trivia on Jim Courier

Moose Malloy

just read this on the atp site, I never would have guessed he was the last player to do this:

"Also through to the doubles final (w/ Robredo), Nadal is looking to become the second player in ATP Masters Series history (since 1990) to win both singles and doubles titles. Jim Courier won both in Indian Wells in 1991."

Looking up his draws at Indian Wells that year, he beat Forget in both the singles & doubles finals that year

I don't know the answer to that question, but back around 98 or so I saw Courier and Mark P. beat the Woodies at Indian Wells, he could play the game.

INteresting, Moose, good find, man.

I recall, in the late 80s and early 90s Rock and Pete played a lot of tournaments together. Did decently in dubs, even though that was not their main focus.

I also remember him playing with Bruguera, who later became a real rival at Roland Garros. Strange combination there, but cool.

I remember reading, in their last years as pros, Jim and Andre played dubs together. Can't see that going very well. Jim's good at everything, but it'd seem he's need a decent volleyer up there.

He won eitehr Monte Carlo or Rome with Pete Sampras in 1990. I think. It was mentioned long ago.

He partnered with Budwiser when he got his DUI in Athens, Ga. years ago. Allegedly.
