Laver Cup to San Francisco in '25

I mean it's just an exhibition, not sure why everyone is hating on LC so much. Davis Cup has been completely ruined now with the elimination of the home and away format, I honestly prefer to watch LC now.

Because it's build by Federer single handedly.

Nice try, the article is nothing more than clickbait. Tony Godsick said the The Laver Cup is always looking for host sites and was never connected by anyone in Saudi Arabia.
I wonder why you skipped these sentences :

¤¤ Talking about the possibility of hosting the Laver Cup in Saudi, he [Tom Godsick] suggested that it can be done one day and that it is not so far. In an interview, the tournament boss, Tom [Godsick] said, “One day the Laver Cup could be held in Saudi Arabia.” /---/ We rotate between European cities and cities in the rest of the world. I expect Saudi Arabia will be part of this discussion at some point in the future. ¤¤

Again nice try, there has be an ACTUAL discussion between both parties first. So much desperation for Laver Cup to be seen a mere money grab because of Federer. So sad.

The 2025 edition of the Laver Cup will be held in San Francisco at the home of the Golden State Warriors, tournament organizers said Thursday.

It marks the first time the three-day team tournament, pitting six top men's players from Europe against six of their counterparts from the rest of the world, will be held on the U.S. West Coast.

Next year's Laver Cup, which will mark the eighth edition of the event co-created by Roger Federer and honoring tennis great Rod Laver, will be held Sept. 19-21.

"Bay Area fans will love the way the Laver Cup brings together the world's top players as teammates," Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion who helped Team Europe win three Laver Cup titles, said in a news release. "They will get to see them putting aside their rivalries and sitting courtside together cheering each other on. This doesn't exist anywhere else."

This year's Laver Cup, where Team World will target a third consecutive victory, will be held Sept. 20-22 in Berlin.
Home of the Golden State Warriors and the 'Chef' Curry.

I can't imagine this event lasting for too many more years.
I think it only works because RF promotes the event. Once he's not bankable any longer and, or people start forget about him, the Laver Cup will disappear.

It was broadcasted over the weekend, I watched on and off. Found it pleasant at best but it's nothing more than a super exo. You can feel that business is everywhere. At least teams, captains and RF do the job well (and I'm sure they get tons of money for this).

Rolex, UBS and Mercedes are sponsors. The majors are firmly behind the event.

Tennis needs figureheads like RF and in turn he will leverage his strengths to take this event from strength to strength.

Players make lot of money for 3 days and hence will be well attended. The trick was to get great sponsors and market event well. Both have been done exceedingly well.

And the format is fun and different . And finally tribute to the legends from the young ones .

It is the “showcase” event of the year , an annual celebration of sport !

Singapore should make an ATP 1000 tournament during the week of Laver Cup to make all the top players play the new ATP 1000 instead of Laver Cup.

lavercup.com isn't selling tickets for San Francisco but if you go to places like Stubhub you can see a bunch of tickets already on sale. Are these legit tickets? How did these people already buy tickets?

San Francisco? They couldn't have picked a worse place if they wanted to be on the west coast.

Why not somewhere in South America. Isn't the idea to host between Europe and the world and try to bring high profile players to places that don't often get them, to help grow the sport?

I am thinking they are trying places that are comfortable for USA players to be there and also travel to Asia swing soon after the event ends.

While you're talking about San Francisco, does anyone remember the simi-historic "Cow Palace" which was (or is)
twenty minutes south of the city? I don't know what's happening there now, but I remember it as a large building
where once a year around October, they showed the newest yearly Warren Miller ski movie to big happy crowds.
How delusional it is now to talk about happy times, when helpless Gaza is being completely and utterly destroyed.

Why is it the worst place?

The bay area probably has the biggest tennis community except for LA. And LA has Indian Springs. It is also home to the biggest tech companies in the world and has some very wealthy communities that play tennis. This matters if you want to want to have some wealthy benefactor down the road bring a big tournament back to the bay area a la Larry Ellison and Indian Springs. Professional sports here have a large following from the Golden State Warriors (the arena where they will be playing), 49ers, and Giants.

As to your question about why not in an emerging economy, it's likely because this is not owned and run by the ITF. It's an exhibition match and players don't earn points. The way to maximize profits (and also be able to pay players the most for appearance fees) is to be located in the most expensive markets in the Americas or Europe. The bay area has the most wealthy people in the region with the exception of NYC area and so they will be able to charge extremely high ticket prices.

Why do you hate Laver ? Because he has 2 grand slams and he is the GOAT ??
Lol, Laver Cup is not for Laver. All of the money go to Federer.

If they want to pay respect to Laver, these players should stop the useless and ridiculously expensive hit and giggle exho, and instead work their butts off to achieve CYGS at least once in their life.

So your hate Federer because he makes money , organizing a tribute to past legends ?

Nope, Federer makes these players to get even more tired so they can't achieve CYGS. Laver Cup is disrespecting tennis. They pay these players a lot of money compared to ATP Chengdu or ATP Hangzhou players. ATP calendar is already too full. Laver Cup is making fun of tennis. Federer should instead use his money to help the struggling lower ranked players, and who knows these struggling players can win a Slam or even CYGS. But no, Federer and Nadal disagree with the idea of giving more money to lower ranked players because they just want to aggrandize themselves.

Laver Cup is like a party of the elites where they get paid too much money for playing, drink champagne and get drunk after winning. It's a disrespect to the other ATP tournaments. It's mocking the ATP Tour.

Why should Federer not organize a business venture involving top players and in the process provide a share of the money to top players , past legends and Rod Laver himself , all the while creating a great product that is entertaining for the public ??

Lol the money go to the top and the elite chosen few. It's elitism. Tennis should be for the people, not for the riches. Most people can't afford the ticket.

laver Cup is part of ATP

Those moaning about Laver are likely just Serbian IP address bots

Those moaning about Chase Center being in SF actually dont know SF

I commute to Chase 4 days a week to work for the Warriors, Mission Bay is one of the newest and safest spots in SF. One block from SFPD HQ

You have no clue. I live where Rod Laver is from. I'm ashamed that Rod Laver is being disrespected with elitism and drunkenness winning party. And these players can't even win CYGS. Winning CYGS is the way to pay respect to Rod Laver.

Players who win CYGS are the ones who should be given the Laver Cup.

Yet only chosen few can play and watch it. It's not a normal ATP tournament where players play qualifying matches and don't get paid million to just turn up.

This is like YEC. Only top ranked players who play an attractive brand of tennis are selected

Can confirm that once sketch area is quite safe. Walked a mile from Oracle to a bit south of Chase after the Green Day show Friday to where we parked.

11:30 at night and no worries.

Hey man, Im all down for Aus to get the LC. No need to disparage chase center, not their fault they got chosen

Wow, Kokkinakis YEC lol. Shapo and Opelka lololol YEC.

So, you will complain if they choose top players . You will complain if players are top 20 from South America or players who represent Australia . You will complain if they choose players who have the best serve on planet

Basically you want the event torn down because Federer has a part to play in it

It's not a YEC quality tournament, it's a joke and useless tournament. It's not a tournament at all.

It's not good for the players' education either. In normal ATP tournaments players have to really qualify or play qualifying round to get in. In Laver Cup any player can just get in and not only that, they get to paid millions to just play. It's like bribery and it's corrupt. It's sending the wrong message to tennis.

If it is a useless tournament, why is it so well attended ?

Why do top players play participate ?

Long ago, (so don't worry now), I parked my convertible Alfa overnight two blocks from the Golden Gate Tennis Club.
The next morning, I found that someone stole the car tape player. I figured, "What more could go wrong?"
The second morning, I found that the stupid jerk cut a hole in the top, and threw in a raw egg!
Apparently he was dissatisfied with my tape player? I wish that I had planted a secret bomb in it, like in Lebanon.

I didn’t realize they were still doing this team tournament Exo.
Exhibitions dont’s count in atp match history - the laver cup does. Look up Federer vs Kyrgios on the atp site - you can see their laver cup matches are included
