mary Pierce... so she's handled Pierce's pace before. Hingis is still unproven in her comeback verses the top 15, but she is capable. I think it will come down to confidence for both women, and Pierce has to have more of that right now given her performance last year. I expect Pierce to win in two close sets (like 7-6, 6-4) but I would not be shocked to see a Hingis win either.

Wishful thinking, but Pierce will probably take it, 2 and 2. One thing's for sure, Hingis will not beat Pierce at this stage in her comeback. Maybe sometime in the future.

Check out the head-to-head. I don't think Pierce is that much better now than from '97-'00. She still bashed the hell out of the ball then & Hingis had no problems with her, check out some of those scores!

1994 ZURICH CARPET (I) R16 M. PIERCE 6-4 6-0 (Hingis' 1st pro event)
1995 CANADIAN OPEN HARD (O) R16 M. PIERCE 6-0 6-0
1996 HAMBURG CLAY (O) Q M. PIERCE 7-6(5) 6-2
1997 AUSTRALIAN OPEN HARD (O) F M. HINGIS 6-2 6-2
1997 SAN DIEGO HARD (O) S M. HINGIS 6-0 6-2
1997 CHASE CHAMPIONSHIPS CARPET (I) Q M. PIERCE 6-3 2-6 7-5
1998 AUSTRALIAN OPEN HARD (O) Q M. HINGIS 6-2 6-3
1998 SAN DIEGO HARD (O) S M. PIERCE 3-6 7-6(7) 6-2
1998 CHASE CHAMPIONSHIPS CARPET (I) Q M. HINGIS 7-6(4) 6-4
1999 AUSTRALIAN OPEN HARD (O) Q M. HINGIS 6-3 6-4
1999 DU MAURIER OPEN HARD (O) S M. HINGIS 7-6(3) 6-3
1999 FILDERSTADT HARD (I) F M. HINGIS 6-4 6-1
1999 CHASE CHAMPIONSHIPS CARPET (I) Q M. HINGIS 6-1 6-2
2000 SCOTTSDALE HARD (O) S M. HINGIS 6-4 6-3
2000 INDIAN WELLS HARD (O) S M. HINGIS 6-4 6-2
2000 FRENCH OPEN CLAY (O) S M. PIERCE 6-4 5-7 6-2

From '97-'00 Hingis had 10-3 lead on Pierce. All 10 of those wins were straight sets, 8 on hard, 2 on carpet.

As much as I don't like her gamemanship, I expect Pierce will have little trouble with Martina. That is if she keeps her head straight. Otherwise, Hingis will win in three.

It is likely that Hingis vs Pierce will be 3rd round match but women's tennis isn't as predictable as few years ago. So in case Hingis wins second she will move forward from 3rd as well.

Hell no! We don't want her :)

Sorry, didn't mean to insult my canuck friends like that! Send her back to France, whom she claims she plays for! Mary is actually 31 now, getting over the hill in tennis terms!

I am afraid Pierce will win. Especially if she plays like she did in the 1st round. She will just have Martina's 2nd serve for lunch and blow her of the court. My guess is 6-4 7-5 loss is best case scenario for Hingis. Unless she really plays the crowd and Pierce chokes. It happened before!

Go Hingis! Please take down the ugly witch somehow!

So why do you all think Pierce will blow her(& her 2nd serve) away? She couldn't in these matches:

2000 INDIAN WELLS HARD (O) S M. HINGIS 6-4 6-2
2000 SCOTTSDALE HARD (O) S M. HINGIS 6-4 6-3
1999 CHASE CHAMPIONSHIPS CARPET (I) Q M. HINGIS 6-1 6-2
1999 FILDERSTADT HARD (I) F M. HINGIS 6-4 6-1
1999 DU MAURIER OPEN HARD (O) S M. HINGIS 7-6(3) 6-3
1999 AUSTRALIAN OPEN HARD (O) Q M. HINGIS 6-3 6-4
1998 CHASE CHAMPIONSHIPS CARPET (I) Q M. HINGIS 7-6(4) 6-4
1998 AUSTRALIAN OPEN HARD (O) Q M. HINGIS 6-2 6-3
1997 SAN DIEGO HARD (O) S M. HINGIS 6-0 6-2
1997 AUSTRALIAN OPEN HARD (O) F M. HINGIS 6-2 6-2

Does Pierce play any differently than she did back then? I don't think so. And Pierce is 30, right? Pierce is a very predictable basher of the ball with no mobility. Hingis retired because of the Williams sisters, not players like Pierce.

I predict that...if the crowd really gets behind Hingus, Pierce will crumble. In this case, it'll still be close, but Hingus will prevail in the end.

Well, so much for that one...

I didn't expect Pierce to get beat in the 2nd round and spoil the match up. However, based on what I saw from her opponent, Hingis should win pretty easily and get to the 4th round... assuming she wins her second round match.

I love it! Pierce doesn't hold up her part of the bargain! Couldn't have happened to a nicer gal!

Wow, couple Pierce's loss with Clijsters' injury, and we could see a semis match b/w Mauresmo and Hingis. Awesome!
