I think that did come into play. But playing doubles on your off day is just like practicing on your off day. Also at age 20 it is completely different then being 30+. But also men playing best of 5 is a different animal. You can't physically play both at a high level.
so she decided to skip doubles this time on Wimbledon :) coincidence ?

My 1st outing i am impressed so far....335 grams with lux 4 g , 2 overgrips, grip collar and dampener...
Powerful, spinny, controled... similar racket to the 360+ Speed.. but better in all areas... especially with feel..

How is the stiffness of the racquet?

Can you compare it to other models you have experience with?

4G is pretty unforgiving ...

I suspect her name wasn't picked to win this year... typically the winner is decided before the tournament is started..

Got to see an Iga 298 at the zoo here in Houston while on vacation and hold it up to some of the other Tecnifibre racquets. Head shape and size, grommets line up exactly with a T-Fight 300. Not so with a Rebound which have a wider head. Given they already vary the beam through the whole T-Fight range, I got the impression the Iga 298 is just another variation in the T-Fight range with a Rebound paint job. Didn’t get to hit with it.

@A_Instead - Looking at the TWU power map specs, it is comparable to the Pure Drive in terms of stiffness. Does it play a lot softer? How would you compare it to the Pure Aero 2019?

Just coming off a month stint with the new Pure Drive and had to shelve it due to pain...
No issues with 298 IKA.. does not feel like 71.
To me.. feels 66 ish...

Pure Aero is not my style.. IKA plays nothing like the pa..

IKA more like blade with Power and easy swing..

I demoed from TW. Strung with triad. 1/4 grip is the only grip size available. It feels head heavy, more than the 319 swing weight listed. The racquet has excellent pop which reminded me of the t- fight XTC 305. I did not find this quality in the RS series of racquets.
Overall it seems to be a very solid racquet suitable for competitive play. My big take away was that the racquet has explosive pop.
I demoed it along side the head radical MP 2021 which seemed easier to play with but was hard to evaluate because it had a horrible string job with strings way out of position.

Agree..feels head heavy like the older blades v5..( I never tried the XTC 305)
But it swings easy..it's fast.. lower swing weight is nice.
Agree...it is very lively ..lux 4 g at 52 lbs
Very spinny...
Control is fine...
Just wish it didn't have the tecnifibre grip size and shape...

I believe the IGA 298 to be a slightly extended length racquet. When I compare it to other racquets I own it is slightly, but clearly, longer length wise.

Iga is clearly playing a considerably softer, heavier racket than this girly production rendition.

When she is not hitting all out there is not much depth/power compared to power-tweeners. Also very stable but not bouncy on volleys.

nice camera angle! Could be the string and tension regarding power lvl. Look at the 1:05 hit and crazy side spin the ball gets. You need a very responsive frame in order to curl the ball like that.

I want to respectfully disagree with the comment that the IGA 298 is a “girly production rendition.” As I stated in prior posts the racquet feels head heavy, an observation that A_Instead agreed with. Also I believe that it has a slightly extended length based on my comparison with other standard length racquets. My impression of the racquet is that it is geared to experienced intermediate to advanced players. During the talk tennis podcast, Michelle said she has been playing with it a lot, loves the racquet, and asked who the racquet was geared to?
I think that the racquet is geared to advanced players who want a lighter option. This is based on very limited experience,so far, but it does not feel to me at all like a beginners frame.
Call me naive, but if Iga does not actually play with this racquet I consider this fraudulent, far beyond the standard paint job / racquet endorsed by marketing. She will have compromised her own integrity as well as that of Tennis Warehouse, who featured her in their podcast discussing this racquet. The Tennis Watehouse product description states, “This modern player’s racquet is used
by WTA phenom Iga Swistek.” If in fact she does not use this racquet, I would ask Tennis Warehouse to come out and renounce their support for the marketing of this racquet. Thank you.

TW's site says 'Pros Endorsing/Using this racquet' which means they may be endorsing and/or using the racquet. I don't see anywhere it explicitly says Iga plays with it. Either way it doesn't bother me if she doesn't. If it plays great... who cares. I might have my interest piqued if a player plays or endorses a racquet, but at that end of the day I play with whatever works for me. I don't understand getting so bent out of shape about it. And to expect TW to renounce it is pretty laughable... if they did that they'd have to just kiss the TF product line goodbye. Your issue should be with TF not the middle man selling it as most of the marketing, etc. they do probably has to be approved. There are always a lot of mktg $$$ associated with all of these products, how they present them, promotions, podcasts, etc.

The IGA 298 pop immediately reminded me of the 305 XTC. The 300 XTC felt more flexible in a bad way. My experience was that the 300 XTC got pushed around. I actually made a mistake and purchased the 300 XTC thinking it would be like a lighter 305 XTC, and it did not work out well. The 305 XTC felt great when I demoed it,numerous times, but I was weary that the specs were not optimal for me. Mark Boone actually lists the XTC 305 in his top 3. After I wrote my post that IGA 298 pop reminded me of XTC 305 pop, I saw that product description for IGA 298 says it incorporates XTC. So maybe there are are some similarities.

will this racket sales plummet now that Iga lost at the french open ? to a mediocre player
is her old Prince racket truly better ? is that why she lost this year ?

Just my feeling and guess, where I think she may possibly be struggling with this racquet. In her prior first match at Eastborne with Watson she looked very emotional and relieved to have won it like her overall confidence is on the edge with each tournament currenlty. If the racquet is giving her unnecessary struggles for consistency, then imo, she should have never switched. Like now, she just got bageled in the 2nd set by Kasatkina with too many UE's. Maybe she was that far more used to making her shots with the old prince racquet. The racquet engineers can't always make a custom new model work for an endorsing player.

they say it takes 3-6 months minimum for touring pros to get used to brand new racket especially to win in the tour

I recall hearing that and would agree. If I'm not mistaken she's already been with this newer racquet for about six months, so my 2c as a new fan, I'm worried about it for her.

The IGA 298 is not for me as the 98 inch head size and what I believe to be a slightly extended length do not fit my game. I think the prince 290 is a much better racquet. In the technifibre line I think the tf 40 305 is much more solid in every area.
For reference my favorite frame for several years is the head gravity mp.

It's a good one actually...one of the better Tecnifibre to date..
that's a bold statement :) Tecnifibre have made some amazing racquets in the past. For example Verdasco was a beast with Tecnifibre ! Also recently they are doing a great job too ! TF40 and RS305...TF40 is Chris racquet of choice and he like it more than Head Speed Pro 360+ (which is an amazing racquet already). RS305 is foam filled and probably the only serious 18x19 racquet on the market right now :) Portfolio is strong

What's the best TF comparison to the Speed MP?

It does have a special feel...and it does have really good power...and the control is there to support the power..
And it plays bigger than it's 98 inch head size..

In the first place if TF made IGA 298 with a stiffness of let’s say 66 it would be in 99% the same racquet as RS 300… of course the layup may be different and it may play differently but still it would be having two almost identical racquets in the market judging by the parameters.
The second thing is I would be very careful with calling a racquet to cause health issues considering probably half of ameteurs play with too heavy racquet and part of them arming the ball all the time. Unless you know how the person saying these things plays… it’s a lottery.

I'm intrigued by this racquet. Has anyone tried modding it like adding a leather grip to make it heavier and more stable?

Someone should do a comparative review of this racquet with her previous Prince TT 100(290) that she reportedly used in near stock form, with just a small addition of lead to the hoop. The TT100(290) is an excellent racquet in its own right and also great as a platform stick. I can't imagine the TF Iga 298 plays that differently given the success Iga had with her previous Prince. One does not change a winning game plan.

Finally reviewed the frame. It's a must try for all Speed MP users. @edelp :)
I am keeping it for my wife.

wow, still struggling to find the 305 RS and now this one should be similar to my go to frame, grrr. Had expected or "feared" that, but I would like to test it and compare it both to the speed mp 360 i have and the old prince 100t that I kept in the collection and she was using before.
thanks man :)

TF T-Rebound Iga 298 review
(With Ice Code 1.30mm)

IMG_20211101_122039.jpg

IMG_20211101_121348.jpg

My review (Vcore Pro 97 HD and Multifeel 1.30mm)
-Exceptionally comfy even with a stiff string like Ice Code
-Really plush feeling with more feel than VDM, but also acts like a stiffer frame would with shots
-Less depth on FH but more height on the FH (I feel like this could be a multi vs poly issue, but the deadly part of my FH is that it clips the net and only arcs up low
-Much more stable on off-centre hits but neither are uncomfortable to play with
-Feels like the dampening is in the hoop not the handle like VCP HD
-Easier to hit on the run
-More HH balance doesn't stop it being a problem
-Weight feels extra polarised at tip of the frame and at the bottom of the handle and tip so it feels naturally seems to move itself
-Pleasantly surprised and way better than the TF40
-Each shot feels like it uses less energy to hit but that could be a swingweight thing
-Not a switch because I can't hit the touch shots I rely on as nicely with the Iga 298 (it would come in time I'm sure, the Iga is a nice frame but not nice enough to warrant switching to because of the downsides to the FH).

Tester B (ProStaff K95 18x20 Team and PolyTour Pro 1.25mm)
-Iga has much more pop on BH
-Still have to generate his own power
-Easier to hit with the Iga
-Launch angle is higher but fixable with extra topspin
-Much much easier on "the fingers" even though it's Ice Code 1.30mm vs PTP 1.25mm
-He's switching because the PS K95T "hurts"

Tester C (Juice 100S and syngut)
-Lower power than Juice 100S but more precise
-It's very "interesting" but not a switch for her as it lacks the pop and pace she requires

Tester D (Ezone 98 2017 and Velocity 1.30mm)
-Found the Iga to be overly launchy and powerful
-Complained that the Iga was hard to retrieve low balls with
-Explained it as not having enough precision to warrant using but also not powerful enough to justify the dropoff in precision

Conclusion:
From my own playing experience I feel like the Iga 298 is probably the nicest playing singles stick that you can find. It's market seems to be where the Yonex Ezone 98 is, but manages to dampen vibrations in a way that doesn't reduce feel as much as the Ezone 98 2020. The dampening is outstanding. I have a sensitive arm and I was fine with the Iga being strung with Ice Code. That's amazing. I think that foam filling and the polarised weight distribution is where the Iga 298 shines, blocking out the unwanted vibrations without reducing feel too much or a feeling of brassiness.

If Tecnifibre release a 2.0 of this frame, I feel like it needs a trapdoor in case someone else is thrown by the more HH balance of the Iga 298 and wants to counterbalance it.
