Roland Garros Matches we are yet to see for Nadal

Nadal has played a total of 18 editions of Roland Garros and all in all total of 115 matches. But there are some top players who are so new and never even played with Nadal. While others have played vs Nadal but never at Roland Garros.

If Nadal plays RG we might see some of these battles..

1. Nadal Alcaraz - all Spanish affair

I mean who doesn't want to see this. It's a dream matchup that ATP wanted to promote even last year, when the said it was battle of the ages.Nadal giving Alcaraz all who got is probably the best thing that can happen in 2024. This matchup had 3 matches and the quality was high even if the players were rarely playing best at the same time. Tennis fans will be hoping this match happens similar to Sampras Federer match in Wimbledon, although Federer was much less known factor then than Alcaraz today.

2. Nadal Tsitsipas - These two have played four times on clay. One of the matches was really a match of the year candidate with Tsitsipas having matchpoints vs Nadal in almost four hr match series. While Tsitsipas has struggled immensely in recent years, it might be huge motivation factor if he plays Nadal at RG once.

3. Nadal Rune - Now this kid has never faced Nadal ever. While he has not won a masters on clay, currently he is top 5/10 player on the red stuff. Nadal will like a challenge of another guy who is 17 years younger just like Alcaraz.

4. Nadal Medvedev - These two have played in 2 five setters in grand slams and Nadal won both of the epics. But never faced each other on clay. This could be a fun mismatch of two styles.

5. Nadal Zverev - These two technically had a match at RG but it was stopped short. Another chance?

What other fun match ups would you like to see at RG/Olympics this year involving Nadal.

PS: Be civil.

Where is Sinner? Apart from Alcaraz others are not interesting to me. I might want Nadal to crush good Tsitsipas though:) Yeah Barcelona match was great.

I hope Nadal doesn't face Alcaraz before the final. It fits the narrative and i find Alcaraz very dangerous at night matches in RG.
I prefer them to play in final. Also if they face i prefer final against Djokovic aswell. Don't want to see third time night match against Djokovic.

Is that because of narrative? Some of these matches can be very fun from tennis standpoint. I would have added more but only could add these before going outside clay top names.

Here's a few unseen RG matchups that I'd love to see, but most likely never will...

Nadal - Kyrgios
Nadal - Fonseca
Nadal - Musetti
Nadal - Shelton
Nadal - Witold Banka
Musetti and Shelton would be awesome. I wanted to include Shelton but hesitated. 2 lefties and contrasting styles.

Rafa v Alcaraz will be tragic now.

We all know it is Nadal v Alcaraz - Hopefully they will play early so we at least have a good chance of getting that match while we still can. A 3rd or 4th round.

Lol at a Djokovic fan making a thread about wanting 2024 Nadal to face anyone. Right, because we know that had it been 2008 Nadal, someone like Alcaraz would be very lucky to win 5-6 games.

He would obliterate anyone but Alcaraz on this list. Even now, so fragile at almost 38 years of age.

I think you are DEAD wrong

If Nadal plays RG we will see.

But you shouldn't take this strong approach for a guy who last played a slam at high level close to 2 years ago.

Obliterate? Bs

I doubt Rafas body even holds up past the first round at this rate.(him skipping Monte Carlo pretty much seals it) We probably won’t see another good Nadal match. This is it. Retirement may be imminent

Sounds crazy but imagine if Nadal went through them all (with or without Djokovic) and won Rg 2024 and retired there and then.

We'd all be more than content.

Crazy thing is he'd walk through them in his prime/peak too.

Would Nadal win the RG title in 2024 with his 2015 level, the worst of the Spanish player in his 18 appearances there, what do you think?

The ideal hypothetical match was Nadal vs Gaudio 2006 FO. Gaudio gave Nadal some trouble early in his career on clay. They played 6 matches all on clay and were tied 3-3, but never played in the FO. In fact, Gaudio is the only player with 2 or more wins on clay against Nadal that is tied (or level with him) on the surface. Gaston (punctuation mark top of O for grammar police) Gaudio notably won the 2004 FO; a year in which the young Nadal missed due to injury. Both players didn't really like each other and had some testy moments on the court.

The 2006 FO saw Gaudio lose to Davydenko on Fed's half of the draw which meant it was unlikely he would've faced Nadal. Gaudio would have an early exit to Hewitt in the 2007 FO and never really was a threat on the tour again.

Gaudio from RG 2004 vs Nadal from RG 2005, who wins?
:)
