I keep reading all the different explanations of Cilic's breakdown in the final- bad foot, bad knee, panic attack etc. All wrong.
The truth, of course, is that Cilic fell victim to the Curse of Denying Roger Federer (CODRF). Basically, he denied the 2014 US Open title to its rightful owner, Roger Federer and what happened in the final on Sunday was a retribution for that.
Don't believe in the curse? Ask Juan-Martin del Potro. He also denied Roger Federer a US Open title that was rightfully his (Roger Federer's) and was cursed to be injured for a long time after that. Painful.
Novak Djokovic denied Roger Federer several big titles that were rightfully Roger Federer's and was cursed to go from World No.1 and a heartthrob on the Sub-Continent to being Pepe Imaz's doormat. Sad.
Andy Murray, still have no idea how, denied Roger Federer the Olympic Title that was rightfully Roger Federer's and was cursed with having history's worst run of a No.1 player + a bad hip + well, being Andy Murray. Cruel.
Rafael Nadal denied Roger Federer many titles that were rightfully Roger Federer's and was cursed to spend the second half of every year nursing injuries, real and/or imagined + an itchy bottom (yuck). He, however, saw the error of his ways and, in the beginning of 2017, started rolling over every time he met Roger Federer in a tennis match. He was immediately rewarded with a title at a somewhat big tournament played on broken bricks in front of an obnoxious crowd. Redemption.
If you need conclusive proof, just look at Thomas Berdych. He never denied Roger Federer anything and he is healthy, rich, handsome and has a stunning wife. Smart.
