The final of Washington will be an all-American affair. The huge serve of former U.S Open Champion Andy Roddick, and the huge serve of the NCAA star and tournament wildcard John Isner. On the heels of the Roddick-Karlovic semi, this tournament has been a treat for those who appreciate a competition of serving excellence (I dont neccessarily mean that in a big way either). Will Roddick win yet another Summer hard court event, or will the upstart pull off another big win and take it away from him.

This thread has been done already, but I like your opening post better (for what it's worth). =)

I think it's also interesting to note that both excel at tiebreak situations...and you just know we'll get our fill of those tomorrow with the way they're serving.

I'm really torn about who I think will win. I'm hoping for Isner simply because it'd be a great way to cap off his Cinderella run, and he does have a pretty good shot against Andy.

Honestly, I think Isner has a great chance. I hope he doesn't let the occasion get to him (he hasn't so far), and plays his best. I just hope the quality of the match is high, such as the semi with Monfils. For me, the Roddick-Karlovic semi was a snooooozer. At least the Monfils and Isner got into it a bit with some rallies.

That's what I particularly like about Isner. He hasn't played tentatively, and if he's nervous, he sure isn't showing it. Seems as if he's just having a blast out there, and playing like he's got nothing to lose. Hopefully, when it finally hits him that he's in the finals, he won't tighten up and choke away this opportunity.

Sorry I did not see it. Maybe it was being done while I was making mine. Thanks though. :)

I agree there will be tiebreaks. Neither guy returns well enough with the way the other serves to break much, if at all.

isner'll be physically tired and emotionally drained considering he's such a youngster and new to the kind of pressure he's managed to overcome this week. arod 4 and 2. . . but i hope it's a 3-set dandy.

Why would you say this ? Roddick is a master of tiebreakers now, he even practices specifically for tiebreakers. He dominated Karlovic in the tiebreakers and he is better version of Isner.

Do you think thats rare? I would assume most pros practice for tiebreakers. Anyway I voted Isner with my heart, my head says Roddick in .............................2 tiebreaks!

This is going to be a really good match with probably a few tiebreaks

I really hope you are right, but it maybe a routine match for Roddick. cause Isner is probably dead after yesterday's match so there is a good chance isner's serve won't be the same. Monfils really played well and should have won and Isner had nothing left.

Was talking with another person on the message boards in the chatroom who was live at the match last night, and we agreed it would be a great excitement for Isner to win the whole tourney. It's not often enough lately we've had huge thrills like this where a relative lower comes out of no where and makes it to the finals. So I am hoping for Isner, likely in 3, but he'd need it in 2, fatigue is going to be a factor. But it could go either way. He could continue with this breakthrough run, or collapse at the end from nerves or the biggest of the moment.

We also decided that if Roddick wins, it's still going to be a tough continuing run to the US Open for him. If he wins here, even greater hopes will be on him to win in New York. If he loses, people will get even louder that he is washed up, needs improvement, and all the stuff they usually say.

Going for Isner though, but would not be displeased if Roddick wins.

Isner in 3...was there last night for the Isner Monfils match and I'm hoping that John can pull it off and really mess with RodDICK's head;)

I think Isner has to be drained after five continuous games ending in tiebreaks. Roddick most-likely has the experience and the edge to beat him out. I'm predicting a snoozefest match though :p , just like Roddick-Karlovic.

Roddick with break just as john's brother was saying the nerves hadn't gotten to him yet. Just hope he holds out. He made some errors in that game, but at least he was still trying to play his game. Movement can always be an issue with the tall guys. Isner has just 3 inches more height than me so I can empathize.

Ok, it might be subjective, but I was just thinking, that Roddick really starts with the 'pump-ups' and talking at a time like this. He seems to be playing better because Isner's self admittedly tired, so he's not getting to shots or hitting them as crisply as he had, and his serve is more shaky, so Roddick is drawing errors, etc. but its mostly because the other person is not at their best (subjective again, I've not seen Isner play before this tournament). Over confidence? I hope Isner can pull it up a notch anyway. Am rooting for him.

did roddick say, "bail out" when isner hit a second serve ace in the 1-1 game in the second set? roddick is being kind of a dick... but i think john may be getting in his head a little. i dont know how much it will help

Roddick won 2 battles with fellow monster servers. Should be good for confidence. Maybe the summer hard court season is where he gets on fire again. Then again maybe not. What happens when he plays someone who actually can return serve, something Karlovic and Isner cant do.
