Synthetic Gut users what's the best thin synthetic gut? Gosen OG Sheep 18, yonex dynawire 16L, Gamma 18g?

Does Kirschbaum make an 17g? I'm fine with no name brand synthetic gut. I find I get a lot more control with syn gut, it's cheaper, and on my extended racket I find it's a lot lighter than poly and swings through the air much faster.

@2ndServe - it depends on what you prefer in a synthetic gut. Gosen GOSM and Prince SGD (SyntheticGut Duraflex) are both on the stiffer end of the syngut spectrum. Prince Original Synthetic Gut and Kirschbaum are on the softer side. I am current using Dunlop S-Gut which is softer than what I was using, Gosen OGSM. But it breaks faster as well.

-there are SOFT syn.guts and HARD syn.guts
-gosen.ogsm is on the softer side
-gamma.symgut.wearguard is on the hard side, same as Prince.syn,gut.duraflex (PSGD)
-i think yonex.dynawire is also on the HARD side (i tried 1pack a last year, i think)

-new head.syn.gut is softer
-babolat also has a soft version

-gamma is mostly on the HARD side, but they could have soft stuff also, IDK

-tecnifiber use to have the most buttery syn.gut arround,(SOFTest) LONG time ago
-im not sure what they have now

OGSM Super has a very predictable and comfortable (IME) response in a FB. If you want a similar feel but a little more power and spin, I recommend AK Pro (non-cx) if you can find it.

How is Kirschbaum syn for durability?
Average... but it's my favorite syn. gut (SG) under the sun. Although I string at home and durability with any string isn't really a high priority for me, the service life I get with this string is fine.

Feel is a subjective issue, but the combo of plushness with enough of a connected feel that I get with this string suits me just right. I'll drop tension by 4-5 lbs. when I have to play outdoors in the cold, but I can tension the 16 ga. at 57-58 lbs. (in my 98" Volkls with 16x19 patterns) in the warmer months and it's still soft enough for me to slug with it every day.

I haven't seen any 17 ga. SG from Kirschbaum lately, so I'm keeping a reel of Babolat 17 handy for when I need a thinner SG. In fact, I just picked up a pair of 18x20 Dunlop CX-200's from a TT seller and my Babolat 17 will go into those for my first trials. There might be some K-baum 17 available from sources in Europe, but I generally just order from sources 'round here.

I think that I found Kirschbaum's SG after my supply of Tecnifibre dried up, but I used to love that Tecnifibre SG, too. The Kirschbaum SG turned out to have that same buttery soft personality and I loved it, but then that stuff disappeared, too o_O I decided to have another go with T-fibre SG when new reels showed up at an online store, but the new version of the T-fibre SG was awful - much more clunky and harsh than their string from several years ago. I might have thrown away most of that reel after it turned out to be so much worse than the original stuff.

While Forten Sweet is a little too soft for me, the K-baum SG is fine. I just wish I could get more of the 17 ga. version.

Opinions vary, but I can say that I've found Gosen OG Sheep Micro to play significantly more stiff than other syn. guts, including Kirschbaum. The 16 ga. OGSM is rather durable and seems to hold up fine as a cross in a simple poly hybrid, but it's too stiff for me to use in my own frames, even if I drop tension by a few lbs. The 17 ga. version can sometimes work for me, but I need to tension it a few lbs. lower than a softer option of the same gauge. That's just me.

This statement is having me question my perception (or maybe your perception) of reality. Have tried many synguts and OGSM is one of the stiffer ones for me, the white version even more so.

When is the last time you tried it?

-you could be right, i could be wrong ! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-its been a minute since i played it
-but i just strung a clients racquet with it ,(a couple days ago)
-it plays nice and comfortable to me!! from what i recall/remember
-i like it better than prince.sg.duraflex and/or gamma.s.g.wearguard, whihc i consider to be on the harder side
-i also like/d forten.sweet, and think forten is much softer than OGSM

-harder feeling syn.guts i would consider to be HEAD.FXP and such, "LONG durable syn.gut options"

i used micro super 16, which is supposed to be stiffer than regular micro, and found it very comfy, and i am pretty sensitive. I have only used super, though, so maybe non super is actually harsher feeling. . maybe the string is racquet sensitive

All synthetic gut I have tried is comfortable... Just never heard anyone say OGSM was a softer synthetic gut. I felt it is was in the same range as PSGD.

Possible, never tried it. Probably was removed from the market for a reason.

Head FXP is still sold at TW and is hybrid type of multi string with poly filaments. Actually a pretty nice string which i thought had really good feel and pocketing.
  • Composition: Multifilament - polyamid 6 with FiberGEL filament and polyamide / polyester fiber outerwrap

@PurcellPower Great find ... Looks like an interesting string

It is decent if you want a durable synthetic/multi type option, i was just replying to the statement that it was removed from the market for being harsh, which it was not discontinued and is not what i would call "harsh".
It is actually really good with cream as a cross if someone prefers hybrids.

-head.FXP is being removed from the market
-its sh*t string, its hard and moves around like all syn.guts
-its awful feeling stuff (n) (n)
-but it did last longer than your standard syn.gut
-i think "gamma" had some durable stuff like that, but it also felt like crap
-i tried a few, searching for durability and playability and came across a few of these
-im glad i never got hooked on syn.gut, i rather play polys..

-but ill throw some syn.gut on "tight pattern rackets(w.ultra.tour/h.grav.pro etc..) from time to time
