Roddick vs. Youzhny *spoilers*

Breaker

Legend
Holy crap, Youzhny up a double break 5-2 in the 1st. His volleys, forehands and especially serves are horrible right now... Not to mention Youzhny is hitting aces and winners all over the place. Do you all think Roddick can turn this around?

Roddick will find a way to win. He usually finds a way to turn around matches when his back is against the wall. A.Rod is begnning to make some noise coming into the US Open and it seems he is taking more risks on his serve and forehand. Roddick should rightfully regain the number 2 rank position and be the favorite for the US Open if he wins Cincy.

Edit: 4-2 A.Rod third set

Well evidently I'm on tape delay and you guys aren't. My telecast has it 6-2, 0-1 Youzhny in the second. Well this blows.

Nope, Roddick was serving and volleying from the second set onwards. He got belted in the first set and he had to change his game-plan.

If this was the case, then thats pretty impressive by Roddick. I think he can take Hewitt if Lleytons def Davydenko.

Actually, I'm impressed with Roddick who shows lots of guts and maturity
in this tournament. My hats off to him still trying to overcome Federer
and Hewitt despite keep losing to them repeatedly. I think he might be
able to finally beat Hewitt and Federer in Cincinatti.

Andy's net play was very very good today. It's what made the difference in this match. If he hadn't changed up his game then I think Misha would've won this.

Well done Andy!

have to say roddick's volleys are definitely improving, doesn't seem to brick 'em or pop 'em up nearly as often as before, he's also getting some decent placement on them. improved technique also....

pretty good stuff.

yeah...he looks less awkward technique-wise at the net...but I think it is more a function of an improvement in choosing and timing his approaches. He was in better position to hit convincing volleys today due to this. I haven't seen him play earlier in this tournament though...has this been the case the whole week?

He can definitely take Hewitt out tomorrow....he's been close the last couple of times, but has self-destructed, playing into Leyton's hands. If he can play a smart match, not panic if he doesn't ace Hewitt off the court, get the crowd involved, I like his chances. He'll have to be even more selective with his approaches though, cuz Leyton's passing shots and lobs are amongst the best in the business.

He should keep the approaches to an absolute minimum against Hewitt. Hewitt passes everybody (except Federer). The way to beat him is exactly what you said--don't panic during the rally, mix up higher pace and slice shots to draw errors or short balls from Hewitt, and be ready to return a number of shots that would otherwise be winners. Also, be sure to employ the backhand down the line and inside-in forehands on key points.
