What Federer could accomplish in 2007

Fed could achieve some amazing things next year...

4 years in a row #1

5 years Wimbledon champion in a row tieing Borg

4 years US Open Champion in a row

3rd AO in 4 years, 2nd/row

Improve his consecutive finals streak (more than 22 wins in a row??)

Break Lendl's record of #weeks consecutively ranked #1

Possible Grand Slam

Career Slam with French Open win

4 years/row winning US & Wimbledon

Possibly win all of Master Series tournaments in career

If anyone can think of other notable achievements, streaks etc feel free to post them. I would be interested in knowing what his current win streak in finals is (and for sure what his old one was--22/row?)

Current final streak is only 5, he lost in Cincy...

number of consecurtive match wins... he's now at 29 I think... still far from 46 of Vilas but if he wins doha and AO, He wil be at 41....

well $$, numerical value, continues to go up...so he'll probably make more $$ next year with the same or little less tournament wins than this year

his old streak was the 24 tournament finals win streak which got snapped by nalbandian at the 2005 tmc shanghai final, so currently he is going from....wimbledon, toronto, us open, tokyo, basel, tmc shanghai...

so his current 29 match win streak includes 6 straight tournament final wins

so for the sake of this thread, federer can potentially win all 4 grand slams in the calendar year, most notably giving him 13 slams (omg that is such a scary thought)....a 5 time wimbledon champ, 4 time wimbledon champ...tying borg, and no one has won 4 straight us opens...

btw its not lendl's consecutive weeks at #1, its connors' 160 consecutive weeks at #1, which he will break because he's already guaranteed it after ...beating roddick or ljubicic at the tmc this year...

he is 99.99999999% likely to hold the #1 spot for the entire 2007 calendar year, thus he will have held the #1 ranking for every week in 2005, 2006, and 2007

is he wins like 10 tournaments in 2007, including all the slams..he'll have 13 slams, and like 55 titles....making the 2008 AO the place he could tie pete sampras' record..then he might purposely not win RG and break sampras' record at wimbledon...or beat rafa at RG in 2008 to break sampras' recrod?

he can win every single masters tournament...but proper scheduling is required and more priority on the slams of course
^actually he could win every tournament he enters...:)

of course this is all speculation :)

He might have to take less priority for masters series and go for slams, especially the French where he hasn't won so far.

I am a huge Federer fan, just for the way he plays, and I hope he completes a Grand Slam in 2007, but I just get a feeling he won't dominate/win as much as he has done in 2006.

I think he'll win 2 Slams in 2007, the AO & FO, yes with a loss at Wimbledon (like all greats have done in the past).

That would still be an awesome year establishing him as the GOAT thanks to the FO win and the 4 slams in the row! Not to mention a record 8 slam finals in the row, assuming he doesn't get to Wimbledon final. :)

So anyway, even if your "conservative" prediction comes true that would still make so much history.

Still pretty hard to imagine him not winning at least one of the two grand slams he has more success in the last few years.... Wimby and USO....

i think fed will grab 2 slams next year, rafa will 3peat the FO, and roddick will take either the USO or AO. QUOTE ME.

i think he will have the 4 grand slams in mind, the masters and specially the clay masters and the fench open

He wil probably go through the entire year (2007) without losing a single game. In 2008, he will do the same but not lose a single point. In 2009, he will end all his points with clean winners.

Thanks for the correction on the Connors win streak and finals win streak (24 not 22). I just wrote everything off the top of my head. 24 finals wins in a row is such an unbelievable streak, one of the most impressive things Ive ever seen in sports.

Personally Im really hoping Fed can win the Slam in '07, or at least the French and Wimbledon which would be amazing. 4 US Opens in a row would be really nice also!

he can do what he could have done this year if it had not been for nadal, he could win a grandslam, which would be 6 slams in a row since this years wimbledon. that would put him over laver and sampras for sure. im curious if he can continue this, he seems to get better every year in a different part of the game.

I hope he does better in '07 but am not holding my breath on the FO. Sorry ********* ( I think he's great as well ), but I don't think he will threaten Fed the way he did this year. :)

Yes, and "Rafa's Best Friend"? You're really not, of course, and your posts certainly don't advance his game in any way.

24 consecutive finals wins doubled the previous record of like 12 by mcenroe i think...or lendl or borg...

but i think, something else gone unnoticed, was that through 2005 and all of 2006 until wimbledon, rafael nadal won like 12 or 13, 14, straight finals....so he eclipsed the previous record, but fell short of federer's

12,13, 14 because i'm not sure which it is...

well although he didnt win the french, if he wins all 4 slams in 2007, then he will have won 6 straight slams...

jeez....its like he gave himself a 2nd chance at winning 6 straight slams!

no joke there sypl....its very much possible...set aside losing to murray, and overcome nadal, even on clay, and not scheduling too many tourneys, and its very possible federer can go like 70-0 or whatever...

I think that Fed probably has #1 in the bag next year, barring injury and boredom. Even if he plays 75% as well as he did this year, he'll accumulate enough points to take it. Nadal and Roddick are likely the only two with enough consistency to come close to threatening him, but I just don't see either of them doing it.

Nothing against Fed, but I would love to see him get beaten by Roddick or someone else in a slam final on a non-clay surface. I want to stop having that inevitable feeling that Roger already has everything in the bag.

The best thing that could happen for mens tennis is Roger to win the Grand Slam next year. People are waiting for an historic accomplishment like that and it what the game of tennis needs. Also they need to see Nadal lose on clay, his dominance on clay is pretty much boring everyone to sleep.

Yeah, 2007 is Federer's year. If he doesn't do the Grand Slam next year, then at the very least, he'll try to focus on winning Roland Garros. If he doesn't accomplish either by 2008, he probably never will. That said, he'd probably still have 15 by then without either of those.
