what do you do when someone criticizes your strokes but you feel like there was nothing wrong with it?

I ignore it. I prefer to tell people what they are doing right and try to add to their game as opposed to treating them like they're chumps.

Be confident in your own feelings.

Having said that, I would base my reaction, somewhat, upon who made the remark.

If it was a well respected tennis instructor/teaching pro, I might be inclined to accept the remark- even ask for some sugestion.

If it was just some guy hanging out, I would think about it for 2 seconds, come to my own opinion and shrug it off it. Lots of people say lots of things, most of it is pretty worthless.

I ignore idiots that try to critic my strokes, especially when they are weaker players...

I love how weaker try to give me advise about something that they can't even hit... first know what you're talking about before critiquing

You bagel him... then you taunt him for a few weeks

Maybe he is right... keep an eye out next time you play... see if your strokes do get worse... no harm in it...

you can't really get better unless you admit you dont know much, which these armchair coaches can't. just ignore them, they'll only suck you into their whirlpool of <fecal matter>.

I think if they're better than you, you should consider the tips they provide to you. You should always consider tips, its whether you decide to use them.

My friend, not as good as me sometimes gives me tips (hes taken lessons and I haven't), so I always consider them.

Are you happy with your game and how you play, are you winning, if you answered yes to all of these questions then tell said person to F-OFF! And worry about themselves.

You will only progress when you are ready, look at a lot of the top pros, don't tell me that all of their strokes are textbook through out a match many pros have crap stokes but are some how pros, so think that one over.

It depends on who the one criticizing my game is. If it's a division I tennis coach or a 5.5 racquet club pro, I'm going to take it into serious consideration. If it's someone around my level, I might think about it. Often enough, I find myself falling into bad habbits and not noticing it. Someone pointing it out can wake me up to it. Lower players with poor strokes, I quickly dismiss. If they can't hit the ball right, how are they going to help me?

In my experience, stronger players never offer unsolicited critique/instruction. Weaker players sometimes do and I made a curious observation that the stroke they criticize is usually the one that they themselves have trouble with. So in this unwanted coaching situation just think of him as using you as a medium to communicate with himself about his lousy strokes. Anyone agree?

I had a doubles player that used to try and instruct me. The first time we played singles I was thinking, "Great... I he wins this match I'll never hear the end of it..."

That gave me such fierce motivation that I came back from way behind to win. He never made a comment again.
