It has been clear for years that the World Tour Finals are no longer fit for purpose. The changing nature of the men's game -the longer matches, the more punishing rallies, the sheer repetitiveness of the strokes and the injuries they cause- means that it has become a tournament that is usually won by the last fit player standing, instead of the best player of the year.
Add to that the fact that it is played on a surface and environment that clearly favours certain players, and it really has become a joke in recent years.
No one really remembers, nor cares, who wins. What a difference from the 70s.
Time to scrap it?
Why stop there? We should all just go fishing after the clay is over, no?Agree and really the season should be over after US open. I don’t watch the end of the year exhibition tournaments they are a joke and the top players don’t really care.
@Spencer Gore please starting posting here tooI'm surprise that he's still around.
Why would you wish that on those poor old guys over there? They should be left in peace.@Spencer Gore please starting posting here too:

They're going to love you.

I've certainly been around from before the time Federer internet-fanatics tried to get anyone who doesn't bow down before their god, banned.
The salt in former pro will be astronomical with the Big 4 in there. Why would you wish that on those poor old guys over there? They should be left in peace.
They're gonna get blown out so hard when Fedal retire though.
Nothing to do with who wins it. I think it has been invalidated for years, even though Federer and Djoko were winning. It's become about who is the best-uninjured player, rather than the best player. Wrong time of year, wrong set-up, wrong surface.
it's not doing tennis any favours to have such a shambolic tournament.
Just like all your posts! You want to ban a thread that asks whether the World Tour Finals, in their current format, should be scrapped?

Right you are. Once Nadal stops winning, it should obviously be wraps. Everyone stops watching anyway. Not at all that’s your silly talk. I clearly said the US open which is when the season is really over. You notice that the holiday consolation tournament is hardly carried on TV?
That’s because nobody watches it’s nothing but a glorified all star game.
Just teasing Spencer Gore... you certainly have a right to your opinions and to share your ideas here. You want to ban a thread that asks whether the World Tour Finals, in their current format, should be scrapped?

Its teasing. Red Rick isn't really gonna report you. (I don't think)You want to ban a thread that asks whether the World Tour Finals, in their current format, should be scrapped?

Can we quantify that though?WTF Murray >>>>> WTF Nadal
They all care and have said many times how much they careAgree and really the season should be over after US open. I don’t watch the end of the year exhibition tournaments they are a joke and the top players don’t really care.
Shhhh. Get out of here, real tennis didn't start until 2010.Maybe it's time to scrap year-long conditions suited to defensive grinding instead.
You don't have to stop anywhere if the entire tour is played only on the real natural surface right? Red clay......Why stop there? We should all just go fishing after the clay is over, no?

That has only been true of slams this season, which I agree has been a mess. But the story of the tour finals has been a tale of injuries for too long. If it isn't players pulling out before the tournament it's players pulling out during it, or pulling out before the final. When was the last time a player pulled out of a slam final with an injury?
