Hey SFC! (Drak - I emailed you as you were the 1st poster in this forum, but never heard back.) I'll officially be in Key West March 17-22 for a little vacation. I'll mostly be free during the day (minus the weekend as I will be doing family events), but thought it would be fun to meet anyone that would be down there. Maybe even get some tennis in or show me the local vibe?

I realize it's in the heart of Spring Break so normal spots might be crazy, but I'm hoping to experience more of the traditional local feel. If anyone has recommendations on what to do/see let me know. I've already been recommended to check out Looe Key.

I'm very much looking forward to the trip and possibly meeting some of you!

Kana,

Bummer, those dates are around the beginning of the Sony Ericsson open. Any chance you can drive up the 21st? Tennis, sun, fun and less Chris/Spencer tennis and more Federer/Nadal?

Feel free to e-mail me - screen name @ gmail .com - I should be there although my wife's having knee surgery in Fort Lauderdale on the 15th so my avilability depends. If you need any suggestions about things to do, ask although my wife' blog would be the optimal place to check out. http://floridakeysgirl.com/

Looe Key is cool. Options are really unlimited - HogFish on Stock Island is great. I watch bands at Hog's Breath. It is a little less ridiculous than Sloppy Joes and places of that ilk. The Porch has the best beer selection in town. Fort Zach is the best beach (but they charge). Orchid Key is the best unknown bar. Blackfin Bistro has the best burgers. Could go on and on.

As for tennis, head to Bayview and there is always a game. If you don't want to play with others, then I would head to the Higgs Beach courts on the beach and then you can eat at Salute afterwards.

hey FloridaAG,
How are you man?
I stopped the other day where Drak works, we discussed the possibility in the near future to get one more time together! SFTCH hitting at ......who knows? I will go anywhere.
I'll have the chance then to meet some other members like you.
Hoping we can make it,

Sounds good to me. I am usually in Key West on the weekends but depending on the date perhaps I could make it.

well, then I see it difficult but we have to try. Oscar is not available over the weekend, I don't know about Drak schedule. I guess the choice would be a weekday night.

Looe Key is nice for scuba. haven't been there since my check out dive way back when. maybe try snorkeling if you're not a certified diver. are you lodging in Key West?

I would also add - should definitely have drinks at the Afterdeck at Louie's - great views.

Definitely walk along the harbor - don't get trapped just on Duval street. A visit to Pepper's the Hot Sauce store on Greene; Kermit's Key Lime Shop on Elizabeth and Greene.

I'm also a huge hot sauce fan. The last time I was in Key West was in October 2002 and that may have been the hottest weather I've experienced in the state of Florida. No breeze at all that day and the humidity slapped me in the face as I stepped off the cruise ship.

Sup - I'm pretty limited to Key West since I won't have any transportation other than possibly renting a bike.

FloridaAG - Thanks so much for the reply! I love your wife's blog as I am a big wining/dining girl myself. I don't know much about wine, but am trying to grow in that field. I'm excited to take some great photos down there so anything with a view I'll go. Is there a restaurant you recommend that has an amazing seafood pasta? It's one of my favorites! Also, I wish your wife a successful procedure and I'm sending her my love!

bad_call - I'll be staying in KW, but I don't have the address yet. I'm not certified but I've read you can do snorkeling at Looe Key. I've never been much of the water person (bad swimmer) so I'm really excited to do some water activities.. maybe with some floaties.

Hi, Kana.

I must have mistakenly deleted the email or didn't receive it. Sorry.

Would love to meet up, and possibly get a hit in. email me again when you get a chance. I may be stringing another tournament (not sure yet), but if it works out, I'm down with spending a day or two in the keys.

For seafood pasta, I generally would suggest:

Flaming Buoy (warmth and great atmosphere but no view etc) - generally it is a pene with shrimp, scallops and either swordfish or wahoo (depending on which is freshest)

Salute - I often get a carbonara pasta there with fish on top. It is excellent. Located on the beach. One of the few oceanfront restaurants in town

Azur has a seafood risotto that is awesome.

As long as you avoid overly touristy places it is hard to go wrong. Thanks for the kind wishes to my wife. I will pass them along

Greetings TW S Florida Chapter.

I am looking for a host for my boy for Clay Court Nats 16's in Boca. Specific sites are Broken Sound and Boca West Country Clubs.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Lets get the Tennis Warehouse networking going. granitechief at yahoo dot com. Thanks!!

That would be great. We hit with a lot of the guys in S. Florida Chapter several years when we were there and got along great with everyone. Right Drak, Oscar, jmverdugo, blackfrido, etc. ?

The funny thing is that despite never really playing on clay, my boy seems to do ok on the surface, bringing back a silver ball int the 12's dubs, haha! Hopefully more to come!!

Hi guys,
I'm Andy from Germany. For about 20 years I'm spending 1 or 2 vacations a year in Florida, mostly Fort Lauderdale.

Since I'm in need for some new rackets and other stuff it's a must to buy the things in US, cause it's way cheaper than in Europe, especially apparel and shoes.

Can you recommend a good source for tennis stuff apart from the Authority or Dick's? Reasonable pricing is very welcome, good variety of choice would be appreciated.
I'll stay in Lauderdale from Sep. 21 'til Oct 5, so there's plenty of time for shopping :)

Btw.: does Tennis Warehouse deliver fast (less than a week) in the US? Maybe I could order something to be delivered to my hotel...

Thanks,
Andy

Thanks!!
The homepage looks ok.

Man, can't wait to be in Florida!! This year's german "summer" seems to be even worse than 2010.

Desperately awaiting sun, sand, steaks and cocktails...

Greetings,
Andy

Hey guys,
How come Tennis Warehouse-Central Florida Chapter is alive and still posting and we are almost extinct? It's about time to do something about it!
Where are you guys now? What are you doing? I know work, recession, etc, etc......but not even a day to get together for a fun hitting session.

You guys should schedule stuff for the weekends if that is the only time you can play.

I live in Key West on the weekends so could not meet up on weekends.

South Florida Chapter Meet up!

Don't be caught in that dream where you forgot your clothes and your racquet. It's just your anxiety that something is missing in your tennis life.

All is well... the South Florida Chapter (first in TW chapters).. will rise again.

tennis-triples-challenge-101080.jpg

Ok South Florida peeps.

I moved down here in Dec and can by state law, consider myself a South Floridian in status. If that doesn't cut it.. I lived with Drakulie & Panterka for a month.. that's punishment enough to cause a reversal... (kidding)

I organized the TW Mid Atlantic Chapter to their glory. Again, I had to deal with Zapvor.. which demonstrates the obstacles I overcame.

So let's get this chapter going again.

FLorida AG, you mentioned you are away on weekends. Does that include a Friday evening?

Let's get a headcount of members, and what days would be good for them. We have a holiday weekend coming up, so maybe that's a good time. Who knows. We won't unless we speak up.

Sup- I can meet up during the week, weekends but not during solar eclipses and hurricanes.

Florida AG- Weekdays.

Our Central Florida chapter will be losing Coyfish to South Florida, so maybe he can meet up with you guys when he gets down there in a few days.

That would be good. Maybe if you see him post elsewhere you can send him our way.

BTW, has South Florida met Central Florida yet?

Is it like the Sharks and the Jets?

Haha. A battle of the chapters would be fun. Maybe we can field a team next April for the Sony.

Great to see this chapter breathing again, although still on life support.

I'm in. Lets get a meeting together. Also, would be a lot of fun to do something with the Central chapter.
