Pro Supex Blue Gear - Trial a failure

Strung up a Yonex RDS 001MP with Blue Gear 17 at 55 mains/52 crosses. Gave it an extended trial - practice, ball machine and matches. Utter failure for me. Played stiff and just got stiffer. It could not hold a candle to my normal CyberPower/CyberFlash hybrid. This is the 3rd time I have tried Pro Supex strings and the 3rd time I've found them to be stiff and lacking any feel or redeeming characteristics. Just not right for my game (power and flat strokes).

Oh well, thank goodness for the TopSpin line.

blue gear

i just strung up my ag 200 with blue gear 17g at 58, i agree with you, i also use a yonex rds001 mid with cyberflash mains and pacific tough gut crosses. I can get same spin and better control, feel and pace. only advantage i could see was kick serve. i was thinking of putting bg on my yonex. after reading your post i don't think i will. thanks

I was looking to string my new racquet with all blue gear, was deciding between this and weiss cannon silverstring, looks like I will go with the weiss cannon. How have you other guys found a full blue gear setup, I was also maybe looking to go BG mains and big ace crosses I hear that works quite well too.

Personally I really like the blue gear string but I wouldnt consider ever doing a full job. Ive always hybrided it with a synthetic and also tried it with big ace. The BG and BA combo actually work well together, it wont hurt to try it out :)

I use various kinds but i like Forten Sweet, Gosen OG Micro, PSGD, or Pro Supex Spiral Flex

Blue Gear is an awful string. Stiff, harsh, but great spin. It honestly feels like a first-gen polyester with no feel (even by poly standards) and no playability whatsoever. Big Ace however, is a different story. It's similar to Cyberflash I thought, but with a bit less less power and a bit softer. Big Ace is actually a good string, but Blue Gear sucks a lot unless to have a Nadal-esque game.

Hey netman,

How do you find the CyberPower/CyberFlash Hybrid?? Is it a arm friendly choice, say strung at 55lbs??

I've tried CyberPower full job, and absolutely loved it!! Now, I'm trialling CyberPower with Babolat VS Gut, and am greatly disappointed :(. I think it's because CyberPower is a soft string, and so is Gut, it's too soft for me, not enough pop.

I've got some Cyberflash, but have been weary of using it because alot of people say it's stiff, and not so good on the arm. What do you think??

Sounds like you strung it too tight. Blue Gear does have good power but it has to be strung at the right tension. That tension would have been OK for Big Ace but Blue Gear performs best when strung below 53 pounds. Blue Gear really isnt that stiff...its no stiffer than cyber flash.

CP/CF is a great combo. I string the CP at 55 in the mains and the CF at 52 in the crosses. I tried this hybrid because I found a full CP job too hard to control. The CF adds just enough stiffness to really improve control while the CP adds a little touch of extra power that a full CF job lacks. Just a great combination for my style of play. It is very comfortable as well. Its not as easy on the arm as a soft multi or gut, offering a comfort level more like a syn gut. Better yet it never breaks. I can get 30-40 hours out of it before I have to cut it out. Which is nice, because like all polys, it is a PITA to string.

I had it a 55/52 which is pretty low. I think it has more to do with the elasticity of the string. The Blue Gear felt stiffer when I cut it out than when I strung it. It seemed to have quickly lost any give. After about 6 hours the racquet felt like a board. When I cut it out it felt as stiff as wire, which is the opposite of CP or CF when they are tired.

I did not know that ************** sell these strings.
And probably for you best hybrid would be BG/BA. I have a student who is 15 and he breaks BG in two hrs. But we will try a lower tension as well, like Nick recommends. I find BG a very soft strings. Yonex head shape maybe "clash" with BG anyway, so performance would be different than on other frames.

This is true, I strung up my second frame today with blue gear to play with until my reel of 1.17 ace comes.
This time i strung it at 52, where as i strung it at 58 before. It played much better at 52, nice mixture of spin and power. I think i will stick to 1.17 ace, but i guess i'll give blue gear another hit.

I strung my ag 200 with BG at 58. It seemed to vibrate like crazy, i had to use a dampener, which i never use. does anyone else have this issue? Is 58 lb. too high?

I have big ace micro, does anyone use it in RDS001 mid? string it low or higher? more spin than cf 17L? full job or gut or poly hybrid better?

I have to disagree with most about bg, i use full job at 62 lbs.+ it is awesome. Great spin, control+ power. Plus it doent feel stiffer than most polys.I hit big topspin on the forehand+ driving slice on the backhand+ the bg has really improved my game.

I had found a blue gear excellent stings specially when you hybriding with other polys. More power and of course more spin.

I tried Blue Gear 17 @ 57 in the mains and Gosen OG sheep 17 in the crosses. Over a three month period, the Blue Gear snapped very easily and I've almost gone thru a 600' reel of BG restringing my three racquets. I liked the string but am sick of restringing. I thing I will look for a good synthetic gut hybrid. Anyone know of a syn gut combo close to the BG/OG setup?? Thanks.

Any poly should be restrung after 6-10 hours anyway. So the bluegear snapping is doing you a favor.
