Tennis Channel and Youtube TV...Ugh!

Not sure if this is right forum to publish this...but here goes.

So bummed at Youtube TV dropped tennis channel. Have loved Youtube TV until now...now, not so sure.
Liked Youtube TV because it had a lot of sports channels as well as had the local channels. Other streaming services that may have tennis channel now do not have local channels I believe.

So, question is do I switch to another streaming service? Or pay for Tennis Channel plus? How does that work? Do we just watch on the tennis channel app on the TV then?

Thanks in advance...

Question about tennis Channel plus subscription then...is one able to watch the regular grand slams and big matches on it? Or do you just watch on ESPN?

I think ESPN for the slams although I think the French Open is still Tennis Channel. I think ESPN3 and ESPN+ still stream all the matches. But ESPN+ has a $5 a month subscription cost.

ok then....didn't think about ESPN3/ESPN+. which would be a better option? ESPN3/ESPN+ at $60 annually? or tennis channel Plus at ~$100?

It depends. If you are only interested in the majors (excluding the French Open), then ESPN+ is the best option. If you want to watch more tennis (French Open plus all of the other non major tourneys) then you'll want tennis channel plus. I wouldn't fork out $60 for a yearly membership to ESPN+ solely for tennis. You can pay for it monthly during the majors and then cancel it when they're done. ESPN+ is $5.99 monthly.

Also just to clarify....ESPN3 is a free streaming service and will play some of the matches during the majors. You'll need to add ESPN+ if you want access to all of the matches (live and replay).

No Tennis Channel Plus does not allow you to watch regular Tennis Channel. Tennis Channel Plus basically has some (not a lot) of old matches and old TC broadcast replays. In my opinion it is worthless except for as noted the French open. If the thinking is one can buy TC+ and get TC with it then this is not the case.

Looks like Tennis Channel owner, Sinclair Broadcasting, is going to incorporate Tennis Channel into its sports betting efforts in some way. I wonder how long it will be before Tennis Channel is only offered through some unique Sinclair specific service? When I canceled Youtube TV yesterday and signed up with another service that lists having Tennis Channel this service assured me that they still had Tennis Channel. I am wondering for how long they will still have it?

I was thinking the same thing. The streaming services that offer the Tennis Channel are pretty thin.

When we had cable the vendors that offered Tennis Channel were also getting thinner and thinner.

It reminds me of a few years back I had been to a party and came home on a Saturday night during the middle weekend of the US Open and flipped on the Tennis Channel.
Again I highlight this was the middle weekend of the US Open. I grabbed a beer, one of several that night, and sat down. The TV did that fuzzy lost signal thing and up came a horse race with the guys in those chariot things making the final turn down the home stretch. I double and triple checked the channel and I couldn't figure out if I had one too many or what (imagine shaking the cob webs out) and then I looked at the time and it was 12:03AM.

My cable provider had dropped the Tennis Channel and replaced it with the Horse Racing Channel on the middle weekend of the US Open!

Ok - so it sounds like ESPN+ would be a better option. Do they carry tournaments outside the slams? I don't need to see the small tournaments, but would like to see IW, Miami, etc...basically the Masters 1000s...

Alright then...Thanks for everyone's input. I guess the strategy will be to watch ESPN+ for the Australian Open and the spring and hope TC comes to a streaming service? What are other non-cable people doing? I looked at Sling and FuboTV and don't seem too interested...

I'll likely sign up for Tennis TV, which unfortunately doesn't show WTA events. While I'm not happy about the Youtube TV situation, in some ways I'm okay with it as I don't particularly like Sinclair, who are trying to be the American equivalent of Murdoch.

It is to bad that WTA tennis network did not get enough subscribers to be sustainable like Tennis TV(ATP) and they gave up with in a year time. Now they are stuck in no sorry for the pun (no man’s land) and now is depended on TC more then ever to stream WTA events especially in Canada and U.S. markets.

Isn't Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ package $12.99 per month - seems like a good deal, but could be a lot of content you don't want, and that price might only be for a few months before it goes up.

I love Youtube TV - great channel lineup and great interface. It's expensive, but I don't have it the whole year. I only subscribe some months, not others (very easy to stop and start). So, I'm bummed TC is no longer part of that lineup.

Ok - So what does ESPN+ offer tennis wise? Just outside courts during the first rounds of grand slams? But not Indian Wells, Miami or other Masters 1000s?

When I got ESPN+, lot of the courts that were on their did not have any coverage but had the match schedule but ended up with no coverage. I think the cable channels got it since I got a chance to use surf tennis during the U.S. Open and they had the coverage.

Ok - wanted to bring this up again. Still haven't made the switch from youtube TV because there wasn't much tennis going on. Fine with espn's coverage of AO, but want to be able to watch IW, Miami, etc. Should I do Tennis TV (but want to also watch WTA matches), or switch to FuboTV or Sling? Did anyone make the swtich to FuboTV or sling to get tennis channel? How are they? Are you able to get local channels with either?

I haven't switched from YTTV yet, probably won't. To get what I want on Sling I'd need to get both Blue & Orange. I might consider Fubo, but as with Sling I'd need to rely on an antenna for locals. Not a big deal, but I'm sure my wife wouldn't be happy.
I did subscribe to Tennis TV, which isn't bad, but I also would like to watch WTA matches. Also, they don't have the majors since those are owned by the big boys, and if I'm not mistaken are ITF events, not ATP. I don't miss the ads on Tennis Channel.

Any issues with Tennis TV...buffering, streaming quality, etc?

My understanding of FuboTV is that local channels are included...depends upon the market (looks like ours is on the list). Looks like there is a free 7 day trial, so may try it when IW starts. If it is good...then make the switch. If it sucks, easy to switch back. The unlimited DVR of YTTV is nice, but I do miss the weather channel too.

You know ATT Streaming is really working pretty well for us. I am pleasantly surprised. The the screen resolution seems to be better than what we were getting with Youtube.

Also, we spend a lot of time on the road at tournaments and with Youtube I was forces to share my location and with that then I would lose the tennis channel I normally get at home. We are on the road right now and while I did have to share where I was located I still got the Tennis Channel and was able to watch last night in the hotel room using my iPad.

Loved YTTV. Didn't I love the price hikes but the value was there. Then Fox Sports North and TC went bye bye. That was the sticking point for me.

Now using Plex for locals..cpu as DVR. We already had Hulu and Disney, so bundled in ESPN+ . I also decided for easier navigation and live coverage to use sling during the AO. Liking the set up and will cancel sling after the month.

Hoping by this summer there will be a simple way to watch the Twins. Now that we have locals and Hulu to cover basic shows, I don't plan on keeping a major service longer than a month at a time for now.

Let's say I miss an Australian Open match because it is on in the middle of the night.

Is there any service that lets you watch it the next day without having to record it.

What is the best low cost option here? Please advise.

If all these cable providers & streaming services are dropping the regular Tennis Channel, why don't they just offer it in on Tennis Channel Plus?

Makes no sense!?!?

I am bummed about YouTubeTV dropping The Tennis Channel. I am tired of these devices and channels spinning off this and that channel or starting "new channels" that you have to pay for. I got rid of Dish Network because they were doing that as well. Prices kept going up. I switched to Roku and got the YouTube TV part to watch the TV from. It really is not worth it to subscribe to The Tennis Channel. The shows they have on that channel are mostly fillers to keep it on 24 hours a day. The only real reason to have it was to watch the majors on it or a few other tournaments. Was not interesting to see some odd tournament featuring # 285 player in the world playing a wild card player that happened to get into that tournament. The stands, even prior to Covid would basically be empty except for maybe 30-50 people watching. So I am not going to pay for watching just a few tournaments. Sad they got rid of that channle on YouTubeTV though.
