Waiting for the transition? Only one guy can deliver you.

That's right. Forget about Tsitsipas for the moment, scratch Tiafoe, leave the Medvedev fanfic in the shelf for now (I know you have it), lay off the De Minaur bhang. Even put Shapovalov on hold. As of yet, these guys simply do not have close to the level needed to hang with the top guys when the latter are playing at their best. They will eventually win meaningful stuff, sure, but the day doesn't seem to be all that close. Kyrgios is for all practical purposes a hobby basketball player at this point.

No. If you're itching for that sweet transition that my good man @Meles promised you would get as a bonus when he sold you that encyclopedia set and the bottle of snake oil, then only one guy can save you. And that man is Alexander Zverev Jr. He's the only one who actually possesses the sum of skills and resources that together merge into a game that can hang with the best on tour.

Yes, he has developed a curious and persistent case of stage fright at the majors. But a mental block can be overcome, sometimes quickly once you manage to chip away at whatever maladaptive believes are holding it in place. A shortage of talent, however, or a deficit in the game's basic building blocks, is a much harder debility to overcome. Zverev has the game. He has that boundless and unyielding need for success which characterizes any great champion. So far, he has managed to translate that game into several masters crowns, and then a tour final trophy. With field marshal Lendl in his corner planning the next line of attack, it is only a matter of time before he translates this success into the majors.

So if you're waiting for the transition, it might be wise to come around to accepting the credo of #ABZ

T-pass (yes T-Pass I’m not even going to try to spell it right til he wins a slam) just made the AO SF and it took a monsterous version of Nadal to bounce him out... and your dissing him in favor of Captain Major Shrinkage? (“Major Shrinkage” for short /salutes)

Curious argument

The level I just saw from TPass was at least the same as any I’ve seen from Z

The bigger picture, brother, the bigger picture.

But Stefanos (whom I am not 'dissing') could very well be next in line (after Z), that much I'll happily grant.

He should feel a lot better about things after watching that Tsit show of a SF.

fair point.

If you think about it, Zverev played an infinitely better match against RAFA way back at the AO 2017 than Tsit did today. Though one could of course argue, with some merit, that that was a 'good' Rafa while this was a 'great' version.
What if he's just waiting for Nadal and Djokovic to really start sucking before making a move in the Slams.
yes, only peaking when he knows he'll win in order to keep the mental edge, true humbalito-style.

Rafa is serving lights out right now and getting off the court in record time for him. It's the biggest difference to me from 2017.

Somewhere in the middle. Current Rafi wins in straights probably, but I believe Zverev can avert bakery products.

A. Zverev is a guy who, at any point in any rally, can easily end it with a 300mph forehand OR backhand down the line. The only reason he doesn't do it is because he has a coach that wants him to play like a 6ft 6in David Ferrer.

As soon as he changes coaches he will be untouchable.

Tsitsipas looked dead in the water today, cement shoes, no footwork and no arm power. Prob body was drained due to the adrenalin from last two matches. Clearly not the same player. Nadal looks top form.

I will accept the credo of ABZ when he proves he can handle 7 (or even 6) best of 5 sets matches.

2nd set he served 88% 1st serves in and was serving his usual 197 km/hr speeds... still got broken. Nadal played amazing

3rd set tsitsipas was a broken man. Hard to watch

On the contrary, Zverev is an unsecure boy whose game is to serve big and then wait for a fault on the BH diagonal and Lendl is trying to change this. But it takes time. Lendl wants Alex to step into the court after his first serve for example, which he was not doing before.

And he also have the habit of melting down once he goes behind. His fighting spirit is not the greatest one.

best of 3 sets when the german excels, is different than the big 4 which are best of 5 sets where the german still sucks.
let see how of the year unfold for zverev jr.
