IG Radical Pro grommets on Head Microgel Prestige Pro

My regular tennis buddy, and also my best friend, has two of Head Microgel Prestige Pros, and the weight was ok for him when he bought them. He stopped tennis for a few months and he's not as strong as he used to be, he had some health issues, and now he can't accelerate the racquet head properly because it has too much weight.

I know that Radical MP grommets would fit the Prestige MP, but what about the Pro (16x19)?
I know it's hard because the Radical Pro is 16x19 but has 100sqinch.
Are there any grommets that will fit this 98 16x19?

I asked this question a few months back and it appears there is not a regular set that fits. The best way to reduce the static weight and sw would be to just trim the bumper.

Damn, they're close... Are these new transparent ones CAP Style grommets from the IG Radical Pro thick and heavy as the old black CAP grommets?

They will be lighter, as they taper toward the end, but odds are, your best bet is to time the bumper, as the taper from the Rad Pro probably won't make that much of a difference.

Nice. Any ideia how much weight the trim will take off?

Prestige pro cutting capped grommets

I am your guinea pig and trimmed the capped grommets. Read below for more..

I just bought a new microgel prestige pro. It weighed 342g strung, 350g with over grip and smiley face dampener and pro line II 18 @ 52lb. Balance was 7.5HL.

It was a lot more solid that my modified microgel radical mp at 343g with 7pt HL. Rad has more spin and was softer but power and plow wasn't as good as prestige. The mg rad mp is my main stick and I play comp at a 5.0 level- I'm a leftie.

The problem with the prestige whilst being pinpoint accurate, it was was marginally sluggish. I had to toss the ball up slightly higher for my serve and setup time fir groundies took a split second longer which put me off a bit.

Modification --->
I trimmed the capped grommets so it now has the same grommet protection length as a normal radical mp and that reduced the weight by 7grams, down to 343grams and 8pt HL ish. This was perfectly in my weight range.

Playability -->
My ball toss was identical to my rad mp, swinging was significantly faster than before, and faster than my rad, but best of all its still solid, albeit slightly more flexy, whilst still having that great prestige control. I can get more spin and the racquet still popped well. I will test again tomorrow but if it continues to play well, I will buy another one to have a pair and switch to this microgel prestige pro.

If u find the stock weight is a tad too much, trimming the grommet will make a huge difference. It now feels like I'm swinging something that is 20grams lighter.

I hope this helps and Good luck

Thought I would revive this instead of start a new thread. I need to do exactly this - lose some weight on the head of MGPP. Can someone please explain exactly how to trim grommets?
