Ranking Wimbledon Champions by Net Game

Where would you rank each Wimbledon champion from the past 25 years in terms of their net game? That means volleys, overheads, half volleys, reflexes, touch, etc.

Probably would do better in the Former Player section. I'd put Edberg first and Djokovic or Agassi last. Everyone else is quite tough to get in a good order. Of recent times I'd put;

1) Federer
2) Hewitt/Nadal
3) Murray
4) Djokovic

I suppose the question is whether the best of the new generation Federer is as good as the worst of the old generation (excluding Agassi). I can't help but feel this thread is a veiled jab by you OP. But I hope I'll be proven wrong.

Hewitt's net game is underrated. He could volley well, he won a doubles grand slam afterall.

I want to rate Federer higher but I think it's hard considering the surfaces today make volleying less practical. He's obviously less experienced compared to the 90's players.

Hewitt is a more capable volleyer than Nadal, djokovic and Agassi IMO. I would put Agassi last although he certainly was better at overheads than djokovic.

You know, I was watching the Agassi-Sampras IW 1995 Final a couple of weeks ago and thought Agassi's volley was pretty decent. Compared to the players today, he moved into net quite a bit and even made some decent shoe string volleys. Agassi's just not going to come in and force the issue. But you never see any of the other guys on Tour really doing that either (aside from Federer).

Um, no. Sampras had the best overhead, yes. Sampras had excellent half volleys, but I would not say he was the best in history. Becker was hella good at digging out tough half volleys (better than Sampras imo). McEnroe had the best touch and reflexes in history. Edberg had the best all around net package, imo. Sampras had a very good net game, but it depended much more on a huge serve than Edberg's.
