Ok so i'm curious what people think is more important. Going deep in major tournaments or more titles.
So i'm comparing 2 female players on the tour. One born in 1993 the other 1994.
Elina Svitolina and Sloane Stephens.

So you got Sloane who's reached a career high of world number 11 and reached the Aus Open Semis and Wimbledon Quarter finals in 2013 as well as a 4R finish at the US Open in 2013 and three 4R finishes at the French. Sloane also has reached semi finals and quarter finals at premier mandatory and premier 5

And Svitolina who's at a career high world number 19. She's never gotten past the 3R at a slam but has 3 titles to her name. Svitolina has reached a QF at a premier event, a quarterfinal and semifinal of 2 Premier 5 events

Svitolina has a W/L record of 171-103
Stephens has a W/L record of 174-127
Sloane should have the larger advantage as she's over a year older.

Sloane only has 2 top 10 wins but they were over Sharapova and of course Serena at a slam.
Svitolina has 3 top 10 wins including Kvitova.

So i'm sure many would probably pick Sloane but say they were to retire right now what would you rather. Some smaller titles or some deep runs at tournaments but never reaching a tour final let alone winning won?

Also I should add that it's not like Sloane doesn't enter small tournaments and only goes for big ones. She was the top seed in Strasbourg in 2014 but lost in the first round, played Internationals in Auckland, Hobart, Acapulco and Strasbourg in 2015 and didn't go too far

La crème de la crème. Winning titles. Sloane hasn't reached a final of any WTA tournament. Not one. While svitolina has 3 titles. Plus sloanes win percentage is way to poor at that age. Nearly more losses than wins.

Winning a title (the tier is irrelevant) is special for any player, especillay for a young woman/man at the beginning of his/her career.
Have you seen Federer at Istanbul? We're talking about a man with 85 titles (17 slams etc, we know the number). Some MS1000 celebrations were more demure.

I think depends on the importance of the three titles won by Svetolina .
They seem sketchy .
If they were Master1000 -style: Svetolina >>> Stephens
If you were Master500 -style: Svetolina > Stephens

Instead Svetolina < Stephens .

Stephens seems to have made a career in the Majors and more consistent in Master1000 - style ( Indian Wells & Miami ) .
