Raonic New Balance Deal

Milos Raonic has left Lacoste and signed a new $40 million 5 year deal with New Balance for kit, bags and shoes. It's the first sponsorship for New Balance. Caught a clip of Milos earlier today with his first round win at the Aus open....nice shirt graphics!

that's a lot of money  I think NB over paid him.
No wonder why the shoe (996: replacement model of 851) price went up $20 per a pair.

$40 mil... I can understand $250 mil for Rory, only because he has potential.. but 40 Mill. for a guy with a big serve?

That's a lot of cash before winning one major! Wonder if NB have an out clause if he doesn't win any in a few yrs or doesn't get to and stay in the top 10.

From a marketing perspective Raonic, thanks to his enormous serve gets a lot of attention which make him a solid sponsorship candidate. He does not have to win a Slam for media/fan attention. All he has to do is continue blasting his serves and racking up the aces while maintaining a top 20 ranking to ensure good marketing exposure for New Balance.

First release of the Raonic-outfits from NB is in august 2013 according to NB customer service... They are in no hurry to cash in, apparently

I'm not Milos-natic but you guys should know better...
If i runned a brand i would gladly pay more to a big server because big servers tend to go further easily in competition.

Serve is the most important shot on tennis.

$40 million is a lot of shoe sales.

New Balance is a running shoe company first and foremost. I buy my tennis shoes at New Balance because they carry several models in 4E but I'm pretty sure that I'm going to avoid whatever Milos is wearing - I don't need to pay an extra $20 for his sponsorship.

I've always thought of NB as being a good company for running gear that flies under the radar.

Too bad the NB tennis shoes wear out faster than most other shoes on the market (almost as fast as the Pro Pulse 4's).

I think that the wear problem is okay as the cushioning goes along with the wear.

On their running shoes, I typically replace them at 400 miles.

I just watched the TW review video and there were a fair number of complaints about the shoe. I was a bit surprised that TW doesn't offer different widths with NB shoes as that's one of the really great things about NB: they offer a huge variety of widths, typically up to 6E. I guess that it would create inventory issues unless TW could drop-ship them. BTW, I'm using the MC548WT for tennis these days. I'm pretty sure that these are out of production but they're the old-fashioned leather shoes that are relatively heavy. New Balance has really gone to more lightweight models in tennis and running. My last couple of pairs of running shoes are a lot lighter than what I was used to.
