But the weight is differernt and balance too!

Are you sure he didn't have lead tape on it somewhere, including underneath the bumper guard? Did you weigh it and balance it yourself?

hehe, the funny thing is we are sooo interested in exactly what he plays with, because a part of us wants to believe that by having the EXACT same thing we may play just a little bit more like him.

I completely understand that and I am a sucker for that too -_-

It's clear from photos that Fed doesn't use the retail nSix-one. I noticed the shorter grip, similar to the PS 85, and am not surprised at the first post's description of the smaller head size. As far as the weight and string tension, Fed's own site says he varies these depending on playing conditions.

I saw at the US open that Fed is using the K-factor 90. The unique head shape of K-factor 90 is hard to miss. and also sound from the racket is also a metallic sound which denotes K-factor rackets.

Wow best post ever on these boards. An 88 headsize who would have thought. So weird. Its now so obvious that he didn't use an n code. This racquet is highly customized and will probably never be released to the public. I do not know why Wilson refuses to release this racquet to the public, but it certainly would be nice to actually hit the same racquet that fed used.

Fed uses the k90

Do you know what Federer ACTUALLY uses? I don't know, you don't know, and neither does the general public. We can all try to make claims though. ;) Haven't you read 'The definitive "What racquet is Fed using" thread' before?

could this racquet have very similar weight, balance, etc as the Hyper Hammer 6.3 which JohnCauthen suggested was the closest racquet Federer uses?

If you had done a search, you'd have realized that none of us actually know his actual specs. (It's a pretty well kept secret.)

The best info we have on Fed's racket is either from Greg Raven or Art Art.

Check Greg's site which shows it to be very similar to the stock wilson tour 90 series.

Art Art's specs from the French Open are also similar to the stock specs of the K90 and he said it appears to be a stock K90 when compared with stock one's on site. Art Art's specs were partially backed up by Ron Yu, who along with Nate Ferguson actually are Fed's stringing and customization company of choice. Though Ron didn't confirm that Art Art was correct he said that his specs were 'close'.

So it appears that either of these are the best evidence that we have on what Fed is using.

IMHO, both Greg and ArtArt are right. Greg has older nCode rackets, and I assume that since then Fed has altered his setup.
I think Fed is pretty much open to tweaking his setup like agassi, how else would he have tinkered his way from his average 24-28kg stringing preference circa 2003 to all the way down to 21 kilos nowadays. I assume that since then he might have altered his weight, and the result is the K90 that we now have? It's up to you but this is the best info I think any of us have towards what Fed is really using.

Also just on another note, didn't know where to post this.
But not to be a high swingweight monger, though I am partial to thinking higher swingweight is better.
But if we look at the specs on Greg's site, http://www.hdtennis.com/grs/pro_racquet_specs.html

Looking at the various specs for pro's....Federer has a swing weight of 330...???
This just doesn't make any sense whatsoever for me. Paes, Nadal, Dent, Sampras, Karlovic, and Rafter.
Everyone of these players has a significantly higher swingweight than federer.

I just find it hard to assume that Federer is so dominant and strikes that ball so hard with a swingweight of a stock pure drive +.....
That means that Federer is dominating everyone and returning Roddick's huge serve so easily with a racket that is less stable and less powerful than anyone else on the tour?

maybe that's the reason for his low tension? to compensate

I asked the Wilson rep what racquet Fed is using and he admited that he is using a 85 square inch head with the throat of the racquet being thicker.

Dudes,
very sorry to bother you, but I held a real Fed raquet in my hands few days ago, given to me to a former pro player ( former top 30 ATP) that happen to be quite friend of Fed.
I cannot check the weight , balance and so on because I was in his home, but we compared the raquet with a normal stick, sold in a shop and the size was totally the same ,90 Sq. no 85, no 88 sq.
He told me that this time Wilson decided to manifacture first the raquet for Fed and then to sell exactly the same ( apart some add weight , a grip done on a Fed Hand and a slight different balance).
No PJ I can tell you.
PS I do not WORK for Wilson.

^^^ Nope, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. LOL!!! :)

good one Drakulie. after the beating I took from Alpine Cadet I needed a good laugh.:)

By the way, I made the official switch to the US K factor. I have been playing with heavier racquets the last 2 weeks or so and my arm/shoulder have not tired, so I decided on the switch.

Most Wilson reps don't even know that a lighter "Asian" version of the K90 even exists so I wouldn't put too much credence into what some Wilson rep inside the Wilson tent tells you about Federer's real racquet.

Glad you got a laugh. I knew you wouldn't take it seriously. Don't worry too much about AC>>> he likes to stir trouble. It is part of his charm. :)

Express, drak. . . Express! A Holiday Inn Express! :) Good one, by the way.

That was a good one, Drak.

You so set him up. I know you've been waiting to say that. Too bad you didnt say "Express". Would of been 100% money.

Thanks to all my loving fans. Next time I will make sure to include "express".

no, no, no>>> no autographs please. :)

So, why do people worry so much about Fed's frame? This is a sincere question. Best, CC

I think many of us tried polyester strings because the Pros like it. And I'm sure polyester improved the game of many tennis players. So being curious of the equipment of the pros can actually help you. Now since the PS 85 has so many Grand Slams under its belt I'm sure some may think there's something with the racket that has a slight advantage over the others. Now with Fed on the scene I'm sure many feel his racket may also have an advantage over the other rackets on the tour.

The secret to Fed's FH is not his racquet. He has
a totall custom arm. The swing weight and balance of his arm is
set up perfectly for him. For those Fed-fanatics out there,
perhaps you should be duct taping lead weights to your arms and
bodies to try and get the same "setup" as Fed. Maybe some
shoe inserts to get to the same height. And a Quentin Tarantino
mask to get the same face.

Hey, some pros also have their racquets built for them with a completely different flex than the retail version.

Good question, though: Why is everybody interested in Fed's racquet?

Well, because he's Federer, that's why. People think they will play like him if they get his racquet, because their naive. And yeah, that's also part of why they can't sell his exact frame. Even the one they sell as being his racquet is too demanding for those wannabes out there. Imagine if they sold the actual specs: those poor imitators would be dying.

How does one even find a thread this old? Do people just press the 100th page of threads, and pick random ones to post in?

I am actually CERTAIN the 6.0 85 has advantages over many other tennis frames. :) CC

but is the general consensus that fed uses a racquet with a swingweight in the 330's? that's shockingly low. especially for what he does with that forehand.

but to each his own, as they say :)
