Roger Federer's Quest For USO6EN & BE21EVE

Old man will be 37 years and 19 days young when US Open begins. He has been to just 1 US Open final this decade. He has won even RG more recently than US Open. It is improbable that he will win given the godawful WACAdasa surface. His season has been very up & down.

Yet as we F-e-d-t-a-r-d-s know: Greed is good. We will never stop believing in our hearts that he's done even though our heads keep b*tchslapping our tickers.

Question is: what all needs to go right for Federer to win USO6EN & become individual GOAT at 2 slams?

- Rough US Open draw (R16, QF, SF, F)
- Tactics

Here's mine:
- Definitely skip Toronto. Duh so obvious. He was coming off a great grass season and was probably favourite for US Open in 2014. Got into gruelling battles in both Toronto & TRS. By the time he was coming from 2 sets down vs Le Monf, he was running purely on adrenaline. We all know adrenaline only takes you oh so far.

- R16: Printed Circuit Board, QF: Dimitrov/Isnr SF:Zverev (not gonna happen but one can dream), F: Don't care

- Neo BH was working fine on grass. It was the FH that let him down. Retool it and not get into rallying from the baseline. Use the kicker effectively & look to finish points at the net.

Weather forecast says ~80/60 degrees F/ ~26/16 degrees C for the fortnight. Shouldn't be too taxing.

Everything is obviously easier said than done. What are your thoughts & expectations?

How can they predict the weather almost 2 months in advance?

If his body can handle it I think he'll make the semis or better. I don't know if it will though. He's been looking his age more and more this year

He will be one of the favourites - it looks like being the most competitive US Opens in a while. He'll have to turn the clock back though - can you believe that he has won RG more recently than the US Open? That blows my mind!

If he stays fit and his serve and FH are on, it's not impossible. It's bloody Federer. As long as he plays, he's probably going to have a shot at winning slams.
That said, he'll need a decent draw. Don't think he can run through Djokovic-Delpo-Nadal in a row, for example.

He can do it:). Plenty of higher ranked clay players, so that you can have an easy draw at least to the SF, maybe even to the final:). If Fedr plays good, i still think only Delpo, Djok and Nads can trouble him. The important thing is to avoid playing both Nads/Djok. He is not playing Canada this year.

As long as he plays with the right intentions all the way through, that will be enough.

Obviously hope he doesn't tweak anything again, or not to the extent where he would have to do a 180 on his playing style.

Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have similar odds with Djokovic being the slight favorite.

Can't believe Zverev is next. The favorite for what? Being pushed to 5 sets by some mugs and then losing to Coric in the 4th round? Yeah the odds are 1,02 on that.

Fed is not old. Don't call him old and discriminate him. He is just experienced tennis player. Master of tennis. He can use his technique to his advantage to overcome any physical adversity. He can still play on the highest level.

Federer should change his tactics when he plays Djokovic on this surface:

Make extensive use of the kick serve and the slider and come in behind all those points
With those courts he will get action out of the court with the kick serve
Even change serving position to allow more angle for the slider

Mix up the pace in the rallies, including slowballing, until the ball comes midcourt then use pace and come in behind the approach

Djokovic has the advantage in all the other areas

Roger's a contender for the US Open if he's in shape and confident about his game. I expect a strong challenge from him this year.
