patrick digging himself in a hole here, thoug the petty fan in me laughed when he called out toni because he didn't lie. i mean not much can be done about that now.

Well he’s not wrong, Nadal and so many players do this all the time yet Serena does it...

Funny

yeah the rules need to be enforced equally. i dont think that means patrick should do it and get away with it though. in this case, if someone doesnt see it, i wonder if it should just be a warning or something.

I mean we are being kind rough on Patrick here. The dude has never really registered with anyone before today as a villain.

And there it is!!!!! Well done VB!

But where's the official code violation there?

Doesn't hold a candle to coaching "every single point".

Uncle Toni wins the "getting away with it battle" hands down.

This is much worse FT. There's no code violation because there's no such rule, Federer found a loophole and used it to his advantage. And no, Toni didn't coach on "every single point".

Merka is Fed's master plan! ;)

This was a sad case of a grown woman who has always been a sore loser caught up in her own drama and press clippings and whatever “movements” Nike, social media, and whoever else was pushing (references to her daughter, references or being unfairly treated every time she’s played, being an example as a mother, etc.)

That being said, Serena’s coach is right. Toni coaches throughout matches and has done so since 2003/2004. He was literally signaling to Nadal where Nadal should serve in that 2008 Wimby final. He’s never been called on it to this degree.

You know that Toni hasn’t coached since end of last year

Toni himself admitted to coaching, so it's not like Patrick said something new there. He also said that 100% of the coaches do it in 100% of the matches, which is the first time I've heard that be fessed up to, though I'm sure it's basically true. What I think is that instead of penalizing the player, they should toss the coach out of the stands when it happens. And, don't make the chair umpire have to call it - let them focus on the match. That would be much more interesting, and effective, and fair. But in the end, I don't think it has much impact, so it's probably better to just get rid of the rule altogether.

Were you sitting behind Toni in the 2008 Wimbledon final? If not where did you get this info from? I don't remember seeing anything like this on TV. Can you give us your source?

Someone who knows more about tennis than everyone on TT and who knows more about the reality of what goes on in the tennis circuit - as opposed to the arm chair crew at TT
I've never heard him say anything insightful or particularly knowledgeable about tennis.

Obviously he knows more about the tour/insider stuff.

In an interview w ESPN right after Serena's final, Patrick - Serena's coach said, "This umpire was the chair umpire of most of the finals of Rafa - and Toni is coaching every single point .... and he never gave a warning so I don't get it"

video on http://www.espn.com/tennis/

Thought that was priceless!!

:D:D:D:D
The best case against Ramos I heard. Though Tio Toni has gotten away with this with all umpires.
