Solinco Outlast

Any fresh reviews out there? My local shop has the 16 and 16L in stock and I'm thinking of trying it out. I just strung my PS97S with a full bed of Volkl Cyclone Tour 16 this Monday and had a malfunction within the first 30 minutes of playing with it. I don't believe he double knotted a tie off because I highly doubt I broke the string that soon. He's going to make it right and restring but I'd have to order a new pack from TW. I like the look of red poly in my racquet and am curious to see how Outlast hits.

Did you break it near the frame? Stiff polys can break fairly easily near outer edges of the hoop.

Yep - broke extremely close to the top of the frame. I was under the impression that Cyclone Tour was one of the softer poly's out there. That's the first time I've broke a poly and it happened after 30 minutes. I'm not impressed and won't be buying any more Cyclone Tour. It was strung at a reasonable 52 pounds.

I really liked Cyclone Tour, what little I got to hit with it. It's loaded with power though. Defensive blocks were sailing long. I can only imagine volley's were going to be hard to control.

make sure you check the grommets out, just it case they received some damage...
how long have you been seeing/ using this alleged stringer?

I've been using him since the beginning of the year. He's probably strung 10 or more racquets so far and I've never had a problem up until now. He uses a Gamma 8900 ELS Stringer. It may very well be the grommets on that particular racquet.

My son strung a racquet for a co-worker (Gamma Moto Soft in a APD). He broke the string on his second session. I looked at the broken string and saw that there was a deep scrape on the outside of the racquet where the strings would lie on the grommet. The strings broke right there at 12 o'clock. I cleaned the area and restrung the racquet for him and let him know of what I thought was the issue. No issue ever since.

We just put Cyclone Tour 17 w/OGSM17 hybrid. My son hit with it Tuesday. He'll hit with it today. I'll hit with it after his class. Now, I'm not a hard hitter. But my son can put a bit of pace on the ball. Plus we play with a PS97LS which eats strings. I'm really digging the red/black strings on a blacked out frame.

Outlast is great as a cross in a gut hybrid. The few times I utilized my reel for a full bed in anything other than a hybrid, or full bed in a 18x20 Prestige Mid, it sucked

Outlast is the ultimate cross string for any hybrid (poly/poly, multi/poly, gut/poly). But in full bed it isn't anything amazing. If you want red strings do T1 firewire with outlast crosses.

I played with a full bed of Outlast 18 at 50 pounds last night. I thought it was a very soft and low powered poly. Spin was okay but not it's strong suit. It was very soft on the arm. I'm going to stick with it for now and see how long it lasts. You definitely have to generate your own power. Even when I really made a point to speed up my racquet I couldn't get a heavy ball out of it. I loved it on my serve though and all in all played very well with it.

I've used the 1.20 and the 1.15 in my signature racquet.

The 1.20 was @44 first, then @48/46. I didn't keep it in @44 for long, but it seemed to hit well with a high trajectory for me. I probably could have gotten used to it pretty easily if I wanted to go that way. @48/46, It played with great comfort and control. The spin seemed good too, but that's not a high priority for me. The drawback for the 1.20 is that it froze up and died a little quicker than I expected it to. It's not expensive, so it might be worth it for someone who strings.

The 1.15 was very short lived. I may have strung it too tight @49, but it felt very comfortable during its short life. It had a good size sweet spot and a plush feel. If I try it again, I'm thinking I would try 47 or 48/47.

Something peculiar about the string's feel is that I noticed some rubbing between the strings. Whether or not this is a good thing would be a matter of preference. I think that if someone found this string to feel stiff and cheap, they probably strung it a few pounds too tight.

I'd have a hard time ever calling Oulast stiff and cheap. It's the softest poly string I've ever played with and I have it strung at 50. Extremely control oriented.

Yonex Poly Tour Fire is a great cross string and not too bad in a full bed. I am writing about this string because it is RED.

I've logged about 5 hours with a full bed of Outlast 18 at 50 pounds. The tension hasn't dropped much and I'm still liking the performance. My one con is the low power aspect. I just can't hit a heavy ball with this string. The spin potential is average at best. I'm thinking of putting Hyper G 17 in the mains and Outlast in the crosses. Possibly Tour Bite mains and Outlast crosses. I'd like to increase power and spin.

Tour Bite 17 mains with Outlast 18 crosses at 50 each. I'm in heaven. No pun intended. This is an awesome blend of power, control, spin, and comfort.

On the bright side, if the Cyclone Tour didn't break in 30 min, it would have went dead about an hour or two after that. It's a top 5 string for me but it just dies soooo fast.

I have a set of Outlast I'm waiting to try. Give Revolution a shot, it's my #1 right now.

sounds like a very nice setup. Your head starts spinning when you get into the hybrid poly possibilities and combinations but a textured mains/soft cross sounds like it could work out very well ( @kiteboard and his Zo Verve/ Big Ace Micro that I promise I will try one day:D)

I am confused why the tennis warehouse string performance database shows outlast 16g having significantly higher tension loss than 18g. Does this seem accurate?
