5 at Wimbledon, by Borg in 1980 & Federer in 2007.
5 at French by Nadal in 2014.
5 at USO by Federer in 2008.

Nadal currently on 3 consecutive French Opens while Djokovic is on 2 consecutive Wimbledons. Unlikely either beats previous record but just to point out.

I personally think if the grass is still fast enough where a big serve is still valued, it's more probable a player can muster 6 straight. Coupled with the fact 5 has been done twice in 30 years, another time a player won 7 in 8 and 4 in 6 has also been done by two other players (Novak & McEnroe).

The USO seems the least plausible. Tilden accomplished the feat way back in 1925 when the draw was substantially smaller (I can't actually confirm the bracket size other than it wasn't more than 32 given the tournament was 5 days). Nobody besides Federer won more than 3 in a row while after Federer lost in his 6th final, no man has been able to win 2 in a row (10 tournaments after Potro's win).

The French is in the plausible range depending on how you look at the surface moving forward. The clay season is substantial enough for points that a player can focus heavily on it and it's more available in certain parts of the world giving that advantage. There is also some traction prior to Nadal winning 3, 4 and 5 on separate occasions. Borg was the only other one that won 4 but Lendl won 3 in 4 and a total 4 additional players were able to muster back to back runs. Nadal is the undisputed GOAT but in some ways has shown what a heavy clay oriented player can accomplish after him. Courier lost out on 4 straight due to Bruegera coming up and that first loss was in 5 sets. Kuerten dealt with injuries and Wilander's 3 in 7 saw him blocked by Lendl 3 times. Prior to the OE, Cochet and Lacoste alternated titles for 6 years with Lacoste making a final before that run and Cochet dealt with injury and was unable to play but came back to win the next year.

Nextgen all got rekt at Wimby this year right? So if you can master that, you will have less challenges. The 3 goats were hardly challenged on their way to the semis and 2 of them met for the title.

Nadal taking the next 3 French Opens is unlikely? Well, it’s not a given of course, but more likely than not I guess. Even if he will become 36 then, I would say only an injury could stop him.

Not that I like it though, but it is what it is.

Why are you Fedfans panicking so much?

RF still has the record AND he is still a slam contender. Rafa and Novak could drop off any year now.

Novak will never reach 20. Rafa? Not a given.\

And even if he does. You still have till June to celebrate the lead...

There's just something about keeping consecutive Slam streaks going that over 100 years of tennis history it just hasn't happened. Statistically one would argue Thiem keeps biting and that he should break through next 3 years but you also have Djokovic and yes, even a Zverev/Medvedev situation. I mean, Federer had not one but TWO chances for 6 straight and lost in 5 sets in each. IN HIS PRIME no less.

That would make it harder for federer. Not easier. So why exclude it?

Let us take a moment to appreciate the noble work of Richard Krajicek, Robin Söderling, and Stanislas Wawrinka. The giant killers who cut mega-streaks in the middle.

Quite honestly worth a whole video segment no? The Big 3 of Spoilers. Especially Krajicek spoiling Pete's 8. I will just always think had Nadal won in 09 he loses in 2011, 2012 or 2013 so he caps at 8 for me.

2012? That was his clay peak (along with 08), where it took GOATing Peakovic to take 1 set off him all tournament. No way he loses in 2012 ROFLMAO.
I could see Rafa losing 2011 or 2013 though, and he was even more vulnerable in 2014.

Regardless, Söderling, Krajicek, and Wawrinka all delivered some of the most breathtaking performances of all time, and went on from there to become elite players themselves.

You're right about 2012 in terms of his form. I'm just thinking how the streak would play with him mentally. There are 2 things I notice happening the longer streaks go. The player maintaining them starts to have more lapses due to overconfidence and close rivals are more determined to play freely because if they lose nobody is going to criticize them really. I think this would have affect Nadal like everyone before him once he got to 6, 7, 8 in a row.

But Nadal isn’t the guy who sticks to those historical habits. He has proven again and again that on clay he is something else.

I agree about the possibility of a loss though, but surely Medvedev cannot be mentioned alongside Zverev here. Zverev is an absolute joke at the top of the game and clearly won’t be a threat for a Rafa loss or a Slam title at all. I have no idea why he is still that overrated. He is clearly on his way down, and one Shanghai final won’t make a difference. His game can always totally crumble at any moment, and even at his best he had to rely on very open draws to win some Masters.

I agree with you that it shouldn't be ruled out and that it would be utterly dreadful if it happened (Nadal winning a match is always a bad thing). But I don't think it is more likely than not.

Lol they have been panicking since Wimbledon 2008, you expect them to not be insecure now?

Must have been some slight worries as early as Wimbledon 2007, when, despite having a significant age disadvantage, Nadal pushed Federer far closer than Federer had pushed Nadal in three years at Roland Garros. Moreover, Wimbledon 2007 was one of the Humble Bull's early moral victories. ;)

I expect them to take defeat like men. Or women, or girls, or turtles, or whatever.

Or to just realize RF has been so lucky so far, why wouldn't he keep the record...

The power of the Rolex shall overcome all adversity.

I mean, there was this guy named Borg who stopped at 4 straight at 26. If not for changing equipment and his mental burnout who the hell knows.

All I can say is it's statistically unlikely he wins 3 consecutive French titles from here. That's all.

Same for Freddy lol.

As for Novak never reaching 20? Why not? He can still go on and win AO twice and perhaps one USO along with a Wimby and you've your 20 major titles.

Federer winning another Slam sounds delusional especially after the Great Choke. For all we know, you might be right though. The Slam race is predictably unpredictable.

That makes it seem so easy, to win 4 slams.

I don't expect any more 3-slam seasons from any of the Big 3. IS FINNISH.

RF will never retire. He'll be ranked 11 in 2026 with still a chance at vulturing slams when Medvedevious is injured. And in 2034 he'll be vulturing slams when Sinner retires.

Besides, the Medvedevious Age is here.
