The composition of these strings tells the tale; it's not going to matter what gauge you're talking about.

As to an 18 gauge per se, you get more power, better bite and a quicker racquet, too. Assuming you won't break an 18 gauge, your trade-off is earlier tension loss.

My favorite is Wilson Hyperlast Spin 19 - http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageACWILSON-HYPER19.html (note that the picture shows regular Hyperlast, not the spin version).
I used to play with Head I.S12 few years back and that was my favorite. I don't use it anymore, however, as I moved to 4.5 ranking and use faster racquets.

My favorite so far is the Signum Megaforce 18ga.

Between the Gamma Synthetic Gut and the Prince Synthetic Gut, the Gamma plays softer. The Gamma Power Play is good for mains. Did a full Power Play one time, arrgh.

Prince Syn Gut Duraflex is stiff playing but yet does not last long at all. Try Wilson Stamina 18 gauge. It feels like a regular syn gut but lasts longer.
