Prince Phantom

I imagine that's my next racket. I'm hoping it's like the Tour 100 with a little bit of the pop/responsiveness of the 100P thrown in. So a 2017 release date?

Good thing you didn't part with 300 EUR to ship one from Japan!
Yes, luckily they were not released yet in Japan.
Release in Japan is in November and it looks like EU and US release will be in January 2017 so I don't know if I will be able to wait for two extra months:rolleyes:

I expect non-Japan version to be less headlight then other country version. Other specs will probably be the same.

If you look carefully (full size images) it seems that the racquet on the wall has ports whereas the racquet held by the guy does not.
New racquet coming from Prince ?

This company really needs a serious investor. Their racquets are way to good to not to be used by the pros, as much as the other brands.

I look carefully and there absolutely port grommets.
See 3&9, there's no visible of string hole grommets

It is good to hear about new Tour 16x18 port.
Hopefully it can be available in Jan 2017 without any delays.

These racquets were mentioned in the Prince 2016 thread back on August 9th; Smalahove very kindly put the TW Japan? picture up. Great to see 'Coming January 2017' in the bottom left of the picture 'frame' from the image referenced above - YAY!! Soo NOT Bankrupted!!

^^ I was waiting for themitchman to chime in on this :)
- Do you maybe have any information if there's also going to be an 18x20 Phantom???

Hopefully they got relegated to the trash bin where they belong. If these are going to be players' racquets, they ought to be designed for adults.

The Japanese models tend to be overembelished in many ways. Look for the U.S. Phantoms to be more in line with the existing Textreme line, with the grommets likely matching the inside of the hoop.

Torsten Peschke has been using one of them for a few months as they are trialled. The sweetspot is huge and they are very stable for the weight. I only hit about 10 balls with it but was very smooth.

Sorry, I've been on court teaching all summer, so I haven't been on here much. I don't have any info on an 18x20 version at the moment. F I hear anything, I'll pass it along.

Exactly. I've hit the Phantom on three occasions. I think this frame will develop an instant following. Prince is going back to the o3 ports for this racquet, but beefing it up a bit. Precious Tour 100 models were very low-powered and required some effort to pop the ball consistently. A bit extra weight in the Phantom makes it easier to get that pace. The thin beam and o3 holes create a very easy yet quick swing.

You used the best word to describe it: Stable and smooth. I would also add "solid". Nice to see a company make frames that aren't tinny.

I was impressed with the 100P, but the Phantom takes it up another level.

This looks like a seriously nice frame. This racquet in a 95 would've been the holy grail for me.

Thanks, themitchman! I'll be following this thread regardless, hugely interested in these new Princes :)

The one with ports.. I actually didn't know they were doing one with grommets. Hopefully there will be a plus version somewhere as my Precision retro's are getting ooolllllddddd
Yes, the one with grommets should replace Tour Pro 100.
Did you ever play with Tour 100 16*18? If yes can you make comparison with new Phantom ine terms of feel/power/spin/head shape?
Thanks!

Phantom is closer to the o3/Ozone Tour 100 as far as shape. After all, it has o3-shaped ports. All of the Tour 100s have featured plenty of access to spin, and the Phantom is no different. Higher power level than the past Tour 100s, which is great because those frames didn't give you much help generating pace. The feel is soft bit stable. Definitely not mushy, though. I would describe it as "buttery."

Long story short - in a world where tinny, stiff frames that focus too much on spin are a dime-a-dozen, the Phantom is a very refreshing hit. Flat and spin hitters will both enjoy what this frame offers.

Don't mean to gush about it, but I've been moving from frame to frame for a while now, but will commit to the Phantom once it is released. Even my hitting partner said "that is YOUR racquet" after see how consistently I was hitting the ball.

FYI I was using Prince Tour XR 16 string strung at 52. I'm 28 and a solid 4.0 player who has won a bit of doubles at the 4.5 level. I'm tall and tend to serve and volley often, but always feel at home as a power baseliner.

Is the "pro version" (with traditional grommets) a 16x18 version of the Tour 100P or is it different?

You can bet I will have one the day it comes out ;) I am a dedicated Prince fanatic!!! I am also a Tour 16x18 fan. It's a great frame once you add leather and a little weight!!! I also think it looks amazing. It's a must buy IMO. I am just hoping that Prince can stay the course and keep releasing great frames like the Textreme line in the coming months (also, not to beat a dead horse, but some grommets would be nice Prince!!!) :D

What do you do for weighting? I also do the leather. I'm thinking this time to add a little weight 10 and 2 to firm up the end a bit.

Do you folks find that adding lead to the tip of the racquet, while it is obviously the most efficacious place, can create a 'fluttery' feel, particularly with out and out player's sticks, eg. C10 Pro or Prestige, that are designed to flex across the head at 3 and 9?

Some more pics.. seems to be more promoted in Japan thus far. Looks really good. Hopefully the flex is nice and smooth.
