I have had the Sony Smart Tennis Sensor for a while (Finally Replaced by Sony). I just got the Qlipp Sensor so I wanted to test using the Qlipp Sensor and the Sony Sensor on the same racket.
I put the Sony Sensor on end of my racket and the Qlipp on the strings (I had a hard time getting the Qlipp on the strings but maybe others didn't.)
I connected both devices and use the video mode for Qlipp via my iPad and the video mode for Sony via my Android phone (Qlipp does't have video on Android yet) - I started a hitting session off a back board.
Total Shots
Sony: 81
Qlipp: 81
Forhånd Shots
Sony:41(Topspin) Sony just shows topspin or slice, not flat
Qlipp:28 (Topspin) 21 (Flat) (Says I didn't have any slice shots
Backhand Shots
Sony: 11 (Topspin) 13 (Slice) (Flat) Sony doesn't record flat.
Quip: 1 (Topspin) 15 (Flat) 6 (Slice)
It seems Sony detects a lot more information as Sony would provide Volley BH, Volley FH and give me the number of them and Qlipp does't break it down as simple. Sony will break down the information much deeper where you can look at certain times during the session and see the amount of shots, type and speed and speed. I don't seem to be able to find that on Qllipp.
VIDEO:
The video mode is about the same. It seems they give you the same information but in a different way. I tried to sync up the video so I could tell if they would register the same type of shot the speed and the spin.
Same shot for each device at the some time on the video
Swing Speed - There seems to be around a 5mph difference in the 2 devices - Normally Sony shows higher speeds than Qlipp.
Sony:48mph
Quip:47mph
Ball Speed
Sony: 46mph
Qlipp:n/a
Ball Spin
Sony: +2 (what ever that really means
Quip:Topspin (30) (Not really sure if the 30 is out of a 100)
Sweat Spot
Sony:Sony shows you a graph
Quip: 74 (I guess that is out of 100)
Volley - Seems Sony does a better job here. Sony gives you the Volley as a FH or a BH and spin and speed and Qlipp leaves that blank.
Sony: Does does this better, hands down
Quip: Just will say volley, not if it's FH or BH
Both Sony and Qlipp need some tweaking but I believe with Software upgrades the Qlipp can get better. Sony has already had a few software updates that have made their software better. I hope both continue to try and get more and more information and allow us deep details of our tennis switch.
