Well...it's so good that I don't even contemplate trying 16x19 version of the TC95 and I will contemplate a TC97 only after an 18x20 option is available.

Edit: every time I start thinking about trying out a frame like an APD, one session with my TC95 is enough to ensure me I don't really need to.

What are the specific weight/balance specs on your 95 if you don't mind me asking?

I think the 18x20 would be great for my slice. How's the spin potential with your 18x20?
likely since the 16x19's slice is very good too... my slice isnt something i use too often since my topspin/flat drives are probably my best strokes but the thin tapered beam 19 tip-20mm grip helps it knife through the air... the very even flex is nice for slice as it doenst feel like any particular part is doing most of the flexing. The ra63 verdion is 58ra strung and has s very noticeable flex that is less ps85-like.

mine started life at 310g 9ptshl but i added a lot of weight and strung is 361g 9pts hl. 12pts hl is a good idea unstung

Can I ask why you didn't start with the 330g version, so you didn't have to add as much weight? Assuming you didn't add it all to the head. Seems like the swing weight of these sticks doesn't really vary between the static weight, rather the balance of the frame, no?

I think he bought the frame second-hand, as did I. I would have gone 330/305 but I'm very glad I've tried 320/315 first. I was quite surprised that, as far as stability, plow through, maneuverability and power is concerned, a 320/315 TC95(63RA) does it all with 20g of static weight to spare compared to my usual, 360g strung specs.

it was used but mint condition, so those were the specs. I figured id dial this one in to know the exact order i wanted... grip size/shape even. Also i knew a new paint job was coming but liked the old one and they were routinely sold out of what i thought i wanted. Still determining if i want another 16x19 or an 18x20.

im back up to 361g but thats still lighter tgan my previous frames... might back it down to 359g. ... we shall see. i need a singles match to tell. in a few days. It felt good during my serve and wall practice just an hour ago. but thats not the test.

Has anyone here ordered anything from the new US Angell seller Advanced Racquets? The don't seem to respond to emails or phone calls.

Are RA ratings allways measured strung? My zebra has a rating of 58 but could that actually mean 54? Would like to know how it compares to the Angells.

Depends on the company, I guess. I would say that retail frames have their RA measured strung but I'm far from certain.

So then the only way to find out is when someone who has played with b oth the Zebra and Angel (RA 58/63) comes forward...

Pretty much. Or you could locate an RDC machine somewhere and have your Zebras measured.

tw measures them strung... Angells custom line are measured unstrung and without handles... both of which alter the #'s.

pro stock frames nornally cone as hairpins without handles... Paul Angell used to run Dunlops pro stock program, back when they mattered.... everyone feels sad about dunlop.... never good when a great frame maker becomes a wraith of itself.

thats the great thing about ordering a custom line frame from Paul, you basically get Pro Stock service and quality.

So far, I have played with the TC95 RA 70 and 63, TC97 and TC100 RA 70. I'm developing a very deep appreciating for the TC95 63RA. What a stick! Feel is tremendous and this even keeled frame does everything with star quality. I played with the TC100 RA70 yesterday which I always enjoyed before and certainly a terrific stick but I just missed the feel of the TC95 63RA. Reallly makes me wonder about pros and cons of TC100 63RA vs the 95 head in terms of control/forgiveness. I think BHBH is probably the only one who has tried more Angel sticks then me and I would love to hear a side by side of TC95 vs TC100 RA63 compare.

the thing with the ra63 tc95 is it is so dynamic... very unlike classic prestiges and radicals.. more in line with the ps85 but different and far flexier. I think Max 200g players should look at it and the 70ra should appeal to ps85 and 95 users... but it is its own thing... the layup in Angells have their own personality... perhaps the tc95 ra63 is its best expression but that doesnt mean it suits everyone equally. would love to hear more about the 100 as its thin flexy foam filled nature is a unique offering when most frames are babolat or head radical clones... players need options and they have been going away below 65 ra strung. Angells drill patterns are interesting (in a good way) but take the "right" string often.

So I bought a used vantage 95 in the 63ra version and I am impressed! Strung it up with Typhoon/bhs at 49/46 lbs and added 5g of head tape and 3g of lead at 9 and 5 and took it out for a spin. And spin is what it gave me, and power on both wings. It almost looked like a baseball pitch the way the ball bottomed out right at the end. The only other frames that gave me that kind of spin were the RF and the open pattern h22. I've read the comparisons between this frame and the h22 and I really doubted that they would perform similarly but they do in terms of power and spin, even though the vantage offers much more control and they feel very different. I love solid yet plush frames and this vantage is the epitomy of that. slices were low and biting as well. I haven't gotten the chance to serve with it yet but I am looking forward to that.

I liked it so much that I bought two more used ones at a crazy price. The only issue I have is that this frame is a bit heavy for my taste, 330g/9 pts headlight? unstrung and the other 2 may be a little heavier than I want as well, 320g/9 pts headlight? My original order to Paul was the tc95 310g/9 pts headlight option. My plan was to add 5-10g of weight to the head and get the sw right around 345, balance 3-5 pts headlight, and still remain below 350g static weight. I'm waiting on a response from Paul about matching the frames by adjusting the weights in the handle but if someone else can enlighten me on where the weights need to be placed to achieve my desired weight and balance (the way Angell sets theirs up) I'd be really appreciative. He already confirmed that they're all the same frame with removable pallets and adjustable weight system.

Glad you are liking it... I try to give out a lot of info and context on these TC95 RA 63's as most cant demo them... its a special stick. Ive got a bunch of BHS-R sitting around so let me know how it is as a cross? I was just about to string up my old IGPMP with it so I can further evaluated whether I want to order another 16x19 or an 18x20 (leaning hard towards another 16x19) but I need more match play with this setup to be sure. Did you get a 16x19?

You can tell the Angell's have a following for a reason when picking up used sticks lead to more new orders.

I have a TC95 RA 70 and am loving the solid response, spin and power. It is a bit too stiff for me though and am thinking about ordering a TC97, since I think the 58 strung flex of the TC95 RA63 might be a bit too flexible for me and I like the swingweight at 320 strung.

Does the TC97 still have the same character as the TC95 RA 70 or is it a completely different animal? Is the TC95 RA63 closer in overall feel and performance to the RA70 than the TC97?

My understanding is they are all similar with the 95's being more muted... Paul was smart to make the TC97 a 62ra strung... fills a hole in his line.

One old trick is to put lead at 12:00... not only does it make it whippier but it also enhances the sensation of how flexible the frame is playing... the more polarized the more flexy feel... to a degree

also remove lead at the throat if you have any that makes it feel stiffer... to a degree

Yes 16x19. It is a special stick and its exactly what I've been looking for regarding feel , power , spin, and directional control. The bhs is a nice cross. I've used it a couple times before as a cross, once with cheap gut in an h22 and once with red ghost in a 95d and its soft for a poly and pretty slick and its so cheap that I may trade or sell this reel of ogsm I have because it serves the same purpose and holds tension better and is relatively cheap. Its crazy how comfy the frame is with full poly. I've been transitioning to gut/poly but I'm really going to keep an open mind when experimenting with this frame and I'll use whatever performs best. I have a lot of different string so its fun to experiment but can also be tedious to narrow down a preference, which I'm trying to do in the name of consistency. It seems like most of you prefer full poly in this frame but I'm willing to bet gut/poly will feel and perform nicely as well at the right tensions.

interesting, what tension? I'm also curious about trying hyper g in it at some point in time but I agree testing out strings is ultimately quite tedious and I like to just started narrow down my gear so I can just concentrate on the tennis.

I'm also curious as to it's properties compared to the 95 D and the H22 I know H22 very tremendously from stick to stick so it won't will be representative of a particular race of rackets

would love to hit with an 95 D some day ... too stiff for my tastes but I am curious.

Actually, even though the h22 does come in different layups I think the standard is 58 ra or right around there because 99% of the ones I've either played with or have seen advertised were just that and I've seen over a hundred of them. They are solid frames indeed but feel more firm because the upper hoop is stiff. Super powerful yet comfy due to the high sw and flex. Harder to control than the vantage. The 95d is actually higher ra than the h22 but a little more plush I would say. It's a semi muted frame with nice feel. Its crisp yet solid and plush. Good balance of power and control and good access to spin. Performs very similarly to the Vantage. I'd say the vantage allows more access to spin but not much. It's a solid frame in its own right but after the Vantage, nothing else feels quite as solid. It's weird how playing with one frame will completely change how another frame feels when you pick it up. If you're looking to try different frames for the sake of indulging in the excitement of trying something new then I say go for it. But if you're on the hunt for something better than the tc95 then you're gonna have to look elsewhere.
Hyper G I imagine would go well in almost any frame. Its such a good feeling string. My problem is that it's hard to find a string I don't like so it's hard for me to narrow down my go to setup. I have a bunch of typhoon, black fire, and Tonic so I'm hoping that the whole gut/poly thing will work out.

unfortunately the ra value is only a vague indicator of the feel of a frame and since different people have different perceptions, you will only know how an angel feels if YOU played it

mmm, I sense a contradiciton here. Is RA rating a subjective or objective thing?

The RA rating is the actual flex measurement of the frame. It's a factual number.

"Feel" is a subjective thing, so a 65 flex may feel soft to you and stiff to another. These measured spec numbers are only meant as a guideline and personal testing is always the best way to know for sure.

Just what Jack wrote: RA flex is a number...a comparative figure, if you like. How and where does the racquet flex, however, you have to feel by your on hands.

thanks, very very few people have hit with the tc95, h22 and 95d... not looking but always curious. I liken it to wine tasting... you are fine till you start climbing up the ladder of quality and your pallet becomes educated. Nice to have another consider the tc95 a great vintage, im not hyping this stick just conveying my experience... I just enjoy comparing things and experiences (i write about such things professionally).

i used to use toughgut mains and silverstring crosses... im not really s gut guy as i prefer a very dead stringbed.... that was my attempt at plushing up an IGPMP.

Tc95 is pretty plush no matter what is in it. not max200g plush but moving in that direction

Are there any pros using Angell besides TT stick collectors?
No, but that's because Angell isn't paying any pros to use them. Head, Babolat, and Wilson all make the highest quality racquets for their pros to use and pay them to do so, so playing with an Angell wouldn't be an upgrade for them. For the most part, though, the big brands aren't selling those same high quality sticks to the masses. Angell is.

Hi guys,
Playing with the 95 18X20. I am probably one of the few who play with full gut. I have a history of arm problems. Struggling with figuring out the best tension. It would be easier if I had two sticks. Would love to try the open pattern but that would not help me figure out the gut tension. I currently have it strung at 54/52. I am having it restrung tomorrow. Is there anyone out there playing with full gut and have had it strung a number of times. I hit with some spin but more flat. Any recommendations? I am able to control it mostly at 54/52 but think stringing it a little higher will give more a tad more control but do not like stiff string beds. So perhaps stringing it at 56/53 will help a bit.
Any recommendations? Lastly, BC still contemplating buying the closed pattern? How come? I want to get a second Angel so curious. Thanks in advance

I have WC Silverstring 1.20 in my 63RA 18x20 at 60lb. I think you can easily go way up with full gut.

Well Ive been playing tennis for 42 years... most have been with an 18x20 (only the last 4 plus 1 year in college have been exceptions).

I do like the directional control and since Im a big returner that is far more amplified. Still the 16x19 is working out so well... I have a match tomorrow and Ill see how the TC95 16x19 works with RS Lyon in it. I really like the feel of that string... like ultra dead syn gut with some pocketing. I plan to string up my old IG Prestige MP (which feels stiff compared to the tc95) just to give me a little comparison.

Are there any pros using Angell besides TT stick collectors?
Unlikely since Angell is a relatively new company... before that Paul Angell was running Dunlops pro stock program... those sticks James Blake kept using because nobody could duplicate them?... those were designed and made by Paul... somewhat similar to the TC97 he introduced last year. Do I care if pros are using them, no. Later this summer Ill be playing with and against some former tour doubles players, I'll get their impressions and hopefully I wont embarass myself too much... Ive hit with male futures players and elite 6.0 women before, ummm yeah they are human... just you have to hit 3-5 really really good shots in a row to hope to have a point... its going to come back and playing with truly talented players makes you aware of just how consistency and being in position can be a weapon. When they want to kill you they just run you corner to corner so you have to have a killer DTL response, you simply cant beat them with footwork (playing with them will expose and inform your footwork though).

The point is Angell gives us what only the pros seem to be able to get... somewhat more flexible higher quality material made frames. The fact that buying from Paul actually gets you a consultation is also a major plus... He's worked with Mac, Steffi, Haas, Blake. He knows more about making/designing tennis racquets and what pros like than I can begin to fathom. Im a pro in my field and appreciate the same service is available to my non-pro but important "to me" game. My arm appreciates it too.

Well I have been played as long as you with the exception of a ten year hiatus after my daughter was born. Thanks for your thoughts. Any input on the tension. It is so hard when I do not have rackets strung at different tension. I have tried hybrids with polys and really like the set up but my arm does not. So better to stay with gut and be able to play tennis.

Recently acquired a TC100 70ra. Hit with it tonight and it was surprisingly plush for a 70ra. Nothing like a Babolat PD or APD with a 70ra probably due to the foam fill. Bit firmer than my 97 but in a good way. The 100 is 20g lighter than my 97 so maybe not a direct comparison. The feeling you get from Angell frames is unparalleled.

I played with full gut for the first 4-5 months with my TC97. The string pattern may make a measurable difference, but I had to go as high as mid-60s to be able to consistently control the ball with full gut. For the past 5-6 weeks, I switched to NG in the mains and poly in the crosses, I am having better time with spin and control, but I still string in the low 60s to tame the power.

I had a 16 year hiatus after an injury in college myself and when I came back basically had to re-engineer my game... patterned my new forehand after Soderling's and found out Guga made use of an extreme eastern BH with full poly strings. Basically a lot had changed and I got serious about movement/agility training (I had my ACL reconstructed and it holds up great).

I use full poly at 45 lbs... I bet full gut at 55-60lbs would be great in an 18x20 (Paul would know better of course). Pacific classic is really nice and Ive used Pacific tough gut (because I dont like gut that much, too sproingy). VS changed their construction method and many swear by Wilson's gut.

That's because it is really 64-65RA strung... and the foam... and the D cross section throat which is a very plush design that dampens vibrations... and the quality materials

Angell is the only frame maker with such an experienced and pedigreed engineer that literally oversees all elements of production and works hard to source them consistently. When other frame makers are all over their map with models and quality control Angell is like a great chef. Consistently so. If you get a frame 4 years apart it will match, play wise.

TW should carry the Tour series but I can see why Paul might not want to do that.

Backhanded compliment, how do you compare wc silverstring with rslyon?
Silverstring is crisper and less muted, has slightly more power and less spin. Both hold tension and playability a long time 10+ hours. Feel on both is great for a poly and RSlyon has more ball pocketing sensation.

Silverstring is the poly all first time poly users should consider... not the best at anything but pretty good in most categories. RSlyon is for people who really like to crush the ball... a pure ball strikers string.

Does Angell ever have any promotions/discounts?
sometimes if you get 2 or more there will be a bag or a discount. But mostly because it is a show run by Paul he's mostly just trying to keep up with demand... the 63RA TC95 16x19 is hard to keep in stock.

Basically this is all just one vast conspiracy to keep Paul very busy... ok not so vast or conspirational but he's busy and I'm certain his family appreciates it or else he'd be redesigning the dishwasher and retrofitting the family station wagon with carbon fiber panels. An idle engineer is a dangerous thing.

Wish I could settle on a round poly for my TC95 63RA. Getting strung right now with Pro Line Revolution. And have packs of Head hawk and Wilson Revolve waiting in tow.

Yeah string testing can get to be pretty tedious. Did you try Hyper G yet? Im liking RS Lyon, Ive got a match tomorrow so Ill know more after that.

I have tried Hyper-G which is a nice soft string with a good spin on my old TC97 but not on the TC95 63RA. RS Lyon is very good but I am hoping for something with a bit more spin potential

I just polarized my TC95 a tad more and RS Lyon is acting spinnier now... Ill find out tommorow... last time I played him I had SSO in and I played very badly... I was in control of almost every point and I simply missed my putaways (ugg). The SSO was dead too so I was double faulting (by 3 inches consistently)... my own fault, didnt have enough sleep either (never helps for serving, first thing to go).

I am actually adding a gram @12 on my frame with this sting job and see how it feels. RS Lyon does serve quite good although kick serves are not as pronounced as others. Your accuracy though will go up with this string
