another demo story by one of my players:
beginner adult but experienced in squash. fun fact: most people coming from squash or badminton prefer to learn one-handed backhand. More natural.

gave him Angell TC95 16x19 (just because I could lol), Diadem Elevate, Head Speed MP, Radical MP 360+, Tecnifibre Iga, Head Extreme Tour and Prestige MP 360+ (just because I could x2). He also took previous version Speed MP somewhere and Pro Staff with very weird string pattern I don't remember...

out of this list he enjoyed the most previous ver. Speed MP (lower SW) , Radical MP 360+ and Tecnifibre Iga. Newest speed mp felt a bit bulky on his backhand. Radical was nice and so the Tecnifibre Iga which was the easiest to perform well with it. Kinda like a cross between Speed MP and Radical MP but with a bit lower SW. He also enjoyed Tecnifibre PJ much more than Radical.

ordered Tfight RS300. He would be totally happy with Iga but I suggested to take that 2 grams heavier, a bit softer and thinner at the bridge version. Basicly Iga's racquet but male edition ? We will see but let me tell you that I was enjoying Iga racquet A LOT! Much more fun to play with than Speed MP,Radical MP or even Extreme Tour.

@galapagos What string do you prefer or would you prefer in the diadem elevate? Based on your string review I think I’ll have to try firestorm 1,3 and solstice power 1,3. I was also thinking of black knight 1,28 and/ or tour status 1,3 but I notice you don’t prefer BK at all. Additional strings you like very much (silver 7 tour, razor code, lynx tour, bbo) all are a bit to stiff for me I think.
But first of all i still need to hit some balls with it. This weekend I had some indoor league matches and my opponents were OK so not a good opportunity to try the diadem out. And I was actually thinking why did i bought this thing considering i really like my PK. But I owe it to myself to at least try a foam filled racquet that can compete with angell custom line right ; )?!

i am now testing firestorm 1.30 in diadem elevate to compare it directly with angell tc95. similar specs, same string setups and tension... interesting comparison. For now I can say that I can imagine 1.25 strings to play very well in Diadem while in Angell it's very very hard to find one... in tc95 the only 1.25 strings that worked were Mayami Tour Hex 1.23, Solinco Tour Bite 1.25 and....that's it xD (haven't tried confidential 1.25 or Soderling Lyon)

Also I think due to slightly lower SW or frame in general I would drop the tension a bit lower on Elevate compared to Angell. That one more cross string is keeping the stringbed more in place. So from 24kg/23kg to 23/23kg or 23kg/22kg (1.30 firestorm).

i am now testing firestorm 1.30 in diadem elevate to compare it directly with angell tc95. similar specs, same string setups and tension... interesting comparison. On the 18x20 patterns I dropped 4lbs (~1.5-2kg) or more, to make it work in a similar elastic manner to a 16x19. Still the ball angle off the plate is flatter but with more power and spin than the original for equal tension=strings.

Yonex Regna 98 is the ultimate for me... I have many raquets and love switching but always come back to the Regna that feels the best and has the perfect weight, SW and balance of control and power to me....

Always take this one for tournaments!!

Where you mean where i add lead? i customize myself and i Just added some lead to the handle to make it heavier but headlight. However i miss some plow from tc95. I can feel it mostly on serve and backhand

It helps if you are coming from speed or gravity line. Speed pro 18x20 , gravity pro 18x20, prestige pro 18x20 control lineup

then you enter different lineup of frames with radical pro , extreme pro being most demanding but also rewarding with 16x19.

Haha I just saw your later reply about decision. I’m also playing radical mp now and love you review for radical. I have more aggressive game with radical mp. Feel confident to apply more power on groundstroke. However I feel radical mp been a bit harsh compared with extreme tour/speed line.

ANGELL TC95 18x20 63ra REVIEW

This frame should enter hall of fame. But can it be a good choice in modern era?

I purchased my first angell many years ago. Mainly because how much I was frustrated with Wilson's QC. Blade 2015 18x20 was my last dance. Before that I was flirting with Yonex Ezone DR. I think Blade actually was a better racquet than Ezone (more complete and solid but messing with my wrist).
In general Angell had a golden era of popularity when pretty much all other brands managed to destroy their lines. Graphene Prestige MP ? Garbage. Then Wilson countervail? Garbage. Yonex Ezone something? (worse than AI and DR). On top of that you had to play with QC issues so in general Angell was pretty much the obvious and the only choice left on the table.

First TC95 18x20 - 320g/310mm/grip A L3/305 SW

wow! now we are talking SOLIDNESS but comfortable, control but also great power potential. Stability (almost everything at 305 SW is stable enough probably haha)
It made me forget about the blade 2015 and it was much easier on my wrist. Even after adding mass to the blade it still felt weird. I think Blade is best when played in stock or with slight mods like leather grip. Tailweighing blade is making it less stable to the point where it's no longer a "blade racquet".

So Angell TC95 with my specs allowed me to feel the racquet the way I want to feel it and with the performance closer to Blade (than prestige for example). Many also compared this racquet to Pro staff line and they have a point here.

Later I decided to add even more mass to the handle to make it more headlight. Oh boy. I can see it in Del Potro hands. But as I don't play everyday and don't do physical preparation I had to let it go. It was too demanding for my shoulder.

I tried later 315g/310 balance 290 SW tc95 but it was totally different racquet. garbage lol...I learned two things - Angell TC95 loves weight. It has to be heavy. Otherwise stability drops like crazy.
So I tried 320g/310mm with some different SW configurations and learned that my favourites were between 293-298 SW unstrung.

I also tried 320g/305mm and that was also interesting !

A grip was also too traditional for me. B much more familiar. They say Tecnifibre have traditional grips...well then A grip from angell is even more B is like Wilson or modern Head.

I would say the only thing where it could improve is spin potential and forgiveness (all custom angells have that problem). I think the biggest reason for that is the 95" headsize. It's small but not like I have problems hitting it clean but the sweet spot is kinda demanding.
You need to be focused all the time but the response is probably ONE OF THE BEST out there. It's super consistent but also very sensitive. If you hit it good, you know it. If you hit it slightly bad, you will also know it. So it's not really helping you play good but it is telling you when you are playing well so you can focus on "recreating" that specific movements. Great teacher for advanced players.

and its fully custom! You can recreate your specs after x years and have the same racquet. I respect that.

Even though there are frames that give you "more and easier" I kinda like that TC95 18x20 is demanding. I improved my game, my awareness and results. Knowing that I am playing with the specs of my choice is also helpful When the game is too easy you can start to play around and get sloppy. All of the sudden your technique collapses and honeymoon is gone. Back to the market looking for another "solution" racquet

Great review! Since you gave the elevate non tour a 7,5 that one must be good (I still need to hit with it…and I have an angell 95 18/20 as well). I get the feeling you will give the tc95 16/19 63 at least a 7.6 ; )

Ye i prefer regular diadem because it was more forgiving and with more action on the ball. However its a bit too light in stock form so you need to customize it i think…i will try to play with it stock but with much lower tension to see how it responds. For example radical mp is a great stick that you can string with smaller tension. Blade 18x20 probably another example - goffin is stringing at like 22kg/21kg.
If you compare the overal solidness and ball heaviness then angell tc95 is killling diadem elevate but diadem is definitely more user friendly and more fun to play with. I believe some customization gurus can make it as solid as other angells but i am not one of them

I agree that the Diadem elevate is just a bit easier to play with than both the TC95 18m and 16m.
I ordered my Elevates closely matched (310 grams 31.8mm 291.5 SW unstrung) and I customized them with about 10 grams of screws into the foam under the buttcap and 4 grams at 10 and 2. With this setup they are as solid as my TC95s.
Maybe the TC95 has a slightly better feel because of the thinner beam but the Diadem is great as well in this regard.

Yes totally 4 grams. 4x4 inches long of 1/4" lead tape centered at 10 and 2 (see picture). This addition feels really good with my serves and overheads.
First I tried 2 grams but 4 grams feels even better to me. ;-)
Counterbalance if you feel it is too cumbersome. Even when you would suggest the static weight will be too high. It really felt more maneuverable when I added a little bit more weight into the handle.

Man this was an entertaining thread. Have you stopped testing and settled on something yet? Hoping you or anyone else can advise me on my journey

I'm in a position where having too many frames is making me nuts. I like them all in their own way, like a father to his children . But now I'm getting stressed out from having to pick one from way too many every session, from having to adapt all the time, and from having all strings become dead because I play less than I can rotate through them.

About me - ˜4.0 with regards to technique, ˜3.5 with regards to results because I lack consistency and am always the first one to miss. I play from a very young age, and do it just for fun now. I'm not competitive at all and not in it for results, but for the exercise and friendships. I'm more of a baseliner, hit with spin 90-95% of the time, and have little patience for long rallies. Most of the points tend to end with me trying to blast a winner from the baseline. I'll go to the net every now and then when I get a short ball - but not too much because I suck at volleying and at 5"7 I always get lobbed.

This is what I have in order of oldest to most recent purchase:

1. Gravity Tour - I bought it because I loved the feel of the Pro but couldn't handle it over an hour. I love it and played with it consistently for 6 months. I love the feel and forgiveness, but the lack of maneuverability with that giant awkwardly shaped head was starting to bother me a bit, especially on the OHBH. Could also use a little more free spin. The racquet actually improved a lot with weight in the throat, as it reduced the wobble.
2. Extreme Tour - Bought it because people were raging about it and I found it super cheap on a black friday deal last year. Absolutely loved the feel from the get-go. It felt a little more solid than the Gravity Tour due to the higher stiffness, but while still retaining that distinct Head buttery feel. Started hitting way more consistently with it, and the launch angle and free spin helped me a lot. I actually love this frame, and my only pickle is that the ball has no weight behind it, and lands shorter than I wish. It's like it spins the ball too much and slows it down. It's more controlled than the Gravity Tour IMO.
3. Speed MP 360+ - Bought it because Karue from My Tennis HQ always says it's the best line Head has, and I got curious. I absolutely love the feel, and it gives me so much freaking power for free. Changing from the ET to this one, results-wise it was way better. My balls were landing deeper, with heavy spin. Not much to dislike about it, maybe it has a little too much power.
4. Blade Pro 16x19 - Bought it because I found a pair with 309g/315mm/298SW unstrung and that's my spot on with what I like. This racquet is a monster. Feels extremely nice, hits with a ton of power and spin. It's like the Speed MP on steroids. My issue with it is that it's way more demanding. Your legs have to be up for the footwork. Since I've been on and off due to injuries, and am quite out of shape, it hasn't left my bag that much. For some reason it's way more cumbersome to swing than my other racquets (which are almost all customized to the same 330SW strung). If you don't time the ball perfectly and add plenty of spin, it goes straight to the backfence.
5. Tecnifibre RS 300 - Bought it because there was also a lot of local rage with it as to how well-rounded and easy to play with it was.. and I found a good deal. I have a really hard time faulting this racquet. It does everything very well, is extremely easy to play, and even with no customization it plays just fine, which is a relief given I'm out of shape. My one pickle with it is that I just love that buttery feel Head has, and this one is crisper/stiffer. It's the one that's been making it out of my bag the most because it's just easier to use.
6. Phantom 100X 305 - Bought it because of a TW sale and I was always curious about it. I only played it twice. Feels extremely nice and buttery, you need to apply a lot of spin, and it has decent power, more than I thought it would. Not much else to add here. I like the feel of it better than the RS300, but the truth is that this one is actually tougher on my arm because I have to really whack the ball over and over again.

So there you go, now I have a pair of each of these frames and absolutely no freaking clue what to do, or what process to follow to try and narrow down to maybe only 2 pairs. I love them all and am very attached to them. But this is a case where having too many is going against me, too much anxiety.

Bruno, you have good rackets all of them. I have also gone through many choices but have been able to narrow my preference.
What part of your game is your wining combo ? Start there. The right number for me at my age "ideally" is 3 rackets (same identical) 2 with preferred tension and one with more control. I am narrowing down to that and have tried many hybrid combos. I prefer Gut/multi or Gut/softpoly. It works,.. and am able to concentrate on the aspects of the game that cannot be bought.

What part of your game is your wining combo ? Start there. The right number for me at my age "ideally" is 3 rackets (same identical) 2 with preferred tension and one with more control. I am narrowing down to that and have tried many hybrid combos. I prefer Gut/multi or Gut/softpoly. It works,.. and am able to concentrate on the aspects of the game that cannot be bought.

I would say my slice serve (being a lefty) and my forehand. And my backhand is a serious weakness. Not sure whether to optimize for the strengths or get something to make my weakness less of an issue. Or whether to just pick whatever feels nicer at impact since I’m not too competitive.

You can make your life as complicated as you wish by switching rackets but I would pick the one that feels best. Especially if you don't care about results.

Top feel, very stable without feeling clunky. Very good around the net and for setting up a FH down the line and then move on to the net. Need to dial in my service a bit because of the lower balance I’m used to and i need to work harder to win points than with my pk q+5 pro (doppio). I agree with gee and Galapagos it needs some more weight (but not that much on the head). For now I think I will Add some more to the bottom of the handle. I also want to restring with full 1.3 poly because the yptp in it is too soft. @galapagos would you try firestorm or confidential first (both of them lying around..)? I am currently using firestorm 1.30 in Elevate and this string plays better in angell tc95. It tamed Elevate too much for me with smaller spin that i have from tc95. Confidential sounds better. Yes I think you're right. I forgot the Q+5 Pro seems to be 67RA strung. A lotter stiffer than I'm used to.

Man this was an entertaining thread. Have you stopped testing and settled on something yet? Hoping you or anyone else can advise me on my journey

I'm in a position where having too many frames is making me nuts. I like them all in their own way, like a father to his children . But now I'm getting stressed out from having to pick one from way too many every session, from having to adapt all the time, and from having all strings become dead because I play less than I can rotate through them.

About me - ˜4.0 with regards to technique, ˜3.5 with regards to results because I lack consistency and am always the first one to miss. I play from a very young age, and do it just for fun now. I'm not competitive at all and not in it for results, but for the exercise and friendships. I'm more of a baseliner, hit with spin 90-95% of the time, and have little patience for long rallies. Most of the points tend to end with me trying to blast a winner from the baseline. I'll go to the net every now and then when I get a short ball - but not too much because I suck at volleying and at 5"7 I always get lobbed.

This is what I have in order of oldest to most recent purchase:

1. Gravity Tour - I bought it because I loved the feel of the Pro but couldn't handle it over an hour. I love it and played with it consistently for 6 months. I love the feel and forgiveness, but the lack of maneuverability with that giant awkwardly shaped head was starting to bother me a bit, especially on the OHBH. Could also use a little more free spin. The racquet actually improved a lot with weight in the throat, as it reduced the wobble.
2. Extreme Tour - Bought it because people were raging about it and I found it super cheap on a black friday deal last year. Absolutely loved the feel from the get-go. It felt a little more solid than the Gravity Tour due to the higher stiffness, but while still retaining that distinct Head buttery feel. Started hitting way more consistently with it, and the launch angle and free spin helped me a lot. I actually love this frame, and my only pickle is that the ball has no weight behind it, and lands shorter than I wish. It's like it spins the ball too much and slows it down. It's more controlled than the Gravity Tour IMO.
3. Speed MP 360+ - Bought it because Karue from My Tennis HQ always says it's the best line Head has, and I got curious. I absolutely love the feel, and it gives me so much freaking power for free. Changing from the ET to this one, results-wise it was way better. My balls were landing deeper, with heavy spin. Not much to dislike about it, maybe it has a little too much power.
4. Blade Pro 16x19 - Bought it because I found a pair with 309g/315mm/298SW unstrung and that's my spot on with what I like. This racquet is a monster. Feels extremely nice, hits with a ton of power and spin. It's like the Speed MP on steroids. My issue with it is that it's way more demanding. Your legs have to be up for the footwork. Since I've been on and off due to injuries, and am quite out of shape, it hasn't left my bag that much. For some reason it's way more cumbersome to swing than my other racquets (which are almost all customized to the same 330SW strung). If you don't time the ball perfectly and add plenty of spin, it goes straight to the backfence.
5. Tecnifibre RS 300 - Bought it because there was also a lot of local rage with it as to how well-rounded and easy to play with it was.. and I found a good deal. I have a really hard time faulting this racquet. It does everything very well, is extremely easy to play, and even with no customization it plays just fine, which is a relief given I'm out of shape. My one pickle with it is that I just love that buttery feel Head has, and this one is crisper/stiffer. It's the one that's been making it out of my bag the most because it's just easier to use.
6. Phantom 100X 305 - Bought it because of a TW sale and I was always curious about it. I only played it twice. Feels extremely nice and buttery, you need to apply a lot of spin, and it has decent power, more than I thought it would. Not much else to add here. I like the feel of it better than the RS300, but the truth is that this one is actually tougher on my arm because I have to really whack the ball over and over again.

So there you go, now I have a pair of each of these frames and absolutely no freaking clue what to do, or what process to follow to try and narrow down to maybe only 2 pairs. I love them all and am very attached to them. But this is a case where having too many is going against me, too much anxiety.

sounds like the only racquet missing is Radical MP 360+. It's somewhere in between Speed MP+ and Blade. It's also quite similar to Tecnifibre Iga that I have but a bit heavier with slightly different feel. Hard to say the difference in feel since Radical is just softer while Iga (and RS300) are foam filled. Radical is slightly heavier but has more control while RS/IGA is easier to play with (more power and spin potential). I think every Radical 360+ fan will enjoy Tecnifibre RS300 / Iga and next stop from there in terms of heavier but more rewarding is of course Wilson Blade.

I just tested a later Blade 16x19... and tuned for client... not good for me, client likes it and bought a 2nd now. Weird torsional stiffness like many others, ex: Babos'

tc95 18x20 vs 16x19?

I had already like 3x 18x20 angells at that time so I pretty much purchased 16x19 without any expectations. Just for fun I heard horror stories about very high launch angle but great spin potential. I am a flat hitter so higher launch angle really was something to be scared of
First experence:
I used Volkl Cyclone 1.30 at 24/24kg as my first demo and wow!

The launch angle wasn't AS big as I was expecting it to be. Of course it is higher than all 18x20 racquets and a bit higher than tighter 16x19 like blade or radical but with 1.30 gauges it's ok.

So first lesson learned - angell 16x19 pattern likes 1.30 gauges !!!! I tried some 1.25 or 1.23 but always coming back to 1.30... The best strings thinner yet still working were Mayami Tour Hex (1.23) and Solinco Tour Bite (1.25)

I got more spin potential on my forehand than with 18x20 version. Serves improved, especially top spin serves. I got a bit more forgiveness - it was easier to perform better under pressure.

slices were getting more bite (but with slightly higher launch), backhand was the only thing that suffered and it took me some time to adjust to it. I was not getting enough "drive" compared to 18x20 tc95.

So ye, 1.30 strings really make the launch angle tolerable for flat hitter or someone coming from a tight string patterns. HOWEVER it's still noticable.
After I finished testing Speed Pro 360+ (great stick!) and came back to tc95 16x19 during same session I had trouble keeping the ball inside the lines. This "racquet" just doesn't like if you are cheating on her You will have to take some time, maybe even buy a small gift or flowers and you are all good and ready to rock on again !

It's my favourite Angell frame and everytime I find a good switchable racquet I come to conclusion that yee i could switch but i don't have to.

this frame is still demanding. You get bigger sweet spot and spin potential from 16x19 but at the same time launch angle is slightly harder to control.
With 18x20 the launch angle is perfect but spin potential and sweet spot are slightly smaller. I simply was winning more and easier with 16x19. Also I could take a stand vs better players than me because 16x19 angell has that "x" factor that can surprise out of nowhere.
The response at the same time is so predictable. You just need to learn it and use it wisely. But I think it's pretty much applicable to every 95" frames.

Feel - one of the best on the market. It's solid, definitely not muted so many can find it even harsh but for me it's very comfortable and I put every stiff string in it without any fear Great for touch shots since there is no "dampened" feel YET foam takes out negative vibrations. It's a standout feature.

Specs control - game changer on the market. I changed from Wilson to Angell EXACTLY FOR THAT reason. I pick up the frame and I don't have to worry about the specs. And I can purchase another frame after x years with same specs. It's pretty much a pro-stock experience. Normally we would have to pay like 20-50 euro more for all the customizations? Finding your specs might take a while but worth it. I recommend tc95 with as heavy specs as you can handle with a headlight balance. Small headsizes like that extra mass. It wakes up the frame by a lot.

2.Tecnifibre RS305 has that very specific similar feel. Maybe a bit softer!

Nice review. I just bought and played with the TC95 16x19 myself for the first time, definitely gives you more spin and pop than a traditional box beam racquet. I also don't feel like it's completely wild, although launch angle is definitely higher than e.g. a Pt2.0.

Yap, tc97 18x20 and 16x19. Same specs as tc95 for the ultimate comparison+ My friend has tc97 310g/315 balance so i am falimiar with that as well
overall good racquet, definitely going into radical territory. Some might say prestige/pt57a… i prefer tc95 as it feels better. I will get to that racquet too!

hard to say almost always something to improve. from best racquets: Prestige could be more responsive, RS305 could have different weight distribution, Speed Pro could be slightly thinner, Angell could be more forgiving with tighter string pattern, Gravity Pro could have slightly different weight distribution, Blade could have better quality control and some felt really heavy on my wrist, Diadem Elevate could have slightly bigger SW.

Are you guys excited about TF40 v2 launch ? foam filled, great paintjobs, specs look good. What else to want ?

I will see this week, the demos are coming. As with any racket, I will tested throughly and compare to known frames, including Tecnifibre previous versions. Hopefully the tensions on the demos are right... then is less an issue.

You got all the models? I am thinking about TF40 315g 16x19 and 18x20. But TF40 18x20 305g looking good too. RINDERKNECH is endorsing that one.
