Now that both Federer and Nadal have withdrawn there is no excuse not to support Djokovic in his quest for the Holy Grail: the mythical Grand Slam.

It would be an extraordinary finale to the Big 3 era.

It would be a great story for tennis.

These things don't happy very often (I've only seen it done once) so this might be your only chance to experience it.

It would put this year into the tennis history books, and after the misery of last year's Covid decimated season that would be a wonderful thing. Showing that tennis returned with a bang.

So come on Federer fans and fellow Nadal fans: although it means our guy won't end up as GOAT they will have had the honour of being part of an era that included the GOAT.

Let's all cheer Djokovic on to glory -for the good of the game!

Go Djoko!!!!

Yes, everyone should support Djoker and witness the history unfold on their TV screen

History will happen if a next gen wins too. Might even bring more long term fans to the sport.
nothing like a record breaking 21st as well first player on 3 surfaces to get CYGS...you are not a tennis fan unless you support da djoka at this years USO...even Fedal will root for Djo to carry the torch of the big 3 dominance

Well if he plays Tsits I will back Djoker. If your statement is true then there aren't many tennis fans.

Tennis fans should now support the next gen.

Now that the Big 3 are all well into the twilight of their careers (especially Federer and what looks to be Nadal), there is no excuse not to support the next gen in their quest to knock the old greats off their throne.

It would be an extraordinary beginning of a new era.

It would be a great story for tennis.

This thing hasn't happened in a very long time so we may finally get a chance to see it again.

It would put this year into the tennis history books as the season in which the Big 3 were finally toppled, and after the misery of last year's Covid decimated season that would be a wonderful thing. Showing that tennis returned with a bang.

So come on Federer fans and Nadal fans and Djokovic fans: although it means our guys won't break the Slam tie, they will have had the honour of being part of an era that included the GOAT.

Go Next Gen!!!!
Can't tell if serious...

and fakes injuries (e.g. his abdominal "tear" in AO 21) as pointed out by Carreno Busta.

Have not heard about PCB questioning Djoker. In any event, it is not PCB's nor any player's place to question an opponent's injury. Get on the court and play your match. The rules of tennis allow a certain number of time outs and toilet breaks. If an opponent takes one, use the 10 minutes of down time to stretch, rest, meditate or whatever.

Just play your damn match and don't whine about what the opponent does. Indeed, that is what a mentally strong player does.

Thank goodness you're coming round to my way of thinking.

All true tennis fans are always tennis fans first. That's why those who have Nadal or Federer as their favourite player should support Djokovic's attempt to seize the Grail.

Tennis needs new champions to take over from the Big 3. Aa a true tennis fan, it would be incredible to see Zverev, Medvedev or Tsitsipas winning their first Slam title.

A true Tennis fan will rue over the fact that the big 3 won slams from 2017 onwards.
A true Tennis fan would be upset that new champions (younger ones) did not emerge in 2017-2018 when Novak collapsed, older guys from the 2000s seized back to back 6 freaking slams @Spencer Gore until Novak returned for wimbledon.

Is this is not what a true fan should do then what should they do? Become a cheerleader for Novak ?

They can take over after the US Open.

Why are you desperately hoping that Djokovic doesn't achieve what would be an historic moment in the history of tennis? Do you hate him that much?

I am first and foremost a tennis fan and would like what is best for the sport. Tennis is in dire need of new faces.

Djokovic has already won everything he needed to and is possibly the GOAT now. At this point only his fans and Nadal/Federer haters would want him to keep on winning more and more.

So, which one are you?

I dont mind Novak winning more.
Provided he gets some good rivals who stretch him.
His French Open semi final win was a great win .... but the final disappointed with stefanos losing steam after 2-3 sets.

Do you normally hope sportsmen fail when they are trying to make history? The sort of history that has only happened three times at the pinnacle of the sport. The last time half a century ago.

I can understand why you would be supporting Federer or Nadal if they were playing in the tournament (even then I would be torn), but as they are not why wouldn't you want to see tennis history?

Why don't you want to see tennis history made with your own eyes? Do you really hate Djokovic that much?

I love Djokovic. But I love the sport of tennis more. It doesn't matter to me if Federer and Nadal are playing this tournament or not. As a real tennis fan, I want what the sport needs the most at this point. A new champion.

Why do you not want a new Slam winner? Do you really hate tennis or Federer/Nadal that much?

The choice at this tournament is between seeing a player win a Grand Slam which hasn't happened in over 50 years or seeing a new slam winner which last happened last year and will happen multiple times in the years to come.

Why do you want to see something that happened last year and will happen multiple times in the next decade rather than an historic event that last happened 52 years ago and that you may never see again?

Spencer, you're almost beginning to sound like a glory hunter now. If Djokovic wins the CYGS, fair play to him but it isn't something real tennis fans should be cheering for. We are in need of new champions to take over from the old guards. We need this weak era to end ASAP. That's in the best interest of the sport.

Let's keep it really simple so you don't keep squirming and trying to move the goalposts. Let's see if you can give an honest answer to a straightforward question.

Given that tennis fans can cheer for the new generation in a few months at the AO and forever afterwards at every slam, why should they not be cheering for Djokovic to win the Grand Slam next month?

There’s no desperate rush for the USO to be won by a young player. Djokovic winning the CYGS would be a piece of history we may never witness again. Makes no difference if the nextgen breakthrough here or at AO.

I already told you. Real tennis fans should be cheering for new champions to take over from the old guards instead of rooting for someone who's already won everything.

But I get, it's a huge thing for Djokovic fans and I certainly don't hold it against you for wanting it to happen. However, for those of us old tennis fans who have watched this sport for several decades, we want nothing more than tennis to have strong competition again.

Ah, I see. You think any 4 in a row is the Grand Slam. It isn't.

That's why you claimed Djokovic had won everything when real tennis fans know he hasn't.

Please carry on. I thought I was discussing the issue with someone who understood the game. My apologies. Entirely my fault for not realising earlier.

Nice try. Now show me where in my comment did I say 4 in a row is the same as CYGS?

Maybe you're right, I shouldn't bother myself trying to explain to a glory hunter what tennis really needs more right now. Fanboys and us old tennis fans will always have our differences, I guess.

How is OP a fanboy? Nadal is his favourite of the big 3.

It’s clear we have different priorities. Myself and OP want to see history being made. You prefer to see younger players win now to create more interest. I think it can wait another slam.

Nonsense. Djoker's breaks are strategically timed to throw opponents off their rhythm. No wonder Djoker is disliked by his opponents or the public no matter how many (weak era) GS he snags. Early on in his career, Djoko used to give up at the slightest indication he was losing; these days, it's more subtle (e.g. MTOs).

Could it be Djokovic's game just isn't pretty to look at when compared to Fedal? He also takes questionable MTOs and fakes injuries (e.g. his abdominal "tear" in AO 21) as pointed out by Carreno Busta. Federer or Nadal don't pull off such stunts. Last, I also doubt if Djoker has ever won a fan favorite or fair play award. All suggest he is not likeable.
Carreno Busta was just part of the Nadal Spanish mafia when he said this. None of these men are perfect. Nadal has been notorious for making even the server wait fro him long past the normal time allowed. Federer is not the guy you see who was put together by his marketing team. Djokovic seems to be the warmest of the three when meeting ordinary people based on what I have read. So what if he becomes emotional when he is not playing well.

I appreciated your honesty and level-headedness when evaluating things. An unusual attribute here :)
Thanks Tex. I'm afraid I'm not one for the Twitter style black and white, tribal approach. I've been watching tennis for a long time and always try to be honest. My favourite players over the years have been Borg, Agassi and Nadal, but I'm honest to admit in each case that there was a player who came along who had the beating of them in most instances. No point denying reality when it's staring you in the face, just to prove your tribal position is correct.
