The disgrace of the youngsters continues

We are now guaranteed to go through another slam without a man younger than Cilic ever having won one.

We are now therefore only 3 slams away from having no slam champions under 30 in the men's game.

Also, Raonic at the 2016 W remains the only man born in the 90s to have reached a slam final. This now covers all men up to the age of 28.

Disgusting.

No I'd say things are going very right.

I'd rather watch Fed win slam after slam than one dimensional bashers like Angry Rublev and Azverev that cant come to the net if their life depended on it.

That wasn't my point. I completely agree with that. I'd also take Federer winning another slam every time as long as live. But there's something seriously wrong with under 30yo guys. Not only the majority of them are boring, one-dimensional players with similar style, but they can't even push the elders out of the top. Not that I wish for that of course, but I'm pointing out how pathetic they are. The day will come when Fed truly retires and I'd like to have someone else to root for, who didn't have to wait for his retirement to finally have some success.

I rather watch excellence than mediocrity any day. Federer is still skilled enough to beat mediocre players. The nextgen players need to focus more on being constantly skilled players first before clamoring to push out players because their over-thirty.

I agree. I have faith in Shapovolov I guess. Maybe Fed will play till 50 and humiliate yet another generation or two.

Even Shapo recently stated that he hopes for Fedal to retire soon. These guys should focus on working hard, instead of ******** how unlucky they are to be playing in their era (even though it's long past that). Djoko said something similar in 07-09, but instead of crying he worked on himself and look what he did.

It was a joke. Both times.

Just young guys paying respect via humor.

I think that age group doesn't have the desire to change their game enough to beat them. The easy path is to be a baseliner and make 3rd rd to QF and be happy. Only Shapovalov has a game that is attacking and has a good net game.

that's a bit to blame on the coaching. just go and visit any academy in your area. baselining practicing is 90% of what you're going to see. with some serve and volleys mixed in sometimes. but I agree these kids need to start innovating their game. Need to take a tip out of Pete Sampras book and hire a volley and serve coach.

I agree 100% on the limited thinking of U.S. coaches. Additionally, they instill to have a big serve and big forehand. The farthest it will get you is to be a top 10 (not bad) and if you get that far, you just might beat an "All Time Great" (AGT) if they are having a bad day. However, the majority who play that way don't make the top 100 or stay there briefly.

There's usually a 10-year or 15-year gap between all-time greats and a new young great talent. I don't see any exceptionally great talent to challenge the big four. Only if big four get injured does it give them a chance of winning. Remember, two of the big four just came back after 6 months off the tour.
