Anyone going this year? I’ll be there at Ashe for Friday night session Aug 30 and Sunday day session Sept 1. If you see a guy in a Vollaix shirt, 99% chance it’s me. Hope to see others there!

Any word on major racket manufacturers showing off their Latest line of rackets and tennis shoes ? I am wondering if Yonex is bringing their new Eclipsion 3's ? I can't wait til those come out. Can you ask the Yonex guys there and get back to us ?

I’ll look around for the yonex tent when I get there. I use a yonex Vcore pro97 so I’m dying to see the new paintjob in person.

If you’re in NYC this week, the qualifying is the best ticket in town. It’s Free and you can see some great tennis up close.

I'm bought the Opening Days ticket plan so I'll be at the US Open for both sessions on Monday and Tuesday and the day session on Wednesday. Any suggestions on things to do on the tournament grounds when I'm not sitting for matches and restaurants to visit that don't break the bank and are close by?

At the food carts outside the grounds, or load up on breakfast at a columbian place beforehand.

My experience in the past is that the food prep has been horrendously slow, and of course the prices are ridiculous.

Keep in mind this is a 2 week tournament run once per year. The employees are basically all temps. I waited 30 minute for a hamburger a few years back. Waste of time.

Have tix for friday day. I know during the week, the put the big players (Djoker, Fed, Nadal, Sererna, etc.) on night matches in Ashe. On the weekend, they put them on Day matches, and often the saturday and sunday Ashe night matches are lesser known players....
What about friday night? Since Fed plays today (monday) - do you think he will play Friday day or night?

Just an update, I went yesterday and the situation with wait times for food was a lot better near the grandstand. Again, it seemed like one person on the whole staff seemed to know what they were doing "don't stop making ANYTHING until i tell you to stop". Ie, the guys in the back make a batch of hamburgers, and then stand there with their thumbs up their you know whats until someone tells them to make more. Meanwhile there is a huge line and the ones you've just made have basically already sold or will sell once the angry people standing at the counter get what they ordered.

When I walked over by the insanity that is the main food section, that seemed like an ugly scene like I dealt with a few years back. Just too many damn people in that area between armstrong and Ash. .

And then the food situation by court 17 is even better than the grandstand. Unfortunately, the lines to get into court 17 were just too long to make any sense so I spent little time over there.

I liked the new grandstand court. I watched Venus in Armstrong and thought it was much better than Ash that I've been to once before....didn't seem to be many bad seats at all and there's a cool atmosphere in there.

$20 for piece of cheese ????????? LOL. I am lactose intolerant so I have to pay $20 to have massive explosive diarrhea ? sounds like a ripoff to me.

Unfortunately for people who bought grounds passes yesterday, they basically got to watch no tennis. I can't imagine how many people tried to cram into the unreserved seats at Armstrong.

In that way, even though the upper levels of Ash blow badly, at least you are guaranteed a seat if it rains during day sessions.

today would have been a great day to have grounds pass. So many matches scheduled.

My wife and I try to go every year (we are local), Went Monday and it was a picture perfect day. I no longer bother with Ashe tickets. Been in Grand Stand reserved seating the last few years, and that is great. You don't get to see the huge names, but you get decent matches most of the time. And I can sit courtside with amazing seats for pennies on the dollar for similar seats in Ashe. We also love the outer courts. You can get SO close to the action. Watching 50 vs. 60 in the world is still great tennis.

The food is expensive, but it is what it is (you are a captive audience), unless you bring your own (you are allowed to bring soft coolers under a certain size). Amex is running a spend $100, get $20 back campaign, so we took advantage of that and saved ourselves a bit. The food isn't great (although a step above most "fast food") and can have timing issues, especially if you are trying to eat at peak times.

The rest of the experience is great. The grounds are clean and well maintained. The staff are helpful and the tennis is world class.

How much is it to sit in first 10 rows at Arthur ash stadium ?
Face value? Believe around $1500-2000

e.g. for today's night session you can get them for $700 ish... still a lot of money lol.... in the qualify week you can watch the big name practice from the first row for free lol.... got Wawrinka to sign my shoe 1 time after his practice..

ways to sit down there without paying arm and leg -

- find some sponsor tickets from like IBM etc... lots of companies sponsor, you might know somebody who knows somebody lol;
- buy a ground pass and slip the security guy a bill lol;
- night sessions low hours - say no big name playing etc, the TV guys want the lower seats to look full so they will get people down from the higher sections.

by the way past Friday I went for the qualies, then went across the street for the Mets/Braves... sat 3rd row club VIP seats (somebody who knows somebody lol... my son plays for the Mets :)

Dumb question I should know after going multiple times...can you exit and return with a grounds pass or other tickets?

There are cart vendors in Corona park and places to grab food about 10-15 minute walk from the grounds in Corona. It's a mostly Latino neighborhood so you can get a pretty cheap and filling lunch at a Columbian place. I got 2 hot dogs and 2 cans of soda for 10 bucks at the cart near the unisphere. That's a markup from normal NYC hot dog carts but still cheaper than inside the grounds.

I can't believe how freaking cheap some people are.
The food is $15 for something you typically pay $8 for.
Deal with it. Taking a 1 hour detour to save $7 is insanity.

If you wait until after 7pm, you can score a ticket for $25.
Get to the event and hope it works out, and miss the first 30 mins.
Seems like a great deal, since there are 2 matches.

Just got back from a few days at the Open and those days pretty much solidified that we are not going back. The grounds are grossly oversold and it is just wall to wall people no matter where you are. Only two matches in Ashe means the grounds get even more packed after 4:00. USTA doesn’t care about the fans they care about pulling in more cash.

Wait, why do the grounds get more packed at 4pm?
By then, outside matches are mostly over, no?

Oh, you mean the 12pm Ashe matches are over by 4pm
and that crowd spills into the outer courts for the last bits.

Sorry, yes the grounds and outside courts get more packed after 4:00/4:30 after the two Ashe matches wrap up. The days I was there outside court play was going on until about 9:00.

Have you been previously? This is how the event works. There are 20+ courts, almost all with a decent amount of seating. Should they let in just half of their capacity so you have a less crowded experience? The beauty of the event is the ability to move around and experience multiple matches on multiple courts with very few restrictions. No unreserved seats in Ashe, so you NEED a ticket to get in there, but the rest is wide open. And yes, that means you don't always get to see every match you want to, because others got there first, but that is an unfortunate consequence to how the tournament runs.

I’ll be at the night session on Ashe wearing my Vollaix Kauai crew shirt tonight (8/30). I’ll have an extra 4 of my Vollaix Kauai shirts with me to give away (1 small, 1 med, 1 large, 1xl). If you see me and I have a shirt in your size, you can have it. If I don’t have your size, sorry, but I’ll have 4 more on Sunday afternoon when I go back.

again highly recommend the qualies as the tennis quality has no visible difference... you are talking about guys/gals ranked 100-200 ish.. first row seats on all the courts, or big name practice matches first row in armstrong/grandstand...

Have you been to anything but free qualies?
The outer courts get so mobbed that you can't see anything.
Standing there, 8 people deep.

It definitely got much worse after 4PM the day that I went. I'd imagine when Ashe night ticket holders come in after 5, it gets really bad.

If the court had someone with any kind of ranking or name there would be too many people to see over.

A similar match at 11AM and you'd be fine. The one I got surprisingly close to was Pouille vs Kohlshriebber (sp) 1st round. 2 quality players.

There were more people watching some un-ranked American on the next court over.

Your best bet at a good view and quality players is getting a grandstand seat early and plopping yourself there for as long as possible.

Sharapova has no coach and her box was empty. You could have moved up there.

I purchased men's semifinals, Loge row K for $250 post fees through SeatGeek, 1 hour before match start. I work in Manhattan, so I just asked my boss to leave and off I went.

Hopefully I can get similar deals next year
