The most disappointing day for nadal fans!

It's time for a new champion. Everyone is tired of Rafa's game. Even he is tired of his game. Everyone wants something new. Refresh the game with a Djokovic or Soderling championship. :)

Isn't this a bit melodramatic?

He isn't barring his soul, just "analysing" his game via reporters questions.

The fear of defeat is always there. It's just that Nadal had confidence in his game in the past and defeat was a distant thought. I'm sure losing to Djokovic dented his confidence but I doubt losing those finals meant that Nadal forgot how to hit his BH or hit his trademark DTL FH for most of clay season(and these things happened before meeting djoker on clay as well).

Trust me, if Nadal was playing well, he would have relished going into RG as a underdog against Djokovic. But he is not and he knows it.

I mean Nadal played better clay tennis outside of RG so far, though only marginally. And still he lost sets to Murray(1),Fed(1),Djoker(4), Lorenzi(1). How is he supposed to win in 3 out of 5 format against these guys(add sod in the mix too) while playing WORSE?

I would reccomend you read one of the very few decent Bozo articles:

http://blogs.tennis.com/tennisworld/2011/05/five-time-realist.html

I had read that article earlier today, and this is where he asks a good question, exactly what I talked about when I referred to a Champion's mentality:

"...I never did get to pose a question, which would have been something like this: Are you aware of the irony in this situation, where Djovovic is playing Nadal to your Federer? Didn't we recently go through something like this when Nadal emerged to establish himself as a rival to Federer? Weren't you supposed to be in Federer's head, instead of Djokovic being in yours?"

Yes, but what Nadal is going through happened to EVERYONE IN TOP TENNIS HISTORY, which is aging and a guy next to you being better(and of course getting in your head since you were supposed to be the better one).

A champion's mentality means never giving up the fight. Nadal didn't. He just recognized the MAJOR holes that are in his game right now and they ARE affecting his confidence for ALL matches with top guys, not just Djokovic. Nadal is missing shots that he would have made with his eyes closed in the past. And if I have to be honest with you, Nadal has shown some majorly negative body language all year long(when did you ever, ever, see Nadal put his hands on his head after a missed shot in the past?) that was made even worse by the Djoko beatdowns.

If Nadal conceeded defeat in this RG he could have rolled over against Isner and went home to Mallorca. Nadal doesn't want to lose but at the same time he sees that he can't go on playing like this and hope to win RG. This is what he was talking about.

Thankfully it looks like Ralph will remain where he truly belongs: Tier 2. With Agassi, Becker, Edberg etc.

He will never make to tier 1 of the greats, Laver, Borg, Sampras and Fed.

Phew...

Stop bubbling nameless. Since when he has so many holes in his game when he is in every final? Right now the only hole is in his head. All the other big holes are in the asses of his fans.

You're right. Nadal's game is just fiiiinnneeee.

Screw the countless commentators that were awed by how thoroughly average Rafa has played this RG.

Man, I just love to see that DTL FH that Nadal so routinely does nowadays and that BH, oh man what a treat.

Or maybe the era used to be weaker. Now that Djokovic is around, the era got a lot stronger and Nadal isn't ready for it.

Nadal has made 6 straight finals beating along the way Dolgopolov/Del Potro/Federer (twice)/Ferrer (twice)/Murray and came close in beating Djokovic in Miami. This doesn't jive with your notion that Rafa is playing trash at this moment in time. Since the Australian open Nadal has only lost to Djokovic the best player in the world.

True. I don't know why that is. I mean it's not like they have reasons to be, right? :)

this has been like that for ages. if he wins, he is a warrior, if he loses he was injured or not there... he is humble but yet he is apreciated for his flashy game and clothes...

when he was winning one major vs fed' 3 you guys wanted him to be number one compulsory because of h2h, these days you want him to be out of number one because he like to be the underdog. he reached more finals than ever this season so far, yet his game is off

would you nadal fans please make up your mind???

so, Nadal... Not only OCD, but also Severely Bipolar?

nadal and his fans are so insecure about his game

We have never been sure about his game and that is why he is such an exciting player to watch. Rafa brought life back into tennis. So many people were happy to just sit in the top ten bracket. Now they realize that if they just work that little bit harder they could just be where he is ....but can they stay there. It has taken Djoko 5 years to sort himself out - a long time in tennis

Namelessness, explain your love for Rafa, tell me what you would or wouldnt do for him if you met him?

LMAO.

He is just a athlete.

Anyway, I am talking seriously about the guy's tennis and you are bringing down the level of the discussion.

Good day.

He's just a athlete, and yet if we put together the pages of your posts explaining his abilities and his holes it would not fit in library of congress.
Only an athlete my ass.

I'm a fan, it's normal that I talk about my fav player more than others. I'm sure Rog fans knew a lot of things about their fav that fans of other players didn't know or bother to research.

I've never expressed interest in anything Nadal does outside of his tennis, unlike others around here who bicker about Nadal's gf, lifestyle, etc. etc.

He is just a very good tennis player that I've enjoyed watching since 2004 and I don't like to see his game in shambles when he can do so much more on court.

Plus I'm verbose by nature on teh internets and I would talk a lot about any topic that interest me, not just tennis.

This is strategy and mind games. Nadal will soon reveal his true level of play, he wants to make Djokovic think he's playing badly and he's going to beat him easily.

Or maybe he's just playing badly..;-)

No not at all. I was bored stiff with watching Sampras and then Federer and people not coming forward to really challenge them. I watched Rafa evolve slowly and it was like watching a great expedition to the top. He did it his way with incredible guts and talent and determination. He kept us on the edge of our seats often being so many sets down and by sheer force winning tournaments. A great guy who is as exciting to watch whether he wins or loses

I agree, Nadal brings the excitement for me, it's disappointing when he's not playing well. He never smiles on court anymore.

Dude, don't be ridiculous. Nadal NEVER smiles on court! He always looks so intense with his excessive fist pumping. Looking at Nadal play, you never get the sense that he enjoys playing tennis.

This guy has won over 30 million in prize money and you say "so sad"? Give me a break. I desperately wish I was as sad as him! You pessimistic Nadal fans are ridiculously hilarious. I cannot feel sad for these spoiled, rich athletes with super hot girlfriends/wives.

I worry for shamelessone...what will he do when Ralph calls it quits?

Cant believe what I just read. :(

"I am not confident. I am not playing well enough to win this tournament the way I played today. That's the truth. You have to be realistic.

"We will see after tomorrow if I am ready to play at this level. I am going to try. But I won five times already here. I don't have an obligation to win six. I am going to try for sure.

"Sometimes it's much more important to win when you are not playing that well than win when you are playing well, because winning when you are playing well probably it is easier."

I cant believe this, WTH nadal how can he already lose the hunger for more?

(Looks like Rafa just punked you and hopefully Djokovic too :-----)

Perhaps jump off a bridge? Slit his/her wrists? That poster never ceases to amaze me with his/her ridiculous pessimism. It is getting very tiresome. Now, I just skip over namelessone's posts who says the exact same negative stuff about Nadal in post after post and thread after thread.

Yes, that is true but has absolutely nothing to do with my previous post. LMAO that you have to bring Fed into this! I do not expect these athletes to be all smiley on court. There are in a very intense situation and their facial expressions will naturally reflect it.

Rock Paper Scissors

Hilarious.

Borg was a much better player than JMac and I think 11 GS has secured his legacy. Not to mention owning RG and WB(with three channel slams) in the time when differences in speed were bigger than today.

Nobody claimed JMac was the better player but he had Borg's number. Borg gave up after the Wimby/USO daily double ('81?). Two of the best TSlobs went over his head on crucial points in the USO final and you could see his competitive will deflate. Enough was enough and he wasn't ever gonna win in NY, despite being oh so close so often. He QUIT, thereby replacing his shield of valor with a white stripe down his back. Sure, 11 majors look good but imagine if he kept on trying and succeeded. How many more majors, especially if he got the first 3 and went to Australia to finish a GS? 17 would be Fed's next rung on the ladder trying to catch BB. Yeah, that's hilarious!

You're yet another person who has bought into the myth that McEnroe drove Borg out of tennis. One is amazed at the amount of people who believe this, as well as those who ridiculously believe that Borg walked away from tennis right after the 1981 US Open and retired right there. Even Bud Collins has voiced this myth in the past. The reality is that Borg won his next tournament after the 1981 US Open, a clay tournament in Geneva, and it wasn't until January 1983, during the Masters, that it came to light that Borg would not be returning to the tour full-time.

Did you know that Borg had a trouble playing at night at the US Open? It had to do with vision problems playing under the lights and that may have contributed to him never succeeding at US Open.

Anyway, Borg is head and shoulders above JMac.

Think of it this way.
- 5 straight Wimbledon titles. Sampras couldn't tie it, Roger couldn't break it. - 4 straight French Open titles. Nadal could only tie it, not break it.
- 3 FO-Wimbledon doubles. Nadal has done it twice, Roger once.

Three of the best tennis players in recent history could match Borg's records but not break it, collectively. Speaks volumes about Borg's achievements.
