My last accident was in 1981 or 1982.
Why can't people live close to work?
Let's say that houses run $600K where you work and you make $60K/year. Or maybe you want a decent school district for your kids but the city where you work has awful schools. Or your wife wants to live close to her family so that she can get help taking care of the kids. Or maybe the city where they work would make for a lousy place to live.
Or you work as a consultant and have to drive or fly to clients' offices.
There are obviously huge numbers of people that spend a lot of time commuting. They wouldn't if they had the choice whether to do so. So it's pretty obvious that there are some rather extreme pressures out there to do so.
I have a 20 minute commute but used to have 40 minute commutes. During that commute, I plan my day, work on problems in my head, enjoy some music or keep up on the news. I have a coworker that has a 40 minute commute. He moved a year ago from a five minute commute because his kids weren't getting a very good education where he was living and a very good district at a price that he could afford was 40 minutes away. He buys college course type materials that he listens to on the way to and from work.
the thing was i graduated from the #1 school in the tri-state region LOL so if i were to have kids... i'd love to send them to the same school =]
so i dunno... lol... when will i ever have kids? i'd not mind getting married immediately out of college but the thing is who cares about the job... money is only a number... if im desperate i can always print my own money
