Ive been hammered on here for predicting Nadal to lose since QF...yet despite scorelines making it look routine he could have been in alot of trouble in both his QF and SF matches had he lost long first sets which he came close to doing.

In both matches he has looked so nervous. We saw serena choke today...rafa choked in australia and to an extent in wimbledon sF.

Medvedev probably the worse guy to play if tight.

I must admit im pretty sceptical Nadal can pull this out. Any Rafa fans feel the same or are u all thinking Montreal shows the way. Personally im now hating Montreal win as that i feel will fire Medvedev up.
It would be very strange that Rafa loses in this finals.

I don't see how Medvedev can win, so I'm pretty confident. However, what makes me nervous is how it's all so nicely set up, like it's too good to be true and something bad is going to happen. AO14-like

Exactly how I feel about it. He should win, but it just seems too good to be true.

Anytime he is this close the scary nervous feeling comes over me. The only way to stop thinking about is doing something else. But this is not my slam to win, it's Rafa's. My nervousness has no effect on how he plays.

Rafa always ready & never under estimate any rival.
Am too anxious for the match to start & first set is more crucial than ever to calm all the nerves & sail for the 19th! Vamos Rafa

Are you @Clarky21 reborn ?

I thought Fed fans were supposed to be the hand-wringers but you beat them handily.

if he loses the fed fans will storm in here and be unbearable as usual.
And ill be the one left fighting fire with fire. Only reason i dont like federer is because of his fans they are utter amoeba. Most dont understand tennis. As for federer himself i like him.

No need to be nervous. Medvedev will definitely win this.

So relax and enjoy the beginning of the Medvedev era.

Rafa is way too uptight about getting close to RF's record, that will be one of his problems. That and Medvedev's varied game which puts off most opponents.

Lol calling Wimbledon and AO chokes, especially AO final, where he got utterly destroyed that day by unstoppable Djokovic.

Trolling never stops, try to enjoy the final mate.

As a Nadal fam I’m extremely nervous. Not necessarily because of Medvedev but because of how significant this slam is for Rafa. It’s so essential that he wins so that next year can be the final push for GOAT glory.

I just fear some injury will undo Rafa tonight. We all remember what happen in AO 2014

His is cursed at AO, not USO.

Medvedev is the obstacle.

Yes, I understand what you say. A 4th USO title and 19th slam overall just sounds too good to be true.

Only opponent I've ever gotten slightly nervous about is Djokovic on the other side of the net on a HC after 2011 vs Nadal. Anyone else, **** no. Compared to pessimistic people like @StrongRule who are prolly wussies in real life given how they view things, I always have confidence in Rafa cuz you know, he's a berry gud player n' all.

I don’t see enough big weapons that Medvedev has to trouble. A fully fit Rafa playing well will be good enough to win. Were this just a masters final i wouldn’t even be stressing. The greater the occasion the more tension that comes with it, hence Serena’s recent troubles in closing out #24

Rafa must win at all costs. That’s how important today is.

Medvedev has not enough weapons, yet he's had one of the most stellar summer seasons in the Open Era.

Surely you're not suggesting he is lucky on every point?

Rafa was never even close to trouble in the QF and SF :)
Rafa having double-break leads in the 1st and 2nd Sets of the QF, made it impossible for Rafa to lose, and we know Diego is at the top of the tour in breaks, so you have to expect Rafa to be broken.
Rafa didn't need to win the 1st Set vs. Berrettini, because Rafa took Berrettini's legs out in the 1st Set with the 73 minutes of turmoil, so it'd be impossible for Berrettini to win the match, also the fact that Berrettini never had a break point, so it wasn't even close to danger for Rafa.....so unless Berrettini was going to win THREE tie-breakers.....lol

Rafa did not choke at Wimbledon, to any extent, not at all.
Rafa simply stood too far back to return Federer's serve, and still ended up winning the 2nd Set 6-1, so no sign of nerves.
And Rafa definitely didn't choke in Australia, because if you read what he said, he wasn't even remotely ready physically-
".....because of the things that happened to me in terms of surgery, then what happened in Abu Dhabi, I was not able to work that much the defensive game. I worked a lot on the offensive game, but not that much on the defensive game.
To play against a player like him, playing the way he played tonight, I needed that defensive game to finally have the chance to be offensive, no?"

No Nadal fans should be nervous unless Nadal starts losing. Not against Medvedev. Nadal in straights is the obvious choice. MAYBE 4 sets, maybe.

He didn't play incredibly well for stretches of those matches, but he never looked TIGHT, are you kidding? You often see Rafa sort of switch off mentally usually in 3rd sets when he's already won the first couple, but there was none of that here. He was faced with two very game opponents, and he beat them both without the loss of a set by raising his game when it mattered most, or at the very least outlasting guys who would not go away easily. Tightness is what you saw in the womens final yesterday, not what you're seeing from Nadal at any point in this tournament. He made a lot of errors against Schwartzman, but that was because of the Argentine's brilliant execution of the tried and trusted gameplan of attacking the forehand to open up the backhand, and his incredible movement. He still lost in straight sets.

The thing that makes the final intriguing is that Medvedev is a completely different kind of player to either of the last two guys, so shall prove a whole other sort of test.

I didn’t say he was lucky. I just feel that there isn’t enough in his game to beat a version of Rafa who is 100% physically and playing at a high level. Betterrini may not have as all round a game but had that massive serve which gave Rafa issues despite that fact he was playing quite well. Not long to go now and I’m still panicking about an injury

Don’t think he’ll choke here. 4 sets win.
