i vite HW for #1. this is based on the one time i played against him and sappy at howard U courts. his serves were so hard that i could tell if they were in or out by looking at the pile of fuzz left on the court surface. placement is less acurate than PP though i think. i havent seen JRK serve. but really, i think MrHan takes the cake.

i changed my avatar from Sebastian to the White Wolf... not much different!

i vote HW in the summer on HdG courts with the fence he musta sprayed with wd-40. balls were flying right through the fence and into the creek.
but the cooling temps seem to have affected the "big unit" (nope... just sounds weird, n/m!).

I'm not going to celebrate so hard this time but........ Yeah I won. Topaz, I played with JJ again on court #2.

We actually ended playing against one of the guys from my Men's 3.5 team and his partner. She was pretty tall and good at the net for the most part.

We got off to a slow start. After about 10 deuces, I lost my serve. Next thing I know, we are down 0-4. I'm like - hell no! I'm not going down like this against a teammate. We get it moving and got to 4-5, but they served it out. 4-6

At that point I was smoking mad. Not trying to be nasty here, but I knew I was the better player on the court. So I represented the TWMAC and started poaching and hitting overheads. Ran like a mug and made gets on lobs. Gave them the ill grill and the "I'm dominating" body language. JJ stayed strong and consistent. We served up an bagel - 6-0. Like Dr. Dre says "Hell Yeah."

Got off to a good start in the second set - We were rolling. JJ had one bad service game where they pounded the ball at me, but we weren't going down. Her next service game, I switched up to the Australian formation again on JJ's serve against our female opponent and went two back against the guy. She netted the ball a few times and he hit a few short, slice backhand returns that let us up come to the net. We won that one to make it 5-2. With the female opponent serving we played some good points and won when they hit it long in a rally. 6-2.

Man, I would save myself a lot of trouble if I played better in the first set. Coming back in the second and third is a dangerous move. I'm thinking of playing more Auzzie formation on JJ's serve. Helps cut the cross court shot where they pick on my partner, as long as that person isn't effective DTL.

Nice job, dude. And don't you usually let down in the second set? This time you played tough when it counted - big improvement.

I love the Auzzie formation, especially in mixed. It's great for protecting a partner's weak side, and it virtually takes the other net person off the court - at our level, anyway. If you do it right, you're basically playing 2 on 1.

Again, nice work. Aggressive and smart play is hard to beat. Proud of you. :)

Ahhh, how very flattering of you. My picks would be (including DFs):

1. Hollywood (he likes that out-wide flat bomb, damn near unreturnable, especially indoors, can spin it in for a safe second serve)

2. PP (he takes second on reputation alone, although I haven't hit with/seen him since the Spring '07)

3. Vitaly (when he uses fresh demos from TW he can really crank it, also serves well when not refinishing his kitchen/bathroom/garage/roof/)
...
...

78. Dude with no arms or legs and holds the racket in his mouth to serve (tosses the ball by bouncing it off his forehead)
...
...
...
98. TheJRK (assuming the planets are properly aligned and recent cortisone shot still working)
...
100. Sappy

Gotta go with my former dubs partner, PP, on this one, when he gets a solid hit on a serve. There's nothing like the sound of PP's serve in the morning. It sounds like ... victory. :)

Then I'd put JRK and HW in a tie for second. HW is a bit more consistent and has more variety, but JRK's bullets hurt my eyes with their speed.

The Big Three are followed by TFM, JRS, Skunk, Schmad, Sappy and Lady Topaz.

Haven't returned real serves from Sup, Auzzie, Vitaly or anyone else in the group, so can't really rank them.

Just my opinion, naturally. It's all subjective.

Thanks Xisbum. Yeah, I'm starting to think the Auzzie formation is the way to go. Might have to start up this way next match. Actually funny think is, in dubs, I get hot second set. In singles, I cool down second set. Go figure.

My gosh, JRS, she's never going to let the rest of us partner with you now!!! ;)

Good job! Hope we get to play together next Tuesday, I changed my availability to match up with you.

LOL! Yeah, I guess JJ likes getting a W or two. I keep telling her to go for her volleys and eventually she starts hitting them. If JJ plays next Tuesday, I'll be fair and switch partners in the middle of the match. There's only so much JRS to go around. ;)

I'm down with playing Topaz. You might have to arm wrestle JJ for it though.

Yeah I can probably play on Thursday.

They are Russians, and apparently awful bosses. I overheard the stringer complaining to customers about how much he gets paid the other day.

Part of me wants to demo, and part of me wants to go crazy with lead on my donnays (and ti.S5) to see what happens. Or maybe I can combine the two and go crazy with lead on demoes.

Seriously???

Well, and you haven't seen my serve since the summer, so I'll try to remember that as I seethe inside.

You guys all know I'm never going to hit with the pace that the guys do, but consistency can go a long way toward winning a match (or at least not giving away free points).

What's the criteria for this sudden interest in ranking people's serves?

And why has nobody put Sup on the list?

cuz sup likes to hide or mask his game methinks. not sure if he's capable of bombing the big serve or if he is capable (more likely) but instead likes to mix it up and place it in the corners where it doesn't matter how hard you hit it.

i remember an old instructor telling me that tennis, like art, is an expression of your personality. so the way we play tennis says a lot about who we are.

so the way sup plays tennis suggests he's a sneaky, smug bastidge who likes to prolong the pain. sounds about right yes no? ;)

It's cuz we were practicing serves the last clinic. Everyone was hitting 'em pretty well and we were all talking about bringing out the radar gun to see what the speeds were. Sup said I was serving around 105 I think. I say bring out the gun this Thursday!

Sorry, not trying to put anyone down, just trying to be honest on the most difficult serves I've faced in our limited competitions. Neither Sup nor Auzzie has hit a serve to me in real competition, so I can't judge between them. And for some reason, JRS hasn't used his flat serve against me very often. When he does, it's pretty tough.

Didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.

Well, but like I said, you're thinking of my serve from the BBQ, yes? Lotta work is being done on the serve currently, so I can't very well expect you to know that. Suffice to say, I think I actually snap my wrist from time to time these days!

And, again, I will never be able to match the boys' pace, but that alone should not warrant a 'good' serve, right? We all know that JRK can hit bombs, but does that balance out the DF that he also sometimes falls prone to?

I guess that is a good, general question...which would you rather have? The big bomb that also brings with it many DF, or a slower, less 'dangerous' but more consistent serve?

I leave you with that...kindergarteners await!!! :)

Sup, you are the kind of person who would never say such thing. You'd rather see someone pushing their way to victory than blasting cannon balls everywhere, right?

Negatory to pushing.. well unless you are down to your last resort.

Sup believes you should swing freely, not arm the sucker, use as little energy as possible, HIT deep, and pull the trigger when appropriate.

I also believe that pop rocks mixed with pepsi is a bad idea.

My philosophy is... the outcome of anyone's serve is:

1) it goes in

2) it doesn't go in

If it doesn't go in, then you lose the point, there is no other possible outcome.

If it goes in, you could win the point or you could lose the point.

I serve the way I do so that if it goes in, I win the point. :)

My students would vehemently disagree with that!

I serve the way I do so that if it goes in, I win the point. :)

And, with your serve, it does win the point when it goes in! Are we going to get a larger version of your new avatar?

Me, I thought I had made some adjustments to my serve and thought it would be difficult to return at least weekend's tournament...only to be sorely mistaken.

My flat serve is very inconsistent. Either top of the net or long. My spin serve is my staple. I go to the flat at 40-0 or 40-15. Last night I couldn't buy a flat serve and the one I did hit that I though went in, they called out... after thinking about it.

Topaz,

PP or I would gladly play mixed doubles with you. However, we as college students, can only afford to wear American Eagle hoodies. So, all in all, we don't have an extra $20 lying around for an extra session. PP said that if some rich guy (winks at some guy who drives a Benz) pays $20 for him, then he'll gladly play.

I don't think Vitaly is going. He is busy with the house. He mentioned it was open and Auzzie hasnt responded.

So if Xisbum is good with you going, then you get the spot.

Adding one more like Sap is no problem either. Just! JRK, JRS, HW and others have to unanimously agree.

Can you hit Friday? I can try to get some open time for a 2 hour clinic you and Sappy? Or does it have to be Thursday?

What tension do you want your racquets strung at? Natural gut is very lively, so power is pentiful, so is control. If you love poly's then I would suggest 5%-10% tighter than that tension.

i've read the manuals for modding and xbox360 and it sounds like serious pain. you are pretty much re-firmwareing the dvdrom drive but the catch is that you'll need all the right parts to accomplish this.
