What rules? Recreational tennis? A ball rolls over while you’re about to toss your second serve, you hit the intrusive ball back and proceed with your second. Anything else is petty and not in good faith.

Technically you are right, but I have never not told someone "take 2" when that happens.

3.5 version of Nadal is a giveaway that this is a troll thread. TTPS fans will remember that loose reference.
TTPS claimed 3.5s hit harder than Nadal, which is patently absurd

A 3.5 version of Nadal could be someone who plays Nadal's game, scaled down to the 3.5 level (ie: nowhere near as good but still a passing resemblance)

That's the other possibility. A 3.5 Nadal could also be a rec player who takes 90 seconds in between serves, takes mysterious breaks when the opponent is gaining momentum, goes over the top with his celebrations, etc.

If you’re referring to me, I never claimed that I hit harder than Rafael Nadal. I rarely hit as hard as an average ATP rally ball.

You’re last sentence perfectly explains what I meant.

There was another poster here who went by the name @TimeToPlaySets (TTPS). He famously claimed some of his 3.5 opponents hit harder than Nadal.

That's a good gameplan. Certainly a lot more effective than trying to be a 3.5 Federer

Most of you on here are probably assholes IRL. I literally got yelled at for nicely asking somebody if they could hold onto the third ball. So, I yelled back at him, and somehow, I’m the *******.
I’ve never heard of that before and would laugh at the face of anyone who would try to pull that. You’re my opponent and expect me to acquiesce to you like that? The f*^# outta here with that BS. Maybe try playing a match without using the match balls before your opponent shows up and then asking him for accommodations. You might make a better impression and get more leeway with subjective calls like lets. Case in point: your posts about the situation give the vibe of a person who calls a let whenever they see a ball in their peripheral vision if the point isn’t going their way.

I called a let when I was getting a neutral rally ball to my backhand.

OP, as he was the only opponent to refuse holding the 3rd ball for you, that implies all the others comply. So you serve with first ball and rally the point out. Then he passes you pocketed ball, so you now have two. Then do you go to the back court where the first ball landed and pass it back to him?

Doesn't really work in reality, but well played sir.

I think he said he is ok if the opponent doesn’t want to hold the third ball. It was just that this time the other guy yelled at him for the request, which caused the start of OP’’s meltdown.

At the same time he did say no one else has refused but then added that most of the guys he has played in this league are aholes. So even if they comply with holding the ball or politely refuse, OP finds some other glaring faults and calls most of them as aholes.

Common thread here is OP.

I've had one guy tell me to "hold the third" but that just meant if the third is on my side, I should just leave it there somewhere on the fence or in my pocket. He just doesn't need me to throw the third ball over every time, he's good with two.

My bad. Not most. You wrote this:
“This is UTR flex league. I am finding a lot of assholes in these leagues”

You also wrote this was the only guy who refused to hold the 3rd ball. So even with the others who did comply you are referring to a lot of them disparagingly.

My point still stands.

You’re still wrong. And you twist words. You must be a politician.

When I played junior tournaments, they would often only give us 2 balls.

If you don't want the third ball, don't expect your opponent to hold it. That's really odd. If you threw the ball at the back fence after that discussion, that's ridiculous.

Same here. The players I play with will always carry that 3rd ball in pocket when I'm serving. I think it helps things move a bit faster. Thought this was the norm. Rec. player as well.
That is the norm when the receiving player already has the 3rd ball. No normal server who already has the 3 balls and then asks the receiver to catch and hold the 3rd ball, 99.99 of us just hold it or roll it to back fence.

I asked my opponent if he could hold onto the third ball, and he calmly said he was going to put it against the side fence.

Has anyone ever retired down 3-5 in the third set so the match goes unrated in a flex league?
How can guys in their late 40s still have this quitting attitude with a lame excuse to not give their opponent the respect of winning?
I noticed the scores of a match of two players I played a couple seasons ago.
we're talking one game. That's some real disrespect.

A guy walked out on me up match point after I refused to play on until he called my serve good.

People can retire when one game away from defeat if they held the 3rd ball in their pocket the whole match.

Well, he had to walk out on you because you refused to play on. You asked him to make a call that wasn't true in his mind so he would have to go against his good principles to make the call you wanted.

I only had one guy retire on me when I went up 4-2 in the 2nd after I won the first. There seems to be more quitters today than in the past.

I actually had a guy retire in the 3rd set 10 point tiebreaker after I won first point. He had won second set but I think I had worn him down, but I was surprised and took the win.

He was up 5-3 in the 2nd set and needed one more point. He could’ve finished the match.

I had a guy quit on me in a tournament because of the weather..... inside!
We were playing in a bubble, and it was dreadfully hot outside, and so humid inside that the floor was on the verge of being too slippery to play.
When we walked onto the court from the staging area, he commented/complained immediately about the humidity.
I was kinda focused and didn't really reply or agree, just thinking about getting ready for the warm-up and match.
He kept complaining during the warm-up, and I realized how much the humidity was irritating him, so I started to agree with him, and started to complain about it too, even tho it really wasn't bothering me that much.
Sure, it was hot and humid... but hey...whatever.
So then every change over if he didn't mention how brutal the conditions were, I did.
"Man, this sucks." "This is ridiculous." "I can't wait to get to the air conditioning." "I can't even hold my racquet." etc.
I won the 1st set maybe 6-3, won the 1st game of the 2nd set, and he quit. Too hot. Ok by me. Moving on.
