The Curse of Denying Roger Federer

Denying a Federer record comes with long-term consequences too. Look at what happened to Сергій Стаховський or better known as Sergiy Eduardovych Stakhovsky after beating seven-time winner and defending champion Roger Federer in the 2nd round of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships ending his record run of 36 consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinals. He was as high as #31 in the rankings prior to this unfortunate event. Currently he is #122 and a journeyman in challenger tournaments trying to make a living from tennis.
He is from Ukraine and fedr's heaviest crony Vlad Putin is taking it out on the whole country. This explains countryman Dolgopolov's laydown in 1R Wimby. For this capitulation, The Dog will receive a dacha for life on The Crimean Peninsula.

No, of course not. On May 11, 1997 the ITF Junior Circuit held the Category G2 Prato International Junior Tournament in Italy on clay and that tournament was rightfully Luca Kutanjac's and Roger Federer came and took that away from him. Since then, Roger has been under the Denying Luca Kutjanac Curse... every time he knows his wife he has to have twins. Hence his obsession with playing tennis and Mirka's forlorn look.

Gulbis is a victim of a much more powerful curse... the Dying Seagull Curse

Look what happens when you dare give fedr the Sewretchian Bagel Treatment! Poor Reto Schmidli had to give up tennis and become a cop in Basel. And if you think Nadal is losing his hair, check out the chrome dome on this under-40 dude:

If only I could be so cursed as to be some of those people above.....

Sorry, was cursed myself with a very tiring trip and missed that one. I called the Department of Tennis Curses and they gave me the following helpful two-step program to achieving that:

Step 1: Deny Roger Federer a title, preferably at a Slam tournament
Step 2: Watch your world crumble around you (and sometimes on top of you)

If you want to exacerbate the effects of the curse, here's a few more helpful pointers:

- cry and point at your box like a long-lost child who just found its family
- do a prone spread eagle on the court surface (warning - this may result in the ground splitting up and swallowing you)
- point at Mirka and smirk

If, OTOH, you want to preserve a faint hope for a further simply moderately unhappy life, do the following immediately after the denying has been done:

- drop on your knees in front of the Lord (Lord Fed, that is) and beg for forgiveness; promise never to do it again
- don't celebrate at all. Pretend nothing happened. Walk away quietly leaving your belongings, the trophy and the adoring crowd behind you; don't look back!
- allow Mirka to heckle you during the trophy presentation; smile benignly and look down at your feet

Update:

J.M. del Potro denied, again, a US Open title that rightfully belonged to Roger Federer and was cursed to have a nasty fall and hurt his previously-operated wrist. While we extend our sympathies to J.M. del Potro and wish him a speedy recovery we do hope he TAKES AN EFFING HINT! The curse tends to get really nasty the third time around, you hear that, J.M.??

I keep reading all the different explanations of Cilic's breakdown in the final- bad foot, bad knee, panic attack etc. All wrong.

The truth, of course, is that Cilic fell victim to the Curse of Denying Roger Federer (CODRF). Basically, he denied the 2014 US Open title to its rightful owner, Roger Federer and what happened in the final on Sunday was a retribution for that.

Don't believe in the curse? Ask Juan-Martin del Potro. He also denied Roger Federer a US Open title that was rightfully his (Roger Federer's) and was cursed to be injured for a long time after that. Painful.

Novak Djokovic denied Roger Federer several big titles that were rightfully Roger Federer's and was cursed to go from World No.1 and a heartthrob on the Sub-Continent to being Pepe Imaz's doormat. Sad.

Andy Murray, still have no idea how, denied Roger Federer the Olympic Title that was rightfully Roger Federer's and was cursed with having history's worst run of a No.1 player + a bad hip + well, being Andy Murray. Cruel.

Rafael Nadal denied Roger Federer many titles that were rightfully Roger Federer's and was cursed to spend the second half of every year nursing injuries, real and/or imagined + an itchy bottom (yuck). He, however, saw the error of his ways and, in the beginning of 2017, started rolling over every time he met Roger Federer in a tennis match. He was immediately rewarded with a title at a somewhat big tournament played on broken bricks in front of an obnoxious crowd. Redemption.

If you need conclusive proof, just look at Thomas Berdych. He never denied Roger Federer anything and he is healthy, rich, handsome and has a stunning wife. Smart.

LOL, brilliant! Someone give this man a Sunny Deol DVD. Scratch that ... he deserves nothing less than a personal meeting with the man himself.

What a great thread.

OP is the GOAT runner up (after Lord Fed, of course, who remains the GOATFAEBD (GOAT For All Eternity By Default).

Genuine question though:
Daveed Ferrer has been a good boy and never denied Lord Fed, in any match whatsoever. Same goes for Mikhaeel Yuuuuzhnyy and Deliciano.

But they have received no bounteous reward in the form of major titles from the merciful Lord Fed.

None of them have had the opportunity to face the GOAT Fed in a major final.

Instead Daveed faced the giver of nothing, Nadal, on his crushed brick farm home.

No i know that they never faced Lord in a major final, but what i meant was why does Lord Fed not use his supernatural powers to affect destiny and give them a few major titles?

Lord tried his best.

In fact during his QF against Tsonga in 2013 RG he came to this realisation midway through the first set when he was up a break. Once he remembered his true calling, he surrendered the rest of the match and hoped for fate to run its course. Ferrer would then handily dispatch Tsonga in the next round to be on the cusp of a major.

Unfortunately the rest was history.

Another notable addition:
Sashay Zverev hasn't won anything since he dared to beat an injured Lord in the Montreal final, has he?

List of people he lost to after that: Big Foe, Choric, Dammit Dzhumur, Cheerios, and Delpo.

Some good players there in that list, but nobody he shouldn't have beaten TBH.

The Lord giveth with mercy, but he taketh with divine vengeance.

Yes, thank you for filling in the list of inglorious bast..., well, let's charitably call them 'players' who are deservedly suffering under the curse. In addition to denying Roger Federer the Montreal title that rightfully belonged to Roger Federer, young Zverev also dares to have hair which, if it doesn't exactly rival, at least resembles Roger Federer's luxurious, flowing mane. Unforgivable.

Ferrer and Deliciano are Spanish; there's a suspicion that a major curse is hanging over the entire nation for understandable (and regrettable) reasons. Why do you think Catalonia wants to secede? So they can avoid the rage of the curse, that's why. Remember how Barca failed to win squat last year? The curse in action.

Youzhny, I don't know. He must have insulted Swiss cheese once.

To be fair, Spain won 2 Euros and a World Cup from 2008 to 2012. Lord is merciful sometimes.

Don't forget the first victim. He was patient zero. He suffered tremendously from the curse and eventually retired a self-loathing miserable and sarcastic misanthropic indivicual with a very hot wife. He prevented Federer's first YE#1 way back in '03, beating him at the Roger's Cup of all tournaments.

Poor Andy Roddick, Mury bless your kind soul. I hope he is in a better place now

To be honest, the prime reason for that was Real (the most Spanish of Spanish football teams) sweeping everything.

Christiano is Portuguese; maybe the gods got confused. Spain is having theirs coming, believe me. The curse delays but doesn't forget.

I know. Federer must be the servant of the Gods rather than their master. But surely he begged for a reprieve for Robin? Or sacrificed a goat?

Sacrificing a goat would amount to suicide in Fed's case. So, alas, not applicable.

Only an extremely crazy ******* could create such a thread...

I am a crazy line of asterisks indeed!
