First they steal the football team, now this

Stanford enacted a policy not to let corporations sponsor any events inside the campus. Maybe they went too far since this is not a permanent building or center named for the company. But it is good that it is staying in the Bay Area.

Are you volunteering there ?

Or does that depend on whether you can "wiggle" a free lunch pass ?

@jaggy
Bank of the West tourney used to be in Oa30s@kland, not SF...

Not quite true. It actually started at the SF Civic Auditorium in 1971. Saw Chrissie, Billie Jean, V Wade and Evonne Goolagong there. In Oakland from '79 to the mid 90s. First saw Martina Hingis there (in '95, I believe).

Do they still have a pro tournament at Carlsbad?

No. There used to be a WTA tournament at La Costa. Then it stopped. Then a smaller one ran for a couple of years at the Aviary close to the old place. I have volunteered at that. Now the owner has moved it to Hawaii as the Hawaiian Open.
