The weeks at #1 had a lot to do with injury though. I mean he missed out on essentially a years worth of weeks due to his knee issues in 09 for example.

And it’s really not similar at all to Stan vs Murray. For starters Stan did virtually nothing noteworthy outside his 3 schlem titles. It’d be one thing if RAFA “only” won 22 GS, but he also has 36 MS1000s, the OSG, the same number of YE#1 finishes as Ol’ Rog. No offense, but it’s honestly pretty disrespectful to equate him to Stan in the Stan vs Murray debate.

It was probably because Rafa was a step below on hard vs Roger,Novak, level below on grass and non existing on indor courts. He is the greatest competitor but not as god on majority of surfaces like his main rivals.

His level was realy high withouth Novak out there. Novak isnt healty this year for Paris x3.

Whenever I watched him play in person, he did seem very one dimensional - maybe because he starts 15-20 feet behind the baseline on returns and hits mostly from there. Best counterpuncher I’ve seen.
