PS3 vs. Wii vs. Xbox 360

Hi,

this is a really random question, but for a person like me who is mainly into sports games, FPS, and some Arcade/RPGs, which system would be the best? I would really like to play online, and here are so far the pros/cons I've seen for each system:

PS3:
P: Free Online
P: Blue-Ray player is a nice touch
P: Some motion control (I don't care much for vibration like so many people do)
P/C: Not the best games right now, but will probably get better later on.
C: I've heard it crashes A LOT.

Xbox 360:
P: Halo and not to mention other GREAT games.
P: Xbox live is supposed to be great
P: Best controller by far
C: Pay for internet
C: overheats and crashes quite a bit as well (btw does anyone know how to prevent this?).

Wii:
P: Motion control is fun when I tried it.
P: Most reliable
C: Have to shell out quite a bit just for controllers (not that big of a deal since the unit itself is the cheapest)
C: I've heard the motion thing gets boring after a while
C: Horrible, if any, online support.

Right now I'm trying to decide between the 20 GB PS3 or the 20 GB Xbox 360/Elite Xbox 360. So what would you guys do now that I've given you guys my thoughts?

I would really suggest looking into what games you want to play. It's all about the games.

360.ign.com/ps3.ign.com/wii.ign.com are good sites. See whats coming out.

Games always over rules graphics ability. If you are old enough to remember Nintendo of the early '90s the SNES/Gameboy were behind Sega's systems but they had it in the games. Same thing with Playstation. If the Wii has the games you want go with it even if they graphics are not as new as with the others.

wii
most fun and interactive you're not just pushing buttons anymore
you're swinging your arms and jumping around and all that good stuff

but PS3 can run linux and has a pretty powerful processor with a bluray player

i'd get PS3 if i wanted to run linux or use cheap bluray player

Wii also plays gamecube games. I'm playing Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime: Echos. Also picked Super Smash Bros Melee and Mario Kart DD. Rocks.

xbox breaks after warranty is over, ps3 has higher quality graphics for virtua tennis 3, no argument, ps3 all the way

okay, so after doing a bit of thinking, I've pretty much eliminated the Wii from contention, and I think I'm getting a fairly good idea of whether I want the PS3 or Xbox 360. I would probably perfer the 360, but I'm a bit scared about it crashing, because I've heard that after a year, it literally becomes a 400 dollar paperweight. So does anyone know what they did to prevent their system from overheating/having problems (if you have a PS3, please reply regarding how you kept it from crashing as well because I'm still highly considering it)? Also, how hard is it to set up online play for either system?

thanks again

as long as you buy it from a good dealer ie GAME or EB you cant go wrong i have 3 x 360's in our home, the machine is really great i wouldnt reccommend it if it wasnt, also there are so much games out for it now you will have trouble picking them! xbox live is awesome too, really addictive, like i say we have 3 and have had no problems with any of them, graphic wise there is no deference in virtua tennis 2 between the 360 and the ps3 beleive me i have seen both versions and the ps3 doesnt surport live multiplayer for every game, virtua tennis 2 on the 360 has become my all time fav for the fun factor online the other night i had a doubles match that lasted 2hours :( but never got boring

so go ahead and treat yourself to the 360!

you might want to check out www.avforums.com and check out the gaming section for more help mate

Xbox 360. There are three reasons:

1. Halo
2. Gears of War
3. Xbox Live ($5 a month, and people actually USE it, unlike Playstation's online)

indeed.

i really do hafta agree with the xbox 360.

online is fabulous, and actually very cheap. what 50 bucks a year?

great games. gears of war is amazing! not to mention halo 3 and halo wars.

and the thing DOES NOT CRASH. those were problems with the first batches. it seems they've weeded out teh problem.

good luck!

If your into fun games like mario stuff then go for the wii, if your into serious games like shooters and real sports games, I've found the better games are for the 360

rfprse: Can you explain why its better?

Also, is there any link that shows that the Xbox 360's problems have been solved? I would have already bought one, but I'm really afraid about it crashing.

Xbox 360 all the way. IMO, it's much better then all the other consoles.
1. best quality of graphics at a good price.
2. best games available. Good games right now, good games later
3. Xbox live, will consume you for better or for worse.
4. HALO 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5. The PS3 costs too much and frankly isn't worth it.
6. Wii, overrated.

what is wrong with you people. the Wii is by far the best system made so far. it lacks online stuff, but that is coming out soon. the games are much more fun to play since they are multiplayer oriented. you are missing out. there is a reason its outselling the PS3 and XBOX COMBINED.

As you mentioned blue ray player is a plus (in terms of cost efficiency).
It's a better, more powerful machine. In the long run, imho, it translates into better games/game playing.
Considering the past games, imho, it's still playstation brand that would bring better games:Final Fantasy, MGS, God of war,...., etc.
Mine haven't crashed at all..., so I can't say what the crashing problem is.

Dude have you beaten Echoes yet?
I am at the end and can't defeat the last boss. Actually I did this over a year ago and gave up cuz it was too hard and I refused to look for help online LOL!

Echoing other posters, it's all about the games. I bought the PS2 just to play Kingdom hearts and kingdom hearts 2. Seriously those were the only games I had on it. Oh and Smash court tennis 2.

I have a gamecube and now a wii cuz of the mario, metroid, donkey kong, mario kart, paper mario, mario galaxy, ZELDAAAAAAAAAA, mario party etc.

I would buy the Gamecube almost just because of Super Smash Bros. Melee lol. I just have a 360 though, I play Ninja Gaiden, Halo(level 35 on XBL), Top Spin 2, NBA 2K7, Gears of War, and Project Gotham 3.

I have a ps3 and it's never crashed! Some idiots shove it into a plastic box like the stores do and it overeats. of course its going to overheat with poor ventilation, any system would! but I also have 360, well it's my brothers.

Anyhow it depends on what you're looking for. Face it,the ps3 and xbox 360 are marketing and designed from the ground up for different demographics.

Microsoft has been marketed more towards on pc gamers, hence the exstensive online game play. They are coming from an online and pc gaming background and incorporating it into a console system.

Sony is using its strong console platform along with the console gamer demographic, hence the huge onslaught of games available for sony. Sony is coming from a console and home-theater bacground and is trying to branch out to online gaming. Home is about to come out, which will be quite revolutionary on how people interact online. and yes it'll be glitchy.

keep in mind that the 360 only seems to have a 2 or 3 titles noteworthy to it's name (halo 3 hasn't even come out yet!) I could go on saying crap about Metal gear solid 4, but i don't and won't cause it's not a reality yet. The fact of the matter is that the 360 is the dominant console out there, by sheer volume. The 360's year (give or take) head start will ultimately be it's undoing. a DVD can hold about 6.34 Gb's, an HD-DVD, can hold 30 gb, and BDVD (bluray) can hold 50 gb (%40 more) per layer with the potential to have more layers than a HD-DVD. even if blu-ray does not replace DVD's, ps3's still have a stronger platform to develope. the 360 is just simply on the verge of being outdated, in a few years you'll either have to buy another console, or hard drive or player. the 360 is repeating the same exact mistakes made by the dreamcast, need I remind you of what happened to it?

The ps3 is in it's infancy and the differences aren't noticable now,but give it some time and you'll see.

the xbox 360 elite has been announced, and yet still no HD-DVD, with blu-ray disc games coming out for the same price I think microsoft has shot itself in the foot. (much like the ps3 in europe

I think I'm gonna get a 360 the day after school ends and only to play Oblivion. Then Halo 3, but until that its gonna be all OBLIVION, maybe some GTA IV when it comes out too.
But 360 is the best by far.
Would get the wii, but tennis sucks on wii sports.:-(

PS3 W/ 60gb hard drive, bluray, wi-fi capable, blue tooth capable, 5.1 dts, and backwards compatable with all playstation games for 600. XBOX 360 deluxe core system 20 gb hard drive, no bluray or hd-dvd, no wi-fi, no bluetooth, no 5.1 dts, not compatable with all xbox games for 400. To add a hd-dvd player is 200 so you are back to 600. I would go with the PS3 due to seemingly more bang for your buck.

I think that in the long run, ps3 is going to be the system to beat, it's just more technologically advanced than the other two systems. I'm going to wait a year or so for the cost to come down a little. Besides, god of war 2 is now out for ps2, can't wait!!!

The 360 prices should drop soon with the Elite coming out. If you shop around hard enough you can find a premium system for $340 brand new. Microcenter had the premiums on sale for $300 over thanksgiving and christmas.

actually it's been stated that the 360 prices will NOT drop after the elite comes out.

I must say the only thing the 360 has and most likely will always have over the ps3 is he online gaming aspect, just because microsoft has so much more background experience.

I love how everyone says that the 360 has better games. But the PS3 has the entire playstation archive at it's disposal. sure it may have a few more titles now, but with the 360's year head start it's actually kind of sad in comparison. Especially when you think about how a ps2 title's release, god of war 2, is bigger than most of the next gen console games released.
